Thank you for female demo

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 11:38 am

We cant really say the NCR character that is on the cover is a dude, it could be a chick, the armor just conceals it? Or would it be more obvious? I havent seen a female wearing it yet so I cant say for sure.

The female version of the NCR Hermes armor is on the demo Tess is playing during the part where she goes to the Caesar's Legion camp at night and fires the incendiary grenades. :flamethrower:

And I'm thinking on a future game or addon or something, they could put male and female both on the cover, fighting side by side and both reasonably clothed for fighting and surviving in the Wastelands please. :)

Reasonably clothed as in - Not looking like the female character had nothing to wear while the man looks like he's added ten shoulder pads to his arms.

If a female character is going to be shot at then she isn't going to be wear next to nothing, she'll likely wear some kind of protective armour if she can find any.

Exactly...she shouldn't look like a

In my mind, Fallout is a huge step above that.

Unless they've changed things... The male and female figures move on the same skeleton. (this is partly why it looks odd at times.)

that much of a spoiler? Haha.

Yes, it was nice to see that. Also, she had Cherchez La Femme. Made me feel all fuzzy, wonder if that was Tess' decision to include. ^_^

:) Yeah, it's nice that they paid extra attention to small details like the female walking animations. And I'm pretty happy Cherchez La Femme and (I'm assuming) Confirmed Bachelor are actually in the game. I got the feeling that was Tess' personal character, when I saw she had Cherchez La Femme, which made me giggle a bit.

Is there a shorter video? I only have a 10GB download limit and at almost 55 minutes, it's a big download and a big video, I reached my download limit due to some downloads from Live and I have no desire for a huge bill again, already got to pay more than usual this month.

This is a bit of a silly question, but have you tried you tube?

I've tried it and there were no results except for one that was only 3 seconds long. The uploader said he was going to upload it later. The whole thing looked like it was recorded with hypercam lol

Maybe one day you'll even see a female character on the front of the case when gender is optional, you never know... actually, I doubt it. While there are more female gamers the primary demographic is still male and they don't want to alienate I suppose (although I don't see why it would). I enjoyed this though :) Fallout continues to give me a happy - roll on release date! :twirl:

yeah but the problem is that every time theres a female character on a game box, someone will say that its for six appeal (trust me its as inevitable as the F****** tides)

every time i go into GAME with my girlfriend she will ALWAYS pick up a game and say "they only put her on the box for six appeal" (no matter how many times i tell her that Alex vance is a major plot point and a very strong female character)

also, game developers are desperate to get girls into games, i read in the Times news paper that british developers really want female developers but cant get any because they wont apply. Not to mention that games are trying to get rid of the 'boys club' tag. when was the last time you saw a game advert without girls playing it?

ps: im not trying to be mean or horrible here. sorry

It's something that's going to take time to change in regards to that notion, due to the way marketing has always protrayed women on game boxes and in games, as well as the out of date notion that only males play video games.

Hopefully one day such outdated and backwards notions will fade away and female gamers will be accepted by marketing and the rest of the gaming industry and catered towards every bit as much as male gamers are.
Just like male gamers, female gamers play video games for enjoyment, not to be pestered and treated like they have no right to do anything due to narrow minded idiots who are uncomfortable with females beyond their mum.

Isn't that the truth? There's nothing like turning some evil slaver into a pile of ash or goo. Good times.

My lady does NOT like slavery. It'll be interesting to see what faction is worthy. :)

yeah but no matter how much marketing you do, it wont work for most games. most women tend to play 'Casual games' stuff like cooking mama and yo'vile.

i tried getting my girlfriend and some of my female friends into games like fallout and Dead rising so that we could have some common interests, but most of them wouldn't have any of it. they said that they didn't want to play violent games and would much rather play yo'vile and zelda instead.

men and women have different tastes in games and no matter how much id like more women to play games on xbox live, for the most part its not going to happen.

there was a study, can't find the stats, but it came to the conclusion that you have twice as many female players on games that are social (WOW, Farmville etc) than stand-alone trophy games. I would tend to agree with that. I guess if Fallout was multiplayer, even massively multiplayer, then the girl gang would rise exponentially.

