Thank you for female demo

Exactly. The chainmail bikini is a terrible cultural meme that needs to die. Part of the reason I liked Sarah Lyons so much (and Sydney so much, come to think of it) was that they both wore armor over their vital organs.

Now if only Sarah wore a [censored] helmet to protect that head of hers.

Oh, come on. We all know that being badass has it's drawbacks. One of which is that no badass can wear a helmet. That's why none of my characters ever wear headgear. It's the rules. :spotted owl:

My girlfriend played Oblivion and Fallout 3. We play everything from Resident Evil 5, CoD: World at War, CoD: Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption Multiplayer and Demon's Souls together online. There are plenty of female gamers out there, and not all of them are the preening attention seeking harlets that so often get the "limelight" so to speak. I think you're a little too narrow minded just because you didn't meet with success.

i was mealy stating a pattern that i saw and theory for why it happened that way. if i was narrow minded i would have said "women shouldn't play games"

personally i want to see more women play games. it would bring better games with more diverse story telling.

My female character in games that allow such a thing never has any head gear, be it a helmet or a hat, though sometimes I might add a small flower to her hair, sometimes. Adding that kind of innocent look adds a little character if the character is tearing her opponents aprt or shooting them or whatever.

Diversty is in dire need in gaming these days, especially with the amount of war time games out that bring nothing new to the table.

Watch it http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1120933-fallout-new-vegas-developers-chat-livestream-event-submit-your-questions/

They're not kidding about two loud feedback noises towards the end. They're pure destruction, so look out.

Oh god. That scared the hell out of me when that happened. And I was wearing headphones with the volume pretty high up. :shocking:

Guy: So, uh, how are we doing?
PSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSH

Female running animation looks kinda weird.

For the most part, it looked pretty standard to me. But how her wrists were twirling in circles when she ran bugged the heck out of me. What woman runs like that?

thats something that i agree with 200%. im actually boycotting the new call of duty and medal of honour games. they are such over rated games and not to mention the call of duty series has just been the same game over and over again since call of duty 2 and the new medal of honour games is going to be exactly the same as black opps. but just like with films the only games that get made are games that the publisher knows will make money.

i always try to buy games that iv never heard of before. the bargain bin is a treasure trove for that stuff.

I'm boycotting the 'latest' shooters as well, there's nothing to them that tempts me even a little. I got fed up of such games a decade ago, ironically due to the Medal Of Honour series. The only war time shooter I've ever enjoyed was Medal Of Honour: Underground because it was the first, and probably only war time game, to have you playing as a female character who works for the French Resistance.
Every other war time shooter is always the same old male lead, same old story, same old ideas. Also with so much focus on multi player and the single player suffering in such games, then that's another black mark. If I wanted multi player, I would buy a multi player game. I've got Blur and War For Cybertron for that, no desire for a slapped together war time shooter which brings nothing new to a tired genre.

While the COD fans hack, mod and cheat their way through the 'newest' shooter, I'll be happily exploring Albion in Fable 3 and exploring the Nevada desert in New Vegas with a female character and hopefully enjoying some good stories.

Is it different from fallout 3's?

It looked the same to me. Josh demonstrated a lighter touch to pick the lock and he did it so smoothly. I need to practice that so I don't break so many bobby pins. :)

I think this applies to any thread about videogames. I actually think that these days they're trying to appeal to the female audience, but often failing. Other times they're not trying to appeal to the female audience at all: I remember this Sony ad for Uncharted 2 that was so obviously targeted to males that it actually surprised me a little (it was one of the Kevin Butler ads).

But, back on topic, I think that the female animations are alright. I liked the NCR outfit (but then, I liked the male version of that, too). Wasn't like the raider outfits that suddenly turned into bikinis when put on a female character (do they still have those? they shouldn't). Honestly, though, nothing got me more interested in New Vegas more than That Gun- it confirmed what my first playthrough would be- guess I just don't think there will be too big of a difference between playing a male character or a female character in the game.

the only shooters iv bought recently is singularity (and that's because i wanted to explore the horror genre)

im waiting for US developers to choose a new enemy. in every action game now action game now the enemy always seems to be the Russians.

first it was the Nazis. then it was the Russians. id bet money on the next enemy being North Korea. every so often developers will choose a country America don't like and will make them the enemy in every game fighting America (and only america) for about a decade. same goes with film and TV. that's why i like sci-fi, because at-least it differs in story.

also, id like to see a game where the 'Evil' side wins.

