Reporting back about my trouble w/ SKSE. Turns out that if you just execute skse_loader to run the game, than SKSE will not load. Steam must already be running and then execute skse_loader and it will load properly. So I repeat, run Steam first, then run skse_loader.

I can confirm now that this mod is the real deal. I got a 10 FPS boost in Dragonsreach/Whiterun.

THANK-YOU to the geniuses Arisu and ianpatt!

Ok so I didn't have Skyrim Script Extender already installed so at first I was a bit confused at how to install haha (the installation instructions don't mention the need for Skyrim Script Extender and I had never heard of it before so I was confused what they were talking about with SKSE_loader), but once I got that all sorted out I tested the game out with fraps and all cities are MUCH smoother for me now. I'd say I got a solid 10 fps increase. In the trouble spots before I was getting 17-20 fps, now I never drop below 30. It's amazing how much smoother walking through all the cities feel now! Thank you thank you thank you SO much OP!

Though I will say it's a bit of a hassle having to load the game through SKSE_loader every time I want to start the game, but the fps increase is worth it so I can't complain. I hope Bethesda notice this and add it in officially in the next patch.

From Dragonsreach looking down on the top step I went from 40 fps to 17 fps looking straight at the dead tree without the mod.
After the mod I went from 40 fps to 24 fps.

I am running on high settings ( shadows on medium setting ) with these mods.

Better Females by Bella.
Serious HD Retexture Landscape.
High Quality Eyes.
Enhanced Horse Skins.
Blades Sword Retex.
Ultra Smooth Body HD.

My machine is a bit dated but she has been a good one since I built her;

ASUS Croshair, first generation
AMD 9750 quad core
5 gigs DDR3
Nvidia GT 440 video card
WIN 7 64
In my opinion the TESVAL with SKSE has done what it said it would do, can't ask more than that. :thanks:

There must be some reason why they left this optimization out of the final product. I doubt they are nothing but highly skilled professionals after all.

LOL since this mod attacks the CPU-intensive areas, after testing it for hours I'm able to crank up my shadow quality to silly levels with ALOT less cost than before. Shadows are almost sixy again :)

Oh. My. God.

If you need performance in towns, get this mod NOW! Or else you are just a sitting duck!

Thank you for whoever made this, I went from having 20-25 average FPS in Whiterun when I first enter and load to now having an average of 30-40 FPS! :thanks:

I play Skyrim on the console (yeah I know) but I used to play Oblivion on an ancient PC, but because of you great modders out there, I was able to run Oblivion fine. I don't think theres any chance for my PC to run Skyrim, but I hope Beth sees you guys fixing up the PC version and gets some ideas for us out of luck console users.

I had a dragon fly in Solitude that I fought the other day while playing and it was pretty much a slideshow on theXbox 360 (patched 1.3) just under 100 hours total game time.

anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the effort you guys put in.

This makes me wonder how many more code optimizations or stuff like this that are just lying around extremely unoptimized. I wonder...

Some of the changes look like they're replacing long getter method calls like "get value of X in object Y" that trivially reduce into one CPU instruction in most cases. Any half-decent compiler would optimize these automatically even without profile guidance if it was run with the right parameters and the code was properly structured for performance.

Yes, there's going to be more of these. I don't really see how this kind of non-optimization got through unless the game was badly rushed or the PC team had no people with some insight into compiler tech :/

Here are my results using Ultra preset with High shadows @ 1680x1050 (PC specs in sig).

Standing at the gate in Solitude:

Without TESV Acceleration Layer Plugin:

With TESV Acceleration Layer Plugin:

A 15 FPS gain using the plugin and at 37 FPS the game seems smooth to me. 22 FPS is definitely not. Basically, it does what it says and if its stable throughout my game I'll use it and thank profusely the folks responsible.

Edit: Look you guys, I'm just reporting my experience. Never did I say their work was useless.

