So just browsing PC parts looking to make my own with some money I am about to come into. Here's some of the stuff I am looking at so far.

The PSU is the one I currently have and was going to reuse in my new PC.
I would like to say I shouldn't need to post in this thread since I am a IT technician for the Army but really most of my training is networking(CCNA) and Sec+. I have never built my own PC before appreciate any advice/help without making yet another topic for it.
Not bad, but I must make mention that AMD's Bulldozer line-up is a couple months away and I do highly suggest you to wait a bit if you can. If not, that's understandable too. Bulldozer is AM3+ processor line-up that will compete with Intel's Sandybridge line-up and it will require an AM3+ motherboard with a 900 series chipset to utilize all the CPU's features. There is still some heated debate on whether Bulldozer will work with standard AM3 socket motherboards...some say some Asus boards (thru BIOS update) will but will disable special power-saving features, while others say it won't at all. I say just wait for the boards with the full support if you want Bulldozer. Up to this point, there hasn't been a whole lot of official info given on Bulldozer and compatibility but it is coming.
Now there are a couple AM3+ motherboards on the market that you can consider if you're dead set on getting that Phenom X4 965:

These boards come with the "black socket" that supports AM3+ CPUs. They will also support AM3 CPUs.
I find the Samsung F3 1TB to be more cost effective than that Caviar Black. Not to say it isn't an excellent drive in its own right, but that extra 32MB cache is not really giving you much more:
