Skyrim... You scare me...

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:22 am

Not one game i can think of has made me jump like a frightened little girl more than this game... Honestly.

So there i am, minding my own business... Wanderin around in The Reach, picking juniper berries on my way to find some blade for someone... I always keep an eye out for hostile animals and enemies... But i finally find a pathway up a mountain i need to cross, i get excited, drop my guard, turn the corner, and... GROWL!!! A massive sabre cat jumps out of nowhere and pounces on my horse and i...

Needless to say, i did not see, nor hear this ravenous beast. And let me tell you, it scared the ever-loving 5hite out of me. I jumped like the people in the paranormal activity ads. Im not kidding. And this is not the first time either...

Now, Im pretty much not scared of anything... I dont usually jump at anything, much less a video game... There have been games that were scary/errie, like the silent hill franchise or the freaky mannequins im condemned (especially the scene when you turn around and there at like 7 lined up behind you out of nowhere, then turn again, and theyre in front of you... Then again, and again... Freakyyy yet awesome) but no game made me jump this [censored] much...

Anyone else have this happen? What are your stories?

A lot of times I've been wandering around, and get pounced from behind by a sabre cat, or worse, a snowy sabre cat. I never hear them. Wolves tend to be noisy, and I can hear them growling. But not the cats.

Not really a moment when I got scared, I mean, a couple times I jumped out of my seat to find myself face to face with a giant, or, just get hit by a giant out of nowhere, but my biggest [censored] moment: wandering along, kill a snowy sabre cat, then a spriggan right after that. after HER comes an ice wraith, as i prepare my attack towards it, i see dragon swooping down..... that was when i sank back in my chair watching my "killcam", if you will, saying [censored] ................

These ninja Sabre cats bring back memories from Red Dead. Only those would kill your horse in 1 hit, and you in maybe 2-3 hits.
I get scared of them too. Just last night I was climbing a hill, at night, wondering what's around the corner. And from my left(outside of my FOV) jumps a Sabre cat! I half-jumped out of my seat, my bow was not drawn and the cat was up close and personal.
My roommate was basically laughing at me while I was soooo stressed to get some distance from the cat.

Worst moments for me is wondering around at night and walking right into a bear cave or dragons swooping down on me. I have had two ancient dragons swoop down on me at once while in the middle of a forsworn camp that was pretty fun and crazy

You can really have two dragons attack at one? I see it on videos, but i always thought it was like console commands or something... I actually cant wait to fight two at once.

I've been playing Morrowind and it's worse to me than Skyrim. I turned around and my summoned ghost scared the crap out of me. Most of the atmosphere is due to the levels being terrible in Morrowind where everything sounds very loud even from a distance. This is probably due to mods more than vanilla gameplay. Skyrim hasn't really made me jump, or taken me by surprise as much, despite playing it for much longer.

Nothing will beat Red Dead Redemption and the freaking cougars. Their freaking howling screech was terrifying.

The only thing that's kinda freaked me out in this game is walking through my house in Riften and seeing a mannequin standing in front of the chair on the opposite side of the room it's meant to be. My instant reaction was to draw my sword, thinking it was an enemy in my own house

Hm, so far the scariest thing I have noticed was a quick walk through my basemant & noticed a kid I had killed was standing up alive.

Luckily it only lasted for a second, a quick 1, 2 arrow to the head to finish off zombie kid.

Doom 3 while I was on... Skooma.. Would get me to jump at times. They really knew how to set up big moments in that one. Sabre cats are sneaky little bastards in skyrim though. But the WTF moment I had in skyrim I was exploring a Forrest and two spiders dropped down from the trees right in front of me..

This is also quite freaky. And i usually dislike spiders in rpgs... But not in skyrim for some reason.

Bethesda is pretty good at scaring people. Especially in Fallout. I HATE feral ghouls, they make those creepy growling sounds and you think it's coming from a different room when suddenly you turn around and see one pounce on you, just like sabrecats. In Skyrim, ice wraiths can be annoying as well. I'm just walking through a blizzard when suddenly i hear the hiss of an ice wraith as it hits me. Worse yet, they literally spawn out of thin air.

Yeah! I remember the feral ghouls. You are so right my friend. They always sounded like they werent as nearby as they truly were.

In blizzards, ice wraiths are pretty hard to see. Plus hard to hit with arrows unless theyre already smackin you around. Lol.