Hey! I agree, guys, BE NICE. Group Think is a Bad Thing. It's always better to have multiple perspectives and experiences to broaden the discussion. If SoS says his experience is different, then it would be more productive to try to understand why, so that he and others can make other tweaks to improve their gaming experience with Skyrim. Remember, the more people that love and play the game, the more added content and enjoyment we will all get from the mod community and (perhaps) Beth. :grad:

^ ^ this! Last thing we want are people NOT reporting that something doesn't work for them because they are afraid of a gang beating. In order for the game to work better, we need to hear more about the instances where it doesn't work (either because there is something to it, or to verify that it DOES work)

Didn't read any further than that quote, did you. Of course you didn't, else you wouldn't have spouted warm and fuzzy group think platitudes.

OMFG!!!! Sorry, but there is just no other way to express my disbelief. It works. It really, really works.

It just so happens that I left my game in Markarth yesterday where I was seeing horrible, horrible FPS. Normally, I'm rocking 50-60 FPS on Ultra+ (maxed all sliders, too) and Post-Process Injector, except for places like cities, and even then the worst I get is about 27 FPS - the worst. Most often in cities, I'm getting 45+ FPS.

Fast forward to Markath yesterday - my first visit - and I could not believe it, but my FPS dropped into the teens in at least two places. It was awful. I was less than happy to see this after having gotten such good performance everywhere else with the tweaks I've made.

Now today, I come across this thread (thank you Op for pointing it out) and went for it. Started my game in Markath, and immediately saw the difference. In the two worst places where I was seeing drops to 16-19 FPS, I immediately saw that I was getting 27+ FPS at the worst.

Now that alone would have made me much happier. Would prefer >30 FPS everywhere, but I can live with it in just a couple spots. Everwhere else in Markath, I was getting 45+, and normally 55-60 FPS solid. Very nice.

It gets better. Or weirder, depending on your perspective.

The more often I ran back and forth between the two "bad" spots in Markath to test the framerates, the better the FPS became, until finally I was seeing 34+ FPS at the very lowest in the absolute worst spots.

Now how can that be? I suspect were I to leave Markath and come back, I would see the same behavior - starting at around 27 FPS in the worst areas and gradually getting better until I top out around 34 FPS. Something to do with loading / caching the textures, vram, system ram, etc.

I'm sure someone much smarter than me can explain it.

Just thought I'd add to the avanlanche of "BY-THE-EIGHT-I-CAN'T-BELIEVE-HOW-GOOD-THIS-WORKS!!!" responses. :touched: :twirl: :thanks:  :tes: :goodjob: :celebration:

This thread should be stickied on the account of the near universal improvement everyone's getting from it lol...

Apparently there are gains to be had in places like Riften too.. +5 fps for me over there... for peeps that have borderline hardware like mine, 5-6 fps is the difference between playable and not playable.... the margins are razor thin...

Does anyone have any idea how I could get this to work with Simple Border-less Windows mod? Basically I need to execute two executables at once... SBW.exe and skse_loader.exe

I NEED sbw mod because it eliminates my micro-stutter.

Thanks.

I'll chime in. I got a 10-15 fps increase in the "evil" areas in whiterun, and maybe 10fps in Markath. There is still one area in Markath that drops me to 29, but it's a little nuck no-one would ever go in anyway lol.

Can't wait to see how far this mod can go. Thank you for all your hard work, random internet dudes :goodjob:

You can run skyrim in a window, then when it's open, run SBW.exe. That's how I used it in testing :)

I always had a similar effect when testing fps in Whiterun. Coming out of Dragonreach and than walking towards town and looking down would give me 30-32 fps. Fast traveling to Dragonreach and directly turning around: 26 fps...

Now, using AL, I get up to 10 fps more in Whiterun in both cases. In Rifton the effect is less pronounced, depending on where I look between 0 and 5 fps more.
Markarth is around 5, I think.

Pretty cool thing! Great work!