(no-offence to any Americans out there)

Due to no gender choice, I've avoided a lot of games this year, too much of the same for me and I'm tired of the lack of imagination, like Alpha Protocol for example - no gender choice for the main lead? Sorry, no say, no play.

Due to the whole 'Americans are the good guys, everyone else is the bad guy' thing that is popular in the US, then being able to be the villian of the piece and to take on the good guys, though the concept of good and evil is pretty abstract life is more a shade of grey when it comes to morals and the actions that everyone takes, then being the villian isn't something that's been done often as a whole.
Like the 'new' Medal Of Honour game and the complaints there were about that.

It would be interesting to see more games offer the chance to be the villian of the piece and get another side to the story, like War For Cybertron for example and Revenge Of the Fallen - the game was a little better than the terrible movie.
Dungeon Keeper was a fun example of being evil.

yeah but no matter how much marketing you do, it wont work for most games. most women tend to play 'Casual games' stuff like cooking mama and yo'vile.

i tried getting my girlfriend and some of my female friends into games like fallout and Dead rising so that we could have some common interests, but most of them wouldn't have any of it. they said that they didn't want to play violent games and would much rather play yo'vile and zelda instead.

men and women have different tastes in games and no matter how much id like more women to play games on xbox live, for the most part its not going to happen.

Most women who play Xbox Live pose as males.
It's only easier. The second everyone finds out that you're female, you get hordes of hormonal teens throwing requests and such at you. But.. anyway. That svcks for you, because where I live, almost every girl I know plays either Halo (Which.. Well.. I don't like to be honest), Or some first person shooter.

On topic, I'm hyped. I only acctually got around to Pre-ordering several days ago, and can't wait. I skipped SOME of the video so that It wouldn't be spoiled for me.. But I giggled at the .. Tape. Creative enough, I guess. xD

I agree that having real-world states and countries as "enemies" in games is offputting. Easy enough to make a "Republic of Niamystan", complete with mad dictator general and mad royal family. Thing is, by making Germany/Russia/China/Ireland the "bad guy", aren't you limiting potential sales in that country?

you've missed out on some good games then, at-least get dead rising 2 (its my currant game of the year, but FONV will probably blow it off the chart)

just because it only has a male lead, doesn't mean its not a good game.

Half Life bored me, not just from the main lead, but because the game was just dull. Dead Rising 1 bored me, the main lead was bland and the second doesn't interest me at all. The only male focused games I can barely stomach now are the Assassin's Creed games since the story interests me. The male leads though - Altair/Ezio and Desmond - are terrible, bland and the games should have had a gender choice to make up for such bland characters.

After years of male leads who are bland and make playing a game a chore, as well as one too many boring stories that cater to the bland male leads more often than not, then I've gotten to the point where if it's a male lead and no gender choice, then I'm not interested. Such games just don't tempt me to spend my money anymore, if developers can't be botherd to do a gender choice/female lead for games that would support it, then I don't see why I should waste my money supporting their lack of imagination.
Also a more personal aspect, which I have no desire to go into detail here, makes it hard for me to play as male leads without emotional distress. I prefer gender choice, a female lead, I can play a game a lot better that way adn role play a lot easier, than in trying to role play as a male character and having no connection to the character, which makes it hard to enjoy the game.

Shooters and JRPG's are two such genres that I've moved away from due to the constant male leads that are always the same.

i put the dull character down to bad writing, not because they are men. but i do agree that it is hard to connect with a character of the opposite gender. although i do tend to play as a female character on a second play through now so that i can have a change in perspective.

also, dead rising 2 is allot better than the first one, the main character has some depth this time :P

I have to agree with this. I never saw the appeal of Half-Life, I found Unreal much more enjoyable (interestingly enough that particular shooter did let you pick your gender and name) and was surprised that Half-Life was the shooter that got all of the GOTY awards back in '98.

You have a point but it might help sales too depending on how its done, however I think the best bad guys are the big greedy corporations instead of nationalities because lets face it everybody proud of their home even if there are flaws, but corporations can represent the evil in faceless uncaring traits of humanity like in Alien, District 9, Blade Runner, Office Space… sorry if off topic there,
More on topic,
Female gamers is the future games want to sell to as many customers as possible so ignoring 50% of people (yes I know its not really 50% but I don’t have the census in front of me) limits sales, so in a way it’s a good thing because more females playing games = more diversity of game options and stuff.

Female gamers are definitely the future, if developers and publishers want to make money then fully branching out and catering to the female gamer at the same time as the male with new ideas, more gender choice in games and more would increase their profits.

Change is good for business and an open mind in terms of your target market is even better.
