If Talos isn't divine, he'd be in Sovngaard

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 9:20 pm

Tiber Septim (or Talos) is the 9th divine, the one currently banned in the Empire because the Thalmor don't believe he became divine. If that were the case, shouldn't Tiber Septim be located in the same Sovngaard that the Dohvakin briefly travels to? Tiber Septim grew up in Skyrim as a dragonborn, and led a fierce warrior's life. Descibed by Skyrim's locals as a "native son" this would mean he was nord, despite being born in High Rock. Tiber Septim would surely be in Sovngaard if he did not become divine.

All the dragonborn needs to do is ask Shor if Tiber Septim is among their number for proof for or against this Thalmor ideology. The problem would be bringing the proof back to Nirn.

He is a divine in reality (or Elder Scrolls reality) but the Thalmor want the Imperials to denounce Talos as a diety in order to piss off the nords, and it worked.

Or he fell off of the Whale bone bridge...
He is a Divine though, seeing as you get a blessing from his shrines and all that.

Technically the shrines could have an enchantment on them, but yes, there is enough evidence in previous games that he is a divine.
Spoiler
You actually meet him in Morrowind as part of an easter egg

The thalmor believe he is a divine. They're pretty sure he is one. But they want to change that(Talos stands in the way of their ultimate goal). Get rid of his worshippers and he'll cease to be one.

He is a divine, he appears in Morrowind and has all the properties of a divine.

The Thalmor don't actually think he isn't a divine, but they want to cast doubt to subjugate man.

Is he actually a divine or just considered a divine? I know that some mortals like Mannimarco and the Tribunal gained some level of divinity through various magic.... does Talos fall under this category?

He's taken the position of Lorkhan, so yes he's a divine.

He didn't die in battle so there is no reason for him to be in Sovangarde. Your theory is false.

He could also have been a Werewolf, or made a pact with more or less any Daedra. However all evidence points to him being a divine, if you use his shrine it works exactly as any of the actual divines, haven't played Morrowind so i cannot comment on his appearance there, but yes, again, his divinity seems quite certaion. Of course it could always be Clavicus Vile pulling a practical joke on the gullible Nords.

Talos is a God, there's plenty of evidence to support it from the series. The Thalmor are just trying to make the humans "drink the kool-aid" and undo creation.

The only of the Eight we see in Sovngarde is Tsun. And Alduin, if you still consider him the mirror twin of Akatosh.

That's part of it. It's also that Talos is an aspect of Shor and thus of Lorkhan - and the Thalmor want to destroy Lorkhan through total lack of belief, resulting in the end of the world and, as they believe, the ascension of all Altmer to godhood.

Or something like that.

Talos is a divine. Sovengarde is only one option to go to after death, which Talos didn't take. (if sovengarde even existed before he became a divine, who knows if he was the one who created it!)

Spoiler

Its sort of implied the Ysgramor didn't die in battle.

Also Olaf One-Eye is debatable, as its likely his was more just from the battle with Numinex. Not to mention he is also Drauger defending his tomb, or atleast was able to become one/return.

However, like everyone said its strongly implied in both the other games as well as all evidence points to Talos becoming a Divine.

I don't think dying in battle is a requirement to be welcomed to Sovangarde. After all, Jurgen Windcaller is there, and he became a pacifist.

Maybe he wasn't judged worthy to enter Sovngarde. That guy double triple crossed everyone to become emperor. A real slimy bastard, even if a brilliant military strategist. Also the story that he had many names may be interpreted in a less glorified way as a hint that he assumed different identities because he was a wanted man for his actions or because he used fake identities to get in touch with certain people.

Let's look at it this way- if Talos isn't divine then why do I get a Fortify Shouts buff when I pray at his altar?

Edit: Next time I'll read the whole thread instead of the first and last post before replying :P
