TESIV:POSItive Site Redesign

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:02 am

Hi Tomlong

Some typos on the new site. Let me know if you prefer an alternative format in which to report them. I have linked to the page then listed the errors under each link. Not finished yet, but it's a start.

http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=hardware_anolysis

NPCs are added by all kinds of mods, but the those to check your specs over for are the overhauls, creature diversity mods and population increasing mods

do not install big High Rez textures packs, and install all of the mesh optimization mods you can find

Perhaps should read: "...packs. Instead install all..."

The other thing to watch out for are firmware updates. (things?)

http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=mod_conflicts

Most mods conist of plugins and/or data files.

Installing these alertanate NIF files, requires different DDS and _N.DDS files as well.

Conflicts may arrise when plugins override the same records.

It depends on how important the override is to a mods functionality. (mod's)

In addition to maintaining good installation and load orders, the user can take preventative steps before gettingt to the installation part of using mods.

If you can be sure of any conflicts in your mods list, even without knowing much about the inards of the plugins, it is most likely that if it contains multiple mods that make the same sorts of changes, it has conflicts. (innards)

http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=downloading_and_extracting_files

The format supported by most Oblivion utilities are .7z, .rar or .zip. (formats)

On http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=omod_script_templates the vertical scrollbars are IMHO unnecessary, and it would look a lot neater without them. Unfortunately, while I came across this too, I can't remember how to stop them displaying for that tiny up/down movement. Perhaps it's to do with the vertical padding? Anyway, just a suggestion. The font changes are very much appreciated. :)

I've seen the new colour scheme and I think the background is excellent, but you could change the text colour for the buttons to yellow / white or cyan perhaps. :)

Good luck and well done.

I tried various colors, and those are too bright. I would not mind if they were greener, but messing around with light fonts with that scheme was blinding me. I have to use dull colors. I did see a greener font that was kind of nice, but I thought it was too close to the blue background, maybe just a little too hard to read. If you have some colors for me to try out, please post them. My skill with change the hex to change the brightness is limited, but I will at least try. I definitely what to put a couple more schemes together. I actually wanted to use the gold with the red theme, but we will see...

I'll also see if I can find that green again. The problem, now that I think about it, may have been that I did not like the contrast between that and the gray menu header text. I tried a lighter yellow too, too much contrast there though. I need to make the code box background less brown, and the default theme needs colored borders in order to hide the problem with borders coming from different divs (i.e., the bad give away with the Quick Links menu header.)

Thank you very much for collecting these. I will fix them as soon as I have a little time.

The scroll bars are killing me. Especially with Google Chrome. I'll look into vertical padding and see what else can be done. I plan to get rid of the horizontal scrolling all together by using a little JavaScript to have the code boxes extend on hover.

Edit: I actually tried to deal with this a bit yesterday, but I was unpleasantly surprised to find that 'overflow-x' did not register...

Thank you all for the constant feedback!

I just set my alarm an hour earlier, but somehow, in the process, I set my clock two hours back. You can definitely say I'm running late today. I'll be there until seven... :(

Ugh! I feel for you. I feel like I'm just now getting my energy back from staying up all night Sunday! Somehow, coffee always gets me through!

Hang in there...

The only text colour I've used is the colour scheme that you have in the post editor. :user:

Just look in my signature and below is the hex code.

TES IV - POSItive, TES IV - POSItiveTES IV - POSItive, TES IV - POSItiveTES IV - POSItive, TES IV - POSItive

If you need something different I need to work with OpenOffice's Writer and post them as an image instead. :)

You probably know this already... but just in case!

http://www.gimp.org/ is really good for playing with colors, and it's free! Yay, open source!

EDIT: added link!

Thanks! I really like the orange/yellow on the top-right and the greenish font. I had something a bit paler that I really like, but I was being anol about the contrast there, again. I'll check these out today. I actually have a bit of time now for playing around with Firefox and Chrome.

Agreed. :D I'm thinking Paint.NET would suffice for playing around with colors in this case, but GIMP has the whole spectrum. (I just don't like loading the thing...)

Just google for a http://files.myopera.com/e2f/Photo/color%20code.GIF, like I did the other day.

There are not enough colors, and in order to control the perceived brightness, you have to take into account that the color of the background. I make colors appear more dull or pale by making the color closer to that of the background. For the dark theme, that means that all colors have "extra" blue in them.

Okay, I'm switching this theme away from the gold. Now, I really need to make the dark red theme. The colors I have now are very dark red, black, oxidized-arterial blood red and fold. I have no clue what the font will be.