Female gamers play violent games as well, there are plenty of female gamers who enjoy shooters for example and do play on Live, COD and Halo tends to be favourites for them.

There are also plenty of female gamers who enjoy an RPG like Dragon Age and Fallout, which Bioware has been surprised by with the number of female fans of Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Most female gamers tend to pose as male so not to be pestered, those who draw attention to themselves mostly do so for the laughs. Female gamers also tend to be a little more open minded with their game interests, I enjoy strategy, RPG, puzzle and non-violent games, but I also play some violent games at times. Other female gamers who enjoy violence have a wide range of games that they enjoy.
If games had more female leads who weren't just there to cater to the outdated concept of being little more than eye candy for males then there would be more female gamers who would play more violent games, but the majority of the time all they see is the usual muscle bound jock with a brain the size of a walnut blasting things with a big gun, and some RPG's just being abig buff manly man like Risen, Arcania and other male focused games.

That can end up being a turn off for many female gamers who would prefer to have a gender choice and be playing as a female character who's delivering the hurt on hapless opponents, instead of the generic male character who's in so much media.
Some female gamers enjoy playing as male, but for the most part a gender choice can make a lot of difference and can attract female gamers towards the game, and if they enjoy the game they tell their friends and so on.

Word of mouth can be pretty powerful and if female gamers are made to feel welcome in the gaming industry and if games started having gender choice more often instead of very rarely, then that word of mouth would mean a lot of profits.
It's the fault of marketing and the constant catering towards males that still lumps gaming with the 'Boy's Club' tag, due to that it's easy for a female gamer to automatically see a game as being yet another male only lead, another generic male focused story with another dull male lead who doesn't attract anyone but males to the game, and the rare female gamer who is willing to stomach playing as a dull male lead so that she can at least have something to play.

Less catering towards males, more focus towards both demographics, more gender choice in games - and not having the female lead/choice being little more than eye candy, a respectful effort and creative effort towards that would be a lot better, new ideas that aren't catered towards males alone, but can be an attraction for both male and female gamers, a more open minded, grown up gaming industry that isn't little more than 'Boy's Club' and an acceptance that gaming isn't just a male thing would make a lot of difference in the long run.
It would also begin to change the way gaming is viewed if it finally grows up beyond the male focus.

My girlfriend played Oblivion and Fallout 3. We play everything from Resident Evil 5, CoD: World at War, CoD: Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption Multiplayer and Demon's Souls together online. There are plenty of female gamers out there, and not all of them are the preening attention seeking harlets that so often get the "limelight" so to speak. I think you're a little too narrow minded just because you didn't meet with success.

I saw something somewhere that said that 25% of all WoW players are female. It also said that a good portion of those women will register under male or gender neutral names to avoid harassment from asshats.

Anyway, I'm trying to watch this video but it's buffering sooo slooow.

I will more then likely play as a female at some point or another. If not for my first playthrough. I do like to see all the angles.

Exactly. The chainmail bikini is a terrible cultural meme that needs to die. Part of the reason I liked Sarah Lyons so much (and Sydney so much, come to think of it) was that they both wore armor over their vital organs.

Now if only Sarah wore a [censored] helmet to protect that head of hers.

Is it different from fallout 3's?

name me a game that has an attractive female character and no attractive male characters.

developers are hiring more and more female developers all the time and increasing numbers games are coming out with a choice in gender for the main character and more and more women are starting to play games. if anything developers are going out of their way to cater for women.

if anything the change has already begun.

BTW 'eye candy' hardly attracts people to games. if that was the case then games such as 'playboy the mansion' , 'dead or alive beach volleyball' and 'BMX XXX' would have been massive hits. but as we all know, they where flops.

men arnt as simple minded as you seem to think. we dont look at a game and think "oooh briasts, must have" were just like you. you look at game-play and story.
