TESIV:POSItive Site Redesign

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:34 pm

I just see your question about the correct version of Wrye Bash http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1105224-relz-wrye-bash-thread-47/page__view__findpost__p__16198139, so we can drop this for a moment.
Spoiler
Maybe you should change the text "Download the latest (archive) version of Wrye Bash, the v275 installer and the Wrye Python 03 package." to "Download the latest Wrye Python installer." in the program & utilities section.

IMO - I think you should stick to the red colour theme because the colours matches each other pretty nice. :D
You're doing a great job with the site so just hang in there. :)

I need to modify the BCFs and OMOD Info page to be auto-generated with the file author, the requirements and a description (if applicable.)

I've really gotta get that search engine updated somehow...

Edit: Something needs to be done about those scrollbars too.

If you have trouble with that why start a thread in the Community section and if you're lucky maybe you can have an *expert* to assist you.

I was just checking the site when I notice in the Contact form that "Installation Guide thread" link should be this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106994-tesivpositive-installation-guides/ instead.

When I read your *to-do* list I saw a couple suggestions about an omod installer. Actually you can do just that in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1105086-obmm-extended-launching-error/ and even have an update on Nexus of all installed mods & omod.

I was referring to making OMOD Conversion Data for mods mentioned on the site that do not already have it.

I mean those suggestions in your http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1091580-tesivpositive-performance-optimiation-stabilization-information/page__view__findpost__p__15926037 list and you can create an omod conversion data in OBMM-Ext.

There is also a function for searching an update through TES Nexus of any mod that has not have an omod conversion data yet, but only if they where downloaded from there.
I've already updated the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22414 and the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28748 (omod installer) both mods in omod version.

You can search a specific "File ID" is also available in OBMM-Ext and any installed mods that you have on your computer can be updated too.

edit - has an moveable obmm mod folder option

I am still unclear about this.

You can create OMOD Conversion data with OBMM, as it is. You can also add websites to OMODs, such that the 'Visit website' function works. The searching for updates feature, is new to me, but sound interesting (which is what I think I liked when you showed me the extension earlier.) You can also move the OMODs folder in OBMM, as it is.

These feature I describe to you is not available in obmm 1.1.12 only in obmm-ext.

Here is a http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1886/obmmextocdcreator528786.jpg taken in the "OCD Creator" window and there is also the "File ID Search" option I mentioned earlier.

All of those fields are accessible in the OMOD creation window. I do not see what is different.

Where OBMM uses OMODs to install, Wrye Bash's mod installer (BAIN) can use 7z, RAR and ZIP archives. It even allows you to explore 7-zip files. It inherently supports prioritized installation. No longer is there a need to completely uninstall big mods such as QTP when you find that you have installed it on top of the UOP. Take advantage of its functions that allow for installation "patching." For example, the Anneal function (right-click on a package menu) can be used to reinstall selected files that may need to overwritten in the event that you, for example, move the UOP after QTP3 after, previously, (both commas can be deleted) installing the two mods in the wrong order. Another great feature of this mod utility is its excellent conflict detector. Have you ever installed multiple cosmetic mods and later wondered which version of which body texture was installed? Wonder no longer. It is possible to see both installed and implicit (among unistalled uninstalled packages) conflicts. The users user has total control over which version of a mod's files is are installed last (the version that shows up in the game.) The only mods you should absolutely avoid installing with BAIN are shader packages. You should have a backup of the original shaders folder anyway (as they seem to be a particularly vulnerable group of files) but OBMM is the utility to use to install shader editors. BAIN is the more effective option in almost every other category.

(My BAIN package list page contains more information about handling exceptions and contains all of the following mods surround by more than 300 others.)

However, Streamline can be made into a simple package because it only offers to installation two installations

The Streamline bit did not make any sense. That example has been corrected to create a BAIN-Ready Streamline package.

I am building a new system (and upgrading two others) tomorrow (I hope) so the site will be left to wherever it is when I leave off tonight. I have started extracting some of the utility installations and updated a lot of information on the site for some of the new BSA and Oblivion.ini findings. The Complete Guide is getting more complete by the day thanks to my super cool "guinea pig", Nightwolfhunter.

Tomlong-

Recently attempted to find info on your site about tracing down a corrupt spawn point but could not find ... thought I'd seen it there, but I guess not.

Anyway went through some of my old saved links and cleaned a bunch of dead ones out but here are a few that are still alive:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1033875-tracking-down-a-corrupt-spawn-point/
http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=870869
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/881204-the-oblivion-performance-project-topp/

Might find something useful for troubleshooting section in those. If you already have these links - nevermind.

