Storm Call -_-

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 3:34 am

Storm Call is probably the worst shout ever. I was in a little settlement where the natives were rather friendly to me and one even wanted to come with me. Two dragons came and started attacking everybody and i felt like i owed them so I tried saving them by using storm call. It was the second level shout at the time. So the storm comes and starts killing EVERYBODY EXCEPT THE TWO DRAGONS! I literally destroyed the settlement and the two dragons were left unharmed.

Anybody else hate it?

I love it.

I could understand you hating this thing if you used it for the first time not knowing what exactly it did, but if you knew it was a huge AOE thing, you should have known not to cast it in the middle of a town.

So... don't use it in a populated area? It's extremely effective when it hits the enemy(ies), so I would call it far from useless.

But you cannot have a companion, a dog, summons, and be in an area that is in the middle of nowhere to use it.....

They made it so if your companion accidentally hits you with a spell, the spell does no damage to you, why not do the same with these shouts? =/

Err that's the whole point of the shout isn't it?

I'll probably never use this shout in normal play. I don't want to risk killing innocents.

You're using it wrong. It's an AOE spell, it damages everything.

Maybe you shouldn't use it when people are around you.

Yeah, it's just that I've seen threads like these talking about Storm Call. :sadvaultboy:

I think it's just me, but I rarely take along a companion, so it's pretty useful. Plus, how many times are you in the middle of nowhere? Yeah.

If it has a chance of killing companions, then it = useless. I always have a companion. Why make one game feature that can break another? Disapprove.

Use one of the other 20 shouts if it bothers you so much. If you have the advantage of a companion then you can't use storm call, its a tradeoff, deal with it

Um but it is being controlled that is why there is such an absurdly high hit a living target rate. It isn't hitting the houses, or other high points instead of the schmuck in the village it is hitting the schmuck So it a a AoE where you can control it to hit people but for some reason you can't have it miss the people on the ground. It should just hit air born targets or something, as is you can only use it in such a limited range of scenarios it is basically pointless.

Sure, makes perfect sense. In a game where we are expected to marry and/or have permanent or semi-permanent companions, pets, and horses, I'll just ignore the most powerful shout in the game because it destroys my friends, family, pets, and steed.

Makes sense to me.

What i find weird is that storm call never attacks dragons. despite them being the highest thing in the sky and that in one of the demo videos tom used a storm call to bring down a frost dragon.

Being free do to anaything (or so they say) in a game doesn't mean that there should be no consequence at all imo
i see this is a good feature

EDIT: oh in the real world you can marry, have friends etc but at the same time you could (well somene can) drop an atomic bomb on them...

Because being able to control lightening is silly....especially when you can control fireballs, wildlife, the undead, conjure electricity from your hands etc. We are in a world with Dragons, magic, trolls, giant spiders etc what is a little element control?

But yeah, Storm call is not to be used if you do not want to kill the population of a town or your companions, because it targets everything.

Great if you cast it in a bandit settlement or forsworn settlement, bad if you cast it in a town you like.

If you want to control lightning then get a shock spell, don't complain that you can't control nature...

I leanred this the hard way when IU used it in the middle of the battle of Windhelm....

Honestly, there needs to be a way to make spells not effect your own companions and summons at the very least.

Though I love how people going "Can't control lightning lul" are missing the point entirely.

reducing further on the friendly fire? hell no, not for me at least
games without "friendly fire" brake any sense of immersion for me

I love the fact that it's uncontrolable, as a force 'o nature should be! :goodjob:

Immersion is no excuse for lack of polish.

That they got it to work one way but not the other is an inconsistency. Immersion has no place when basic game functionality is a concern. This is an RPG. Many people seem to forget that last letter.
