Ten things about the Vampire Lord

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:32 pm

Are you [censored] kidding me? Damn it, way to murder vampirism! I bet Bethesda did this to appease the whiney brats who kept complaining that they were attacked in stage 4 vampirism. They expect vampirism to be all bonuses and no drawbacks and they are too lazy to feed. And some of us who enjoy lore have to suffer as these casual gamers get what they want. This pisses me off so much.

I have encountered no such people. You are pointing a finger at a group of people that doesn't really exist.

Have to being the operative word.
When I want to know something I Google it myself. If I cannot find it I ask for a source then.
Exactly,for example.SOURCE SOURCE!
Source Hollandaise
Also,it cant be that hard to watch a five minute vid with a little attension, can it?

Agreed especially after E3. It's only like the biggest gaming convention in the world.
It's not hard looking up your own source.
I even do that if I don't believe something on here I look it up myself instead of saying, source.

Off-topic response: Agreed. But nonetheless, when info comes up that is very hard to find OR easily missed, the burden of proof lies with the one giving the info.

Asking for a source should only be done when the info is not readily available elsewhere, of course.

On-topic: I am somewhat pleased with how the Lvl 1-4 vampires will now all be able to blend into society, though the tradeoff of being a 4 vs. a 1 is that you are heavily penalized by daytime weakness and weakness to fire, etc., even though you do gain more powers, active effect strength, and frost resistance at level 4. I'd rather have it be that way, because then feeding won't seem counter-productive, as it will keep you "stronger" in general and you will retain positive vampiric bonuses as a level 1, but you could always choose to RP and benefit by letting yourself advance through 2, 3 and 4 when you want more vampire-specific prowess.

As for changing to a Vampire Lord, that just seems to be as fun as being a werewolf, if not more. Though I thought it was odd that the main G4 interview with Todd Howard showed a VL in daytime in Riften. Kinda demeaning to the lore of being a vampire from a faction which wants to block out the sun....imo. I am also very curious about how the VL will fare in sunlight compared to standard vampires.....

I really, really hope you are wrong about third person only.

It would mean I would not buy the DLC, as I refuse to play in third person only.
Its why Im never a werewolf either.

Yeah....that's why I agreed....

Anyway, has anyone found info about how Vampire Lords are affected by sunlight? Or perhaps if their resistances and buffs are different or much better than regular vampire benefits?

Also, I like the fact that VL form is unlimited time-wise. Probably my favorite piece of info from the OP.

EDIT: @ above - I'm pretty sure it is 3rd person only for the VL. I don't remember it being confirmed in an interview, but I think it was in an article about a journalists time playing the game, or just someone playing it at E3.

My friend I seen in a video somewhere that it said you go into third person for the vampire lord form. It's certainly irritating and I do not like the fact that you cannot choose the option to be in first person. Ot should be a choice on what view you wish to play as.

Darn, thats not good news :(
Im also unhappy about not being attacked at stage four anymore.
The reason I enjoy playing a vampire is because it has downsides.
The need to feed regularly grounds you in the world, rather than stand apart from it like in normal gameplay.
It is the biggest thing you have to manage as a vampire, the removal of it means I likely wont bother with Dawnguard at all.

You do realize DG adds a hundred other things not related to vampires right?

Irrelevant when my favorite playstyle is as a vampire and the DLC removes what is enjoyable about vampirism.

You can still sneak through town without being seen if it matters that much

Once again, irrelevant.
Look, I dont know who you are trying to convince here.
Its quite simple. Vampirism is enjoyable, DLC removes that, so no DLC for me.
Its not the end of the world and its not something up for discussion really. It is as it is.

Yes, there is. You should of visit the forums more right after Skyrim's release with people complaining that they are always being attacked in towns and villages. And that they hate being a vampire.
Bethesda caught on that, and decided to faciliate vampirism gameplay to appease to the whiners.

Do you think that vampires are being "dumbed down", and made more convenient, so that the masses will buy their DLC? Bethesda would not do that.....would they?

I just think more lore will be butchered. I was actually excited to see that there were new ways of feeding and blood bottles to drink. Players could just store the bottles in the inventory and when they reach the fourth stage, they could drink it and revert back a stage. Or bite some unsuspecting bandit. Now, it seems there is no reason for these vampiric stages anymore. No true drawbacks.

I have no idea, and I wouldnt think it very productive to assign motive like that.
I also dont know if its 'dumbed down' or not.
What I do know is that I very much enjoy the need to feed. As I explained, it grounds you in the world. Makes you a part of it, rather than stand apart from it like non-vampire builds who never have reason to care if its day or night or if they feed or not.
That you have to remember to feed regularly is the main upkeep mechanism for a vampire.
Removing that would remove half of the fun of playing one for me, so Im not going to bother.

I think they will have something in exchange for taking away the stage four hostile NPC thing. We have to wait.

It's on UESP,and a couple of articles and i remember hearing about it in one of the E3 interviews. But i cant say it's 100% true.Seems we have to wait untill it's confirmed officially.
