Special dialouge for low intelligence characters

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:48 pm

Retrieved from "http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Low_intelligence_character:

When the Player Character in Fallout and Fallout 2 has less than 4 Intelligence, the biggest change in gameplay is undoubtedly the dialogue. Upon reaching Shady Sands, the villagers pity you, and Aradesh just shrugs you off. The best you can speak is in half-word sentences or gibberish.

The real downside, though, is that you have no chance to do about 90% of the side quests. No one will talk to you or even give the time of day (Even though you have it on your PipBoy. Shame you can't even read it.)

Quotes:
1. I don't care if you were dropped on your head as a kid. No guns in the city limits. - NCR Gate Guard.
2. Glug glug glug glug glug glug! - the Vault Dweller
3. *Snfff* You big meenie... *snff*... me go sumplace 'n have partee wiff clowns... *snfff*... and ice cream... and kake... and me no invit meen peuple like YOU! - the Chosen One

Yeah, and there should be nerdy options if your intelligence is 8 or higher.

i think there should be good/fun options for all types of character builds. i hope FONV implements great things for regardless if your charisma is high or low. then again, if you have low charisma and you are not allowed to do some side quests it will encourage more play throughs picking different stats to obtain different things in the game.

Being locked out of Quests because you are dumb is one thing I would not like. Unless I was given other quests that only a dumb person would be given (like they are a little dangerous for my own good, but my character can not figure that out and goes off blissfully to possible destruction)

Now, as for during the quests, I would like to see different dialog choices based on Intelligence, rather lack of same. Sure, some quests could fail because my PC is an idiot, but I would like to be able to work out most, if not all, available quests based on my skills and attributes, not to have a partial game because of it.

Well, I could do a partial game if there were quests that only low intelligence will get to offset what a low intelligence would not be offered. That would give a different play experience.

I don't think that your Itelligence should hinder your ability to complete quests but I would like people to treat you somewhat differently due to your Itelligence.

I'm all for an Idiot Savant perk, only available to people with an Intelligence of 1-2.

Very Low Intelligence should make people mock you for your stupidity and you'd talk funny to them and not understand complicated. But you shouldn't be blocked out from any quests. Maybe you get one or two mini-quests if you are stupid.

The same should go, I think, for very High Intelligence - You'd know pretty much everything and speak in a very educated way. People still could mock you, but they will call you stuff like "egghead" and similar instead.

You could have a Ted Strayer style character with limited dialogue...
who only says things like "chill dude" or "whoa dude" .

I would *love* for low intelligence dialogue to come back. However, if it was to come back, I'd like it if it weren't just for the "lulz". In the previous games, you really got dialogue that was basically "onga bonga, grrunk herrp derrrp". It'd be cool if there could be dialogue that was... well, just dumber than usual but not to the point where you're a caveman.

I don't mind being locked out of quests and stuff like that. I'd love if your character build defined what quests you get in the game. So a really smart guy could get the quests needing intelligent people, whereas a dumb brute could get quests that were about smashing people in the head. Doubt that's gonna happen though.

And I do doubt that the dumb dialogue will be making a comeback, but... maybe, just maybe. It was planned to be in Van Buren, so we'll see.

Why else would you take low intelligence other than the hilarity?

Bad Guy: "The road ends here for you, Courier!"
The Courier: "Durrr...I just madda poopie...in mah pants!"
"..."
Minion: "Boss...why don't we just...throw a rubber duck at him?"
The Courier: "Ducky! Duckyduckyducky!"

I never did a Low INT playthrough on FO 2 but I know on Fallout 3 I expected way more dialogue options, especially since it's just text as our characters don't speak. I'm with CCNA and the others though, cutting off quests because of our INT gives us little reason to go that route.

I think I would rather that various attributes have exclusive side quests. So having low intelligence locks you out of some quests, but having low strength or charisma locks you out of others. I don't think giving special quests to low stats makes sense - low stats, in general, should be penalized from a gameplay perspective, not rewarded.

That said, I think special or more limited dialogue for low-intelligence characters could work, and add flavor to the game. But if you're going to do it for intelligence, you should also add in options for other stats - like strength-only dialogue or luck-only dialogue. Not sure how that would work, though.

Would be nice to see some Idiocracy type dialogue for a person with high intelligence then.

Well I know even if it were annoying as hell. I am reminded of the wacky antics of KOTOR 1. Anyone actually doing the repairs on the evil android the slow way would be laughing hysterically much of the game after meeting it.

As for the rest of you stupid MEATBAGS, GO PLAY THAT GAME ! lol

Why would low intelligence lock you out of quests? I would imagine that lots of people in the fallout universe would jump at the chance of taking advantage of some dum stranger. Not giving you a proper reward for the job on the other hand, that should be a given.

I really, really hope so. There were some absolutely epic moments because of choosing low dialogue (like the conversation you can have with Torr Buckner--
Spoiler
if your intelligence is low enough you guys understand each other!

The player and his follower are tasked with finding the Govenor's daughter Elizabeth who was taken by slavers and need to escort her home:

*RATATATATATA---BOOM-CRASH *people screams and general splattering of heads*

Elizabeth: My heroes! You've come to rescue me?!
Player: *looks blankly for a second*
Elizabeth: Hello?
Player: STOOPID HUMAN, YOO COME WITH US NOW!
Player: *puts Elizabeth in a smelly sack and carries her back to dad*

I guess that could work... Maybe...

:P

Yeah, stupid people can repair atomic power plant just as intelligent one too. Yeah! And dump people make good diplomaths too! And dump people understand tasks perfectly as intelligent one! So there is no point that low intelligence would not get all quests.