Blue Theme changes:
Title - no separate font color
Body - border: #90AFC7; color: #94BFC4;
navbar and toggle button share mainmenu button font color - color : #A8ECA4
page links - color: #CFFB5C; a:visited - color: #BFBFB0
menus - border-color: #98AFC7
header - background: #020224

open list - background: #002440, a color: #78BC84; a:hover color: #CFFB5C, padding-left +1px;

Edit: amended

Edit: First Red Layout

background change to #180000
buttons share font color: #B8B8B8
no border color change on buttons on hover
menu list background #0c0000

Edit: keeping current dark theme, main menu button color: #98AFA0

Cdebox colors will be uniform across dark themes, switching to black with gray text of some sort, and default codebox background needs to be less green. The quotes will have different text format, and will probably be changed away from pre. There will be two different quote styles, rather.

Edit: quick links menu needs spacing between entries

Edit: I fixed the typos you posted Loopy_Cecil. Thanks, again.

Okay, today I need to implement those other themes and the code to switch between them (which is what I have not really felt like doing.) Also, the new complete guide may make the Site Navigator completely unnecessary. It is turning out to be much more complete than I had initially imagined. It is more of a "Complete Quick Start Guide" than some comprehensive intro. That one will take longer to write. I can take suggestions for content additions for users that prefer more detail after I get the first version of the guide up.

There is still a long list of to-dos left on in the main site thread, so I have to attend to those this weekend. Some of those are going to take a bit longer to introduce because I want to make a small change to the CPS libraries rendering process that is going to require small changes to about 50 records. Last, but not least, I have to go through all of the pages and fill-in all of the "Coming Eventually..." pages. The only other thing missing from the current structure of the site is the page action button. The only thing I am sure I will associate that is site feedback, but I could also add other things to the page action menu, such as quick settings changes or something.

The other connect that I put off is the use of information entered on the settings page, but since I'll be putting the theme changing code there, that will be linked up too. That about does it for the new site's design. The "pretty" banner and all that will go in whenever my graphic designer finishes. Hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later, but I am having some extra fun playing around with HTML colors.

That's good news. I think that your concept of the "Complete Quick Start Guide" is a better description of the whole site.

I wonder if you're doing any updates with every site links while you're doing the coding now this weekend?
If so don't rush with it and if miss something just post your questions here instead. Okay. :)

I was describing the "Complete Guide" that will be linked in the Mod Installation Guides section.

I'm not updating the links, but maybe I am not understanding what you meant by that...

Since you're well aware of that some updated version has been released for the last 1-2 months, but I've noticed a few links on the site which is not updated though.

That was I meant for updating the links. My apology if you get confused what I said earlier.

I must correct my self here.

Which links are not updated? I did a site-wide search for links to the old site some time ago, but if you are talking about links to pages that no longer exist on the new site, I simply have not found them yet. If you find any, please let me know.

To start with I can mention two things there is outdated.

 • Wrye Bash 275 & Wrye Python 3 - Program and Utilies
 • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32277 for Oblivion Mod Manager (not mentioned before) - same section

I can check the site more frequently this weekend, while you try to make your own to-do list a little shorter among other things. :)

I have the Wrye Python 03 package listed, and the extended version of OBMM is not the same as the original utility. It is not a version update. Its an extension made by some other user. I may add a link to it, but I have not looked into that project at all.

Maybe you should change the text "Download the latest (archive) version of Wrye Bash, the v275 installer and the Wrye Python 03 package." to "Download the latest Wrye Python installer." in the program & utilities section.

I've test the OBMM extended a little, but of what I've seen so far I like it. :D
You can search for mod updates through Nexus in the OBMM Extended which I've found two updated mods.

I don't get the change. v275 is the latest installer for Wrye Bash and Wrye Python 0-3 is the latest dependencies package.

I like that second bit about OBMM extended. I still think it is an off-shoot from the main application, but it sounds worth adding a blurb about. Hopefully, I can get to it this weekend.

I've created the code for switching between multiple themes, and now I need to go create at least one more. After that, I think I just want to hit the to-do list. Actually, I really want to finish the complete guide... Argh, I can't decide. I will do something when I finish brushing my teeth though. I think I can continue with the "Quick Start Guide" version today, and throw in the "view details" boxes later.

Five themes up: I think I am going to replace the original dark theme (dark2) with an earth tones theme, and change the default theme to "bright" or "high contrast" or "White" or something...

Wow! I have got to get caught up... you've been busy!

EDIT: Nice! I'm actually a fan of the dark 2, and the blue... and to be honest, I like the default a lot, but I never one any awards for web page design! Nice work!

I'm actually favoring the new dark theme. I have to love the blue theme, regardless, but I like them all, pretty much. The default is too bright sometimes, but if it is the first web page I view, it would probably be okay. I get used to whatever theme I am working with as I develop the site. In that case, I'll just add the earth tones theme, instead of replacing other things. I can do more of an inverted high contrast theme, if anyone needs that too.
