The balancing act...

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:09 pm

What I have read all these times of this game on PC and console the consoles, is that the PC has some really cool stuff but why can't the consoles have anything cool and specific? I mean seriously they have the steam workshop it seriously looks as if you HAVE to have the PC version of the game to actually enjoy the game. This a balancing act the falls to one side, and if you looked on youtube you would seriously find that players play on PC 99.9% of the time. It is very discouraging and (not to mention)annoying why don't Bethesda make this 1000 pounder to a 150 pounder like the other side...because it is getting VERY VERY old already...

It doesn't matter in the slightest, IMO. We all have this amazing game to play - why should it matter of PC players have access to mods?

So you don't find it fair that all you have to do is type in a code to make a mod, while people have to literally destroy their console(s) to mod?

There's not really a good way to balance it without adding user modds to consoles (which i fully support).

It would be wrong for Bethesda to go out of there way to exlude the PC gamers from a specific xpack.

So i think the PC will continue to have more content then consoles until user mods become avaliable to all.

Are you saying there is indeed a way to mod with a console?

Please tell me of this, i might be able to deal with the potential risks.

They can't put the mods on the consoles because the console companies don't want mods available, understandably, because they don't want some 12 year old downloading a mod that doesn't work, or that adds in a zillion nekkid women, and then kid's parents either (1) buy the competitor's console next time around because they thought the bug was due to the console, or (2) go berserk and don't buy their kid any more games except G-rated stuff because of the aforementioned naked women.

Or to put it another way, right now they have control over what ends up being played on their games, because console games reflect on the console manufacturer - unfairly, to be sure - in a way that computer games do not reflect on the computer manufacturer. Play a buggy or kid-inappropriate game on your HP laptop, and nobody's gonna blame Hewlett-Packard for it. Play a buggy or kid-inappropriate game on a 360 or PS3, and people unfortunately will blame Microsoft or Sony for it.

How can any of this be "fair" or "unfair"? You bought the game for an agreed-upon price, knowing that there are no mods for console games. How can anything be "unfair" so long as Bethesda fulfills their part of the bargain?

You know, I understand what you were saying but there is a limit but they crossed it beyond our expectations...we console players should have our own workshop called the "Xbox Marketplace" but since they are working on this stupid TESO it changed their priorities.

Then get a gaming computer and stop whining.
Consoles don't have the same potential as PC's, and Bethesda doesn't make mods, players do.
You know what you're getting when you buy the game, they don't owe you compensation for what people outside of their control do.

PCs will always be better for modding than a PS3 or Xbox. It's nothing to do with Bethesda.

I am not "whining" I am merely making a suggestion over personal experience and I am trying to make a point thinking that this topic would clear some heads over here...but I guess I am over-compensating...

I don't know what "thing" you're referring to, but the bargain I refer to is the deal you make when you buy the game. You fork over the money and they hand you a game, as-is. So long as you actually get the game that they agreed to sell you in exchange for money, it's all good. Both sides have fulfilled their side of the bargain, and nobody has any cause to complain.

As for the differences between PC versions and console versions: They aren't obliged to make them the same. It's easy for them to offer PC players a moddable game, and so they do so, knowing that more people will buy the game for that reason. With consoles, it's either essentially impossible (because Microsoft and Sony won't agree to it) or nearly impossible (because Microsoft and Sony would want all mods playtested in-house to avoid errors and/or inappropriate content) and so they only offer an unmoddable version of the game for consoles. So long as they don't lie to you about what they're selling you - and they didn't - you can't point to somebody else's deal and compare it to yours, and claim you got screwed. People who wait a few months to buy the game get a cheaper price for the game, but those of us - like me - who decide to buy the game the first day it's out can't complain about that and say we got "cheated" or that it's "unfair".

Nobody has any reason to complain, PC or console. A deal is a deal, and Bethesda isn't obliged to offer the same deal to all parties, for the reasons I mentioned. There are good reasons why they aren't putting mods on the consoles; just because the PC game has them doesn't mean that they're "supposed" to be on the consoles.

Well I have to say that I can agree with the OP, and you can get a lot of extra and funny stuff out of Skyrim what with quest mods and console commands. My 360 is very bugged, with left behind quests, glitched characters and missing items, and I would do almost anything to just right the wrongs in it with a simple console command. I've been watching AlChestBreach on YouTube and that's more than enough to make me want a PC(but it seems a waste of money just to get one just for Skyrim). And I have to say I have quite a bit of play time for a 360 user. 212 hours. I don't blame Bethesda for the unbalance, since 360 is very restricted already where you can only play the game and nothing else, and PC offers almost complete freedom in creating things out of your mind and sharing them with the world.

From what I have seen it isn't COMPLETELY copying WoW but some aspects are, as with any mmorpg.
