TESIV:POSItive Site Redesign

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:58 am

I fixed the problem. It has to do with font sizes. Different fonts are different pixel sizes by default. The problem exists in Chrome and Firefox. This has nothing to do with Firefox.

Edit: The fonts are fine as they are now. I wish I could use Times New Roman for the menus, but it does not look good at 9pt, and a bigger size causes the bug with that font too.

Great news! That explains it and well done Tomlong. :goodjob:

I've just tested a few fonts in http://www.openoffice.org/ (Writer).
You can use either ariel or sans serif with 10pts or verdana (9pts), I think the verdana font is acceptable with that small font size. You're right about font size 9 for times new roman and I find it hard to read the text.

The site was originally using Arial as the main font. The main menu was using 10pt font. The main site is back to Arial now. I just had to change the main menu to Arial narrow, which is fine.

Of course the arial narrow is much better choice compared to those fonts I mention earlier. Nice! :D

You mentioned Arial, haha. I like Verdana too...for arrows. They are nice and centered. I used it for just that on a couple of pages (i.e., Programs & Utilities.)

We have the same the taste of fonts, because I've also used both Arial & Arial Narrow when I retype a bridge compendium for nearly 10 years ago.

The verdana have a good text height of small sizes and that font was among the first I tried in writer earlier.

That silly font bug is back. Arggghh! Chrome has it big time, and it still evidences itself in Firefox on the (still very much in progress) settings page.

Nope, not me with Firefox because I've just check it my self. :nope:

Since I don't know what additions you have installed for Firefox we cannot rule out Firefox just yet.

I removed the change border to solid on hover CSS rule. That definitely killed the issue.

That's good. :)

This little annoying *thing* that has bothering you for the couple a days now, has almost got me to forget "where were we" when it's starts to irritating both of us.

Oh yes ...
Now I remember, we was just start to discuss about the colour that you want to use on the web site when this happen.

Before I make some suggestions of the colours, can you in mean time give me a hint of what colour that's your favourites. :)

Blue, green, black, silver... First, I would like to just have a theme that has the colors from the old site, a dark skin. The different colors are what you see in the main layout (i.e., site title, buttons, links, etc.) and some page-specific things (i.e., codebox, quotes and the names in the acknowledgements section.) That is all there is for color at the moment.

I found it difficult to find a correct colour tone for the silver in such short notice, but I've a http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7323/colourtheme4tesivpositi.jpg for you.

This is content request, not layout. But could you add a Post Your Package Order page?

I love the blue and black, the middle background, but that looks to distracting to be behind text. The old site, for example, was white, black, grey and shades of blue. The grey around the search box works for silver, I think. My designer has put together a banner. It needs to be tweaked a bit, but hopefully I can add it today or tomorrow. Once that is up, it should be easier to figure out colors for the backgrounds and text.

Here is a random page: http://www.muelleraustin.com/ <-- I only want a few colors, largely solid.
Another random page: http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2030
Here we go: http://bluelaguna.net/
I love Square Enix's site: http://www.square-enix.com/na/ <-- not many colors
Random: I did not know Square Enix was working on Supreme Commander 2...or maybe I did and forgot...
Manga-Updates: http://www.mangaupdates.com/ <-- blue, just not the "right" blue, but I like this blue too, actually... ^_____^
anidb.net has a bunch of nice themes, I use the default though
jQuery: http://jquery.com/ <-- blue and black and definitely my kind of (dark) color scheme ^____^

I should have pulled up my windows schemes... You know, that blue and black is cool, but the design is a little active.

Forever Blue is one of my favorite Windows themes (minus the sidebar and all of that junk) http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/ForeverBlue-XP-Theme-Screenshot-1042.html

Posting a package order does not take much, so I can just add it to the Know How To... page. Is that fine? I was thinking about adding some Dxdiag stuff and Task Manager stuff there too...

My posted pics was really a teaser of what you can do with OpenOffice.org (Writer) even have a linked button I think. ;)

My favourite was the JQuery site with a little tweak here and there it could be a possible layout.

It's late and I feel a little tried right now, because my local time is 12.32AM and I can't think clearly enough.
If you want I can post some more examples of ideas for the layout, but first I would like to have a look on what will add to the site later on. Now I'm so sleepy I can't find the button to post my reply. Good Night Tomlong. :snoring:

I don't know if I have seen that page. But whatever you think is best!
I saw that you updated the BAIN page with some good examples. I have to read through it again. Thanks.

I've just check the new web site and it seems to be accurate, but I would like to add http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index another popular mod site. :D

Also add these utilities. :user:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31766
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Utilities.Detail&id=74

I have looked at the BOSS GUI's Nexus page, my focus being the changelog. BOMM users would gain no benefit from using it, but for those that cannot use BOMM, it is definitely a convenience as far as updating. My only concern is consistency. I have WinXP, so that is not the best way to test. I will mention it on the BOSS page, perhaps. On another note, I think I am going to give Notepad++ its own page. It would take to much space on the apps list to describe its greatness (not to mention listing the links of all of the available syntax additions and useful plugins.)

I still need to look at the last two.

Edit: I really do not like the Mem/CPU tweaks of the INI tweak tool being unlabled. The information is nice, but that is enough for me to leave it alone. I would not put the Multi-threaded tweaks there at all, either...

Edit: The save manager crashed on me on multiple occasions, and the buttons were too close together and the font too small on the GUI for me. The first part matters more though...

I've tested the BOSS gui a little on XP and so far nothing problematic have happen yet, except for the updating process of both masterlist (excellent) and the program (unsuccessful) updates.
Good idea to have a whole page for Notepad++.

May I also suggest that put a search link of each group on Nexus such as "Patch" and "Utilities" section on the link page. :)

Those links are not specific enough. Not all patches and utilities are created equal, and users can search the different categories on TESNexus themselves. The links section on the Programs & Utilities page will primarily contain links to docs or plugins not readily linked somewhere, and the Search TESNexus page goes over the different search options.

From what I understand, all the GUI does is update the masterlist. Do you run it instead of the BAT file? In any case, I can link it on the BOSS page. What happens when BOSS itself is updated, since the EXE is no longer needed. Does that mean that the GUI utility will have to be updated as well?

No problem. I can't think of any improvements off hand. I have so much I want to do modding wise, I have a lot on my plate right now.
Could have a page to recognize great modders? But that may not fit into your scheme. If I think of something, I'll get back to ya.

Having certain modders' mods all over the site and on the Downloading Mods page is enough. The site is for Oblivion users and probably even more useful for those using mods.

I'm sorry Tomlong, but right now I can't thinking at all due the summer heat with over 30 degree Celsius.
