steam midnight unlock

Post » Fri Mar 04, 2011 2:46 pm

The store pages had the wrong times listed.

They should be fixed now.

Thanks, and to confirm Steam (Euro zone) is showing 1am ish (BST) on Friday for me :)

To confirm what whiterabbit said, Steam just changed it's unlock to 16 hours...at least with my client.

The store pages had the wrong times listed.

They should be fixed now.

Yeah, the store page is showing the right time for me now, like Yasgur said.

Thanks, Jason.

Oh great stuff, love paying 2x the price so the game can not be released at a reasonable time...

Companies wonder why people pirate so often

I feel one of those 24 hour flu thingies coming on. I doubt I'll make it into work tomorrow ;-)

Awesome, thanks Jason!

Finally our long wait is coming to an end. :) I have the bills paid, the bosses happy with output, the wifes art studio done, computer upgrades for FNV done - only thing left to do is finish the work day and head off to Vegas!

For us easterners, at least I can play with the GECK and the BSA archives prior to steam's unlock. :)

Will the GECK actually be open to us before the game is? I was under the impression we couldn't access it either until Steam unlocked the game.

Steam says i have 15 hours until it is unlocked, and im in central time, so it should be 2 am for me. (if Steam does not screw up the unlock times)

So essentially paying customers are given a False date for months - People on steam who are excited about your game decide to take measures to be able to play this game at it's nominated release date and within the last few hours of people waiting you extend it by 3 days?

If so - I would really like an explanation.
Because right now you are a complete disappointment to me I had trusted a date that was given and I fully expected to play it by said date. This is what leads people to stop caring about privacy issues and street release dates. Why should we adhere to conditions if you are so willing to break them or change the rules at a moments notice. I know you have been working long and hard for this game but right now it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth knowing there is no viable or reasonable excuse for not releasing this game at said date. There has been no press releases or apologies given. You and every employee at Bethesda should hang your head in shame at not even being able to show your customers who pre-ordered there by trusting in you enough to give you money for something not yet even released what you had promised them.

Just because you can get away with it - and it "svcks to be us" doesn't mean you can continue to evoke the ire of your paying fans.
But why would you read this complaint and why would you care you have the money today - what happens later is only a concern later right?

I see rumors flying around that PC version has been delayed for 3 more days, can anyone confirm this? :bonk:

The European, South African and Australian release is in 3 and a bit days, as it always has been. Steam may have been wrongly showing the American Continent release time today for Europe etc. (that's how I've read it anyway).

No. Nothing was delayed.

The problem is Steam. They have listed the wrong unlock date and time for everyone until today. They just today fixed it to show the correct date and time for your region.

For North and South America the release date is the 19th. For everyone else it is the 22nd. It HAS BEEN THAT WAY FOR MONTHS.

So again, nothing has been delayed. If it is telling you that it will take 3 more days to unlock, it was always going to take 3 more days to unlock. Nothing changed. Steam and Valve just can't tell time.

I don't think you'll be able to do that--some game files are encrypted until unlock, so even if you can download and/or run the new GECK prior to release, I don't think you'll be able to open the game files in it.

Ah okay then, still 2 am tuesday for me then. I was just asking because in multiple threads, I saw posts from people whining about it being extended 3 more days. :foodndrink:

Yet once again if you are outside America you are a 2nd class person who gets nothing even though you buy the digital copy and all it takes is someone clicking an option and Steam activating it.

How hard is it to activate all digital copies at the same time instead of leaving it until the physical copies hit the shelves? It isn't a MMO game so being able to play a couple days earlier is not going to give us an advantage some how?

I pre-ordered and have pre-loaded the game so as not to help overload the Steam servers but since I am an Australian I have to wait a further 3 days just because someone decided that it would be better that way.

I agree that it is not fair. It is simply a hold over from the days of physical products and market and region lock outs for trade benefit to companies. I long for the day when digital releases are at the same time for everyone in the world and region codes no longer exist for media.

But if your digital copy was allowed to be unlocked early, that would give Steam a hugely unfair advantage over the brick and mortar shops. And I say this as a customer in Europe that has pre-ordered the CE in store, so I am having to wait until Friday to play as well.

I agree. Americans once again prove to be superior human beings. Don't let it make you sad though!!! Europeans get it three days later but in exchange they pay 25 percent more for the game :) I'm not sure about Australia. We pay 50 Euros which is a *BIT* more expensive...

And how does that affect a bricks and mortar store that you weren't buying from anyway? Steam has a big advantage over physical copies in that you can reload your games if you suffer a hard drive failure easily. If you lose your DVD you are out of luck and have to borrow a DVD from a friend to reinstall that way or buy the game again.

Yeah. FO:NV is US$89.95 on Steam at the moment for Australians while the US customers are only paying US$49.99. And since the Aussie dollar is so strong and at parity with the US we are paying 80% more for the same game.

So its pretty crappy that im going to the midnight launch and I still have to wait 3 hours to play the game I have in my hand!

Totally defeats the whole purpose of midnight release. Steam should be smart enough to tell the difference between a retail copy and a digital copy and behave accordingly. :brokencomputer:

I know a lot of you like Steam, but what if something happened to the internet where we could never log back on what would we do then? We would have a bunch of games that we could never play again sitting on our hard drives. I'm probably off topic but that thought just came to me.
