My computer was only getting 13-14 fps in whiterun, but after doing this I am seeing 18-19 fps. That's 40% increase just as the claim was. I'm impressed!
Thanks so much guys!

because the developers at Bethesda, for some reason, compiled the game without using any of the optimization flags for release builds.

Pretty much. I installed a high res texture pack, turned on ambient occlusion, and actually saw an increase in fps in most places thanks to the plugin and new drivers.

Bethesda was probably saving this little optimization for their final patch so they could say "SEE!?! WE SUPPORT YOU GUYZ!"

Now somebody stole their thunder.

I think you are right, played 2 min. the game, then switched to msi afterburner, and viola the game with the heavy mods that i use, eats all my vram memory )))

But, again i've removed just for test the landscape and the armor folders from the textures mod, and the game still eats all my vram memory, but i have no stutterings, nothing, full smooth playgame.

One doesn't see how much the vram gets overloaded. The higher the amount of textures that have to be swapped between ram and vram, the more drastic stuttering gets. If you overload your available vram only a bit, no stuttering will occur. At least that's what I think to be the reason for it.

Right, because your CPU is used to render-ahead, and of course that uses your RAM, not VRAM. But there's a relatively small amount of pre-rendered frames, generally a maximum of 3.

I think.

I just tested this in the Dragonsreach/Whiterun trouble spot and saw zero difference. I triple checked that I installed SKSE and the dll properly.

If it sounds too good to be true...

Can you open the console and type 'getskseversion' and tell us what you get?

Did you also start the game with skse_loader instead of the regular launcher? Not doubting you, just checking. If you did that part, there may be other settings you have applied that may be causing the drop in your case. Just because it doesn't work at that one spot in your configuration does not make this useless.

i downloaded skse. dropped the loader.exe and 2 dll files into skyrim folder. then i created skse folder in data folder. and then created a plugin in folder inside the skse folder.
then launch the game using steam loader or whatever its called.... except at first i get a error not working with a black scren box pop up then the game launches!!

Using the latest SKSE 1.04.02 and followed the instructions to a tee.

I didn't get the 5-10fps like people are saying. But I applaud the modders for trying.

Edit: Look you guys, I'm just reporting my experience. Never did I say their work was useless.

The 40% performance gain is there, it's just on your system you can't see it. If you have ~30 FPS stable then it could be Vsync interfering. If you have <30 then it's probably another bottleneck. If you already had 50+ without the mod at the trouble spots then you didn't really have much of a bottleneck to begin with.

Remember: 40% performance gain when doing X does not mean your framerate will increase by 40%. It'll only increase if X is actually a bottleneck for your system.

Edit: Also some people are saying they need to go to places like Markath and Riverwood, which are the most famous FPS killer towns, to see the difference (especially with Markath).

Can you blame Bethesda?

I bet you they were rushing to get the game out on the 11.11.11 and just used a high end quick compiler or something, instead of compiling the Instruction sets properly for a Intel (screwed-up) CISC architecture. I'll wait a while with this mod and see if it breaks anything. I don't like programs on the Machine Level set, it can pretty much destroy your computer if it's not handled carefully.

Added -- Note: If using the skse_loader crashes for you on WIndows Vista/7, right-click it and use "Run as Administrator". Works for some, even when it shouldn't. Possibly to do with certain virus scanners.

It says the command is not found? Did I not install it right? I followed the readmes for both files.

I'd not been too interested to install "skse" for the few mods that make use of it, but I am tempted to make use of this.
Will report back after a bit of testing.

In \Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim you should have these files:

skse_1_3_10
skse_loader
skse_steam_loader

In \Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\SKSE\plugins (a folder which doesn't exist until you create it), you should have these files:

TESVAL

If all that checks out, make sure you're running skse_loader as Administrator (right-click, Run as Administrator).

Once you install it. Go ahead and install SkyUi too. Man what a difference that mod makes in playability.
