Star Wars references in NV

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:15 am

seeing a slave at the NCR camp in a metal bikin and then having a quest where your supposed to hide some droids, and if you have enough of a speech check, when the NCR comes to look for them you can say, These Are Not The Droids Your Looking For.... and it will check and they say it back to you, then you say Move Along. and you finish the quest, and you do it for an elderly man who then hands you a plasma pistol saying "I was going to give this to my son when he was old enough, But he was killed. Here take it." not to much but still very star wars.

I find myself oddly offended at this conversation.

Don't worry too much - after the introduction of the Gungans, nobody really wants to see dead Ewoks anymore.

At some point in the main storyline, a main character will engage the "I am your father" speech.

You do know that everytime someone says lightsaber that Lucas charges $500? So because I just said lightsaber, that's $500... Oh crap! I said lightsaber twice, now Bethesda owes him a grand just from me alone.......!

What, you mean FO3 wasn't one huge Star Wars reference? "Lone Wanderer...I'm your Father. Come with me to the Purifier Side..." Rebellion of Steel's Elder Ackbar recruiting you to stop the evil Darth Eden. Fawkes the Mutant Wookie. The Mos Paradise "hive of scum and villainy." :P

lol Nice.

I would like to see, far off in the distance, Darth Vader and Luke fighting each other with lightsabers. When you try to approach them, they look at you and then run away extremely fast. They end up disappearing :D

I'd like to see Apollo Creed, an aligator, and Abraham Lincoln in a cloud waving at me! To hell with Star Trek and Star Wars (love them both), lets get some Adam Sandler on!

Were are the Star Trek references?? I like some episodes but it seems that any references have gone over my head. (I do like 50's sci fi so the huge reference to "Them!" gave me a laugh)

A crashed (junked), and partially buried Land Speeder or POD racer, that or, a Sarlacc ... that's about it

(... but on the extreme end... a partially buried (? way or more) Jawa Sandcrawler (possibly enter-able)

I never liked the classic Star Trek but the 2009 movie made me really enjoy it because I had pretty much no knowlege of the series before that. I hope it has alot of movie references in NV not just Star Wars and Star Trek.

There is a very ~very on topic ironic parallel there somewhere

Some wouldn't hurt, but IMO its a bad idea to put so many that their presence becomes noticeably obvious; where one realizes that they don't get it, but can't miss the fact that it means something.

I knew about the series but I didn't know anything about it like the plots and things.

Yeah it would be good to have some. Fallout 3 had quite a range of references and inspirations.

Hopefully NV will have a nice range of cultural references too.

Star Trek and Fallout?

Sorry but the image of a shiny-happy futuristic society where money and hardship are replaced by universal unity and the abolition of all human vices just doesn't fit the image in my mind of a destroyed human society post nuclear war in which people are eating eachother and mutating into horrific forms...

I can't think of a better dicotomy actually, its almost like two completely different portrayals of the future. I love Star Trek and Fallout both - for Very different reasons.

I pray to GOD that no one listens to this and that we get None, Zero, Ziltch, Nata, No Star Trek references of Any kind in New Vegas!

Well, we've already had Star Trek references in Fallout, so you're too late!

I think a lightsaber would be going too far. However it would be cool to have references.

Perhaps once in the game with certain skills or perks or traits (perhaps Wacky Wasteland?) you could get a speech option that goes something along the lines of "[Mind Trick] You (don't) want to __________".

As long as it has to do with Ewoks: The Battle for Endor... I'm all for it. Just nothing related to those old movies... those aren't the movies we're looking for.

Was sick of the Star Trek references in the previous games, because I hate Star Trek. But I have nothing against people who like it.

How about some Star Wars reference? I don't mean a Darth Vader costume, but if you can be your own type of Sith Lord with a lightsaber and force perks?

I'd like to see voice actor appearances by the ST characters who played Worf, Odo and that Jem Hadar Warrior...

Love it or hate it ST in Fallout is here to stay... ;)

Actually you are going to get your wish - Michael Dorn IS the actor who played Worf, and Renee A. is the actor who played Odo - both prominent voice actors in New Vegas! (I can't wait to see Renee play as Mr. House!).

In a neat way, alot of trekkies getting involved in NV - but I maintain that too many ST references in NV would seem out of place. We're going to get ST flavor with Michael and Renee voice acting as it is - I wonder if House will sound so much like Odo that I begin to expect him to shape shift and slide under the door.

@EwokLord - lol! Nothing personal! I just like shooting small furry objects in video games, and I'm not confident there will be enough tribbles to fill my quota!

LOL yeah, and the guy voicing Vegas Vic also played a Jem Hedar Warrior in ST:DS9, IIRC... :)

Ewoks as shotgun food!

So... the question is, how close do Ewoks resemble a tribe of mutant raccoons?

The ZingWei Shock Sword (spelling) in the Fallout 3 Anchorage DLC is the closest we can get to a light saber. Maybe that's for the best, though laser guns are a reality in the Fallout world.

The beam could be controlled like a pilot light, where you can lower or raise the amount of energy, increasing the size of the saber of light.
