Sure, I can help you out. Thank God Valve is so good at game development, because they svck at time keeping. People in Australia using Steam are seeing a countdown clock on the store page showing only 4 hours to go, even though their version shouldn't unlock until 12 AM on the 22nd, while those of us in the US, where it is supposed to unlock at midnight tonight, are all showing different times until the unlock, but none of those times are midnight.

If Valve follows previous behavior, they will wait until the Steampowered forums for Fallout are full of threads and posts about people nervously pulling their hair out as midnight approaches and the clock is still showing unlock at noon or late the next day. This will continue until 1-2 hours before midnight, when Valve employees will seemingly notice this for the first time, and set the countdown clock to show the time it should have shown all along.

Valve will then proceed to muddle up all time measurements on the next major release on Steam, putting everyone through needless worrying and speculation all over again.

Maybe we should just mail Valve a truckload of watches and calendars or something. Seems they need them for their releases as well.

Interesting - maybe the Aussies are going to get to Vegas first after all :)

One would think that the coordination of unlock times for the game was well-thought-out in advance, and Bethesda, Obsidian and Steam would be watching today. If it is indeed an error, it will likely be fixed within that 4 hours now that we are in morning business hours on the east coast and Bethesda employees are all over the forums and such as we speak. I also expected a call from Bethesda to Steam to confirm the unlock times so that the midnight release parties will go off as planned without mass riots.

I for one am in the 3AM crowd, so I'll have the game for almost 3 hours before I can play it. That made up my mind for me, I'll crack into the GECK, decompress the BSAs and get under the hood while I'm waiting. There is much the modders are excited about to learn!

I too am in the 3AM crowd. That's cool. But the game should be unlocking for everyone in the Western Hemisphere of planet Earth in 14 hours. For some that will be midnight, for others a different time. But, yeah, hopefully someone from Bethesda is checking with Valve to make sure that unlock is happening on schedule.

Yeah, he said that nearly five days ago now, but the Steam clock countdowns haven't been updated to show that he is correct. That is what is concerning people. We trust Gstaff, but Steam is still saying all us North American people are still going to have to wait 27 hours for unlock, instead of the 14 hours it should be saying at his point.

I guess we are just looking for someone at Bethesda to go slap them upside the head and say, "update the timer, you bunch of clock illiterates"!

And I agree with Trekkie107. This is purely digital. I don't really mind waiting 3 hours past my midnight instead of 13, but this is the 21st century and we are all instantly connected around the world. Why can't Steam unlock games at the stroke of midnight in each unique time zone?

Yeah I definately agree with everything you said ESPECIALLY your last statement, this is the 21st century and we are all instantly connected around the world. Why can't Steam unlock games at the stroke of midnight in each unique time zone? I couldn't have said it better myself, thats why I copied you haha.

I am one of those Australians, for ages now Steam has been telling me the game will unlock on the 19th, 4am which considering we pay near twice as much as Americans I would hope this is accurate and I get to play since I am staying up for this :D despite knowing I'll probably get screwed lol

I'm glad they got this problem settled it doesn't matter for me since I'm getting it for the 360 but the PC crowd should be treated equally and I'm glad they are. 3 Am east coast time isn't bad for someone with a PC because they most likely will be in bed.

I like that, flood Valve with watches and calenders. LMFAO. I can just see it.

Another 360 user here. I hope the best for you PC users though.

It could be worse, I paid 89.95USD for this game with it telling me for months it'll be unlocked at 4am (2 hours) and in-spite of this since I am not American I will most likely have a representative come to my home, spread my legs and proceed to kick me over and over again in an unpleasant location and be told my near double cost steam version won't be unlocked for literally no reason untill the 22nd

I expect to get the game on Wednesday (it was shipped today), so this thread isn't really of relevance to me. I just wanted to stop by and inform you that I wish I could bathe in the tears of the people who whine about not being able to unlock it until 3 AM. :stare:

Just checked Steam (I'm from EU) - and surprisingly there is told that FONV will be available after 2 hours - And release date is told to be today (October 18th, 2010).
Now - can I trust that if I pay, I really get FONV today ? Kind of inviting to chancel my current pre-order which is not yet posted (And will arrive earliest Friday) and Buy it through steam.

So is Steam trustworthy ?

I know it is expected to be released 22th in EU . That was why I was so surprised - but It is kind of strange that they have that kind of information up there ....
Kind of weird to be able to buy with wrong release information. The information is present in Check out page - when they already know the country

Im East coast Time and its 1120am here

My Steam Client Store Page says it Unlocks in 1 Day 14 Hours.
Oddly, it said that yesterday as well.
Ive never had a issue with STEAM though in the past, so I see no reason this would be any different. If they are saying Midnight Pacific Time, it will be.

Steam has sometimes earlier messed up what country belongs to what region .... This is confusing ,,,,

It is so strange that there is told to be out 18th ...