In my latest game installation I was having misplaced map icons, but the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1109130-req-conversion-of-maps-from-normal-to-widescreen-resolution/page__view__findpost__p__16255201 for this problem was not on the site and I think it should be added.

Yes, I have seen that problem a few times. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will add it.

@Psymon: I only have one of the links you pointed out on the site right now. I will add those as well, thanks.

Right now, after I get back from a not so short errand, I am working on getting Psymon's BAIN papers ported and doing a little code refactoring as well. The external stat counters were killing the loading time. I will write my own instead.

hey, I know you already did the redesign, but if you would ever like any help, I would be more than glad to. I have put together and created numerous sites, as an example here two templates I put together.

Thank you for the offer. I have someone working on a couple templates to make it "prettier." She will get around to it this week, I hope, but I have a lot of coding to finish up in the meantime. The site should be loading significantly faster now, and I have a couple more optimizations to make.

For the most part, I have moved my focus toward content updates, starting with the CPS library, the complete guide and now Psymon's BAIN projects. I want to get a few more RLOs up and then working on the Aesthetic Overhauling Guide. That should be fun. The game looks pretty awesome already, and I have yet to install half of my visual enhancements, including the ULs. I want to try OGE stuff too, but the might have to wait until Winter at this point. There are a ton of things on the to-do list in the other thread that I can do without immediate access to Oblivion, however.

If anyone has any screenshots they would like to see for a particular page (or group of pages) let me know.

Happy gaming!
- Tomlong75210

Edit: New content updates are going to be slightly delayed as I learn how to setup XAMPP. I was using WAMP on WinXP. This is a little new for me...

I am unable to fix it due to the fact it works on my end, the url how ever is http://moderndesigns.co.cc/titusvillemotorcompany/ if you would like to look at it.

And I was just offering. I do not do professional business due to the reason I believe they can afford it, but I am welling to give free designs to companies starting out and people doing a general service.
If you would ever need help, just send me a PM through here.

But, I do enjoy what you have created, quite useful

Small Updates:
- fixed the inconsistency with page titles appearing at different distances from the top of the page
- created local hit counter, greatly reducing loading time
- implemented floating table of contents (plans to make draggable)
- grabbed jQuery min, but it is not being used yet
- added links pointing to top of page in the various sections of http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=downloading_mods

You should also make sections that are most used a little more visible (Maybe put these on the right hand side of the website like you have for some links)

For e.g.:

Your BAIN Installation Package list (I can find it on the right-hand side of the site, but never while browsing through the tree folder)
FCOM guide (It is in a non-intuitive location, at least for me - has too many parent tabs/sections)
List of BCFs and OMODs (I can never find that page)

FCOM guide (It is in a non-intuitive location, at least for me - has too many parent tabs/sections)
List of BCFs and OMODs (I can never find that page)

The whole point of the Quick Links menu is to make frequently accessed pages visible. The main bar on the left has the general structure. Where would you have my BAIN package list located instead? I can create a mod packaging tab, but I need to figure out what content could be added to it to justify its addition.

The FCOM Guide is under Guides & Tutorials > Mod Installation Guides. There are multiple installation guides. They have to be grouped somewhere. The site is not for FCOM users, specifically. If you search "FCOM" in the site's search bar, it the FCOM Installation Guide is the only result returned. If you have a suggestion for another place in which to link it, let me know. How important should that guide be? Should I add a site feature section to the homepage, or mention it in the "What is Here?" section, explicitly?

BCFs and OMOD info are most relevant to installing mods. I suppose that page could be an entry if I were to make a mod packaging section. Would that help? I could add title attributes to the nav bar buttons describing each section.

The purpose of the organization of this site is to keep the number of parents minimal and to make as much as possible visible at the top (two?) levels. I figured that "Mod Install Guides" would tell users to look there for the installation guide for a particular mod (if it is hosted.)

I need to update the "How to Navigate..." section, so I can add suggestions (other that which is presented for new users) there...

Edit: Well, I still have to implement that site navigation helper. The button which I have added to show a table of contents for each page can be converted to do that. I can add a drop-down menu to the div that appears that would enable the user to switch between "Page Navigation", "SiteNav Suggestions" and whatever else. I wonder what the default setting should be... I could store the state that the user chooses. The default can vary by page or something, but that is a minor detail.

Edit: In addition to the two views mentioned, a third could be feature pages or something. I can add that sort of section to the homepage as well.
