it also would be nice for an argonian build, a reason to have breath underwater skill
the argonian water breathing skill is pretty useless as there is a dragonpriest mask that lets you breath underwater

is it given to you when you start the game? nope, so it's not useless

(well it is now because there's not much to find underwater, but it would be nice if there were monsters and more loot, right now both the skill and the mask are useless)

Sea monsters and more underwater quests would be perfect, especially with the new underwater effects beings so amazing. That giant crab thing from the tech demo would be great, but I'd really like to see some Cthulhu-esque giant thing with tentacles. Here's hoping they add some underwater DLC.

underwater quest, creatures and combat, as DLC?

should have already been in the game.

and, yet, it was one of the aspects that amazed me and drew me in with morrowind.

i loved exploring the underwater areas and finding those hidden treasures and additional passageways.

look what we have now: people actually stating that it's ok to not have underwater combat and loving the more realistic, yet, worthless gameplay mechanic, underwater graphics.

instead, of adding new enemy types and advancing underwater combat, we get.......

Agreed but if I remember there are very few items underwater in skyrim and there is no compelling need to have the odd dive to see if anything interestung lurked in the depths - so different from morrowind. A shame really - not too bothered by combat would be nice but really miss the extra dimension that uw exploration adds.

I don't really mind underwater combat either way. Yeah, it makes me stop and scratch my head whenever your character swings a sword underwater without massive resistance (Though, I would think if you angled it just right you could get some nice hydrodynamics with the blade's edge. I dunno.), but I also scratch my head when my character swims in heavy armor, or carries 300 pounds of stuff on him (Time Lord pockets?). I'm not really bothered with underwater combat as a gameplay mechanic, and I'm not really bothered that it's not there anymore. I could take it or leave it.

However, since Skyrim already lacks underwater combat, I kind of dig the idea of throwing in deadly sea monsters and not being able to fight them until you get back to land (Or if you're on a monster hunting ship. That would be pretty sweet). It would add an element of suspense when going for a swim. The only downside is that a lot of people probably wouldn't like that feeling of helplessness and it would discourage them from going into the water, and encourage them to whine more about bringing back underwater combat. Even if they did bring back underwater combat, it could still be pretty suspenseful. You can't see very clearly, and you'd never know when a big nasty something could pop up right in front of you.

I also think Argonians should have some kind of underwater attack, whether they have full-fledged underwater combat or not.

I'm reviving this thread as hope is not lost for those who want sea creatures. In a recent Joystick interview Todd said there were things he wanted to expand on like the addition of more sea creatures.

I would love if we could have some whales in the ocean at least. Bringing underwater combat (at least for knives) would be nice too.

I am all for sea monsters...if I can fight in the water on some level. Either that or have them be like the Giant Mudcrab in the Gamejam and attack you by the shore or on a small island or something

Since Skyrim has sabre cats & mammoths that are from the Ice Age, maybe have some underwater animals from the same time period? Megalodon comes to mind, the ancient ancestor of the Great White, which is about the size of a bus.

I can't post links, but there is a size comparison on Wikipedia.

The green size is our modern day great white, purple is the whale shark, and red & gray represent the smallest and largest guesses of the size of Megalodon, respectively.

Giant Mudcrab. It was the only "sea creature" that was big and featured in the GameJam.

You could stab underwater pretty well. Even with a mace. ultra sharp weapons (ebony sword for instance) would be able to slash through water almost as if it was air.
