My Full HD monitor is failing and I need another one. Should I get a led one or a 120hz one? It has to be at 1920x1080, nothing higher.

Does the screen itself turn on when you press the power button? Like you can tell when it's off and when it's on but just black.

LED monitors are absolutely beautiful.

They look virtually the same as CCFL backlit monitors except for being thinner and with less power consumption, since almost every single one that's a reasonable price is edge-lit.

There are monitors that look much better, that are neither LED-backlit, nor 120Hz.

The ML239H is LED backlit (fortunately). I recommend that to anyone. I have the MS238H and it's great, sicne the ML239H is better (5x the dynamic contrast ratio amd IPS panel) I'm sure it's great. And very cheap for what it offers IMO.

It's edge-lit LED, so it doesn't provide any more contrast than CCFL.

Might not be set to the right input then. Check to make sure it's on the right one, VGA, DVI, or HDMI. Whichever you used to connect it from the PC.

You can do your own googling, but local dimming is why LED backlighting can give such good contrast. You don't have local dimming with edge-lighting. There is no difference between edge-lit LED and CCFL except for a thinner panel and lower power use, and "LED TV/MONITOR" is a great marketing term that gets people interested, because most people are uninformed about what an "LED screen" really is.

Don't IPS panels have the black crush problem?

I believe that is PVA (possibly MVA too) panels. IPS suffer from low contrast ratios.

I know the difference  I ment the source that the ML239H is edge led, it doesn't say anything on ASUS's site.

P.S: Everywere it just says "LED Backlit LCD" which doesn't really show wheter it's edge led or local dimming. I mean you can assume that if they're not advertising local dimming it uses edge led but usually companeis say when it's edge lit

It's probably safe to assume that if it had local dimming LED backlights they'd make it known, as it would be a selling point and justify a higher price for the model.

Why do so many new monitors lack DVI ports?

Well I know the Asus website advertises different things for different models. Like the "eco friendly" monitors that have only two LED backlights instead of four to save power. I'm sure they'd tell you if it was edge vs. back on there, if you wanted to brave their billion models of monitor. :P

Edit: Infact the Asus site says that ML239H is backlit.

Hdmi is becoming sort of the norm? Besides, I can almost guarantee you any monitor that lacks a dvi port will come with an hdmi to dvi adapter.

Well lots of small monitors have only D-Sub ports, aka VGA. I don't know why myself. I'd kill for a 19" monitor that had a HDMI port for my PS3, as well as a DVI or HDMI port for my PC. Or two DVI ports because DVI is the same exact thing as HDMI minus the audio.

But nobody anywhere makes them. It's like looking for non-widescreen monitors. They don't make them anymore.

Hollywood effectively killed off VGA (and all other http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/anolog_hole), in 2 years no monitor is going to come with it.

Okay, I need help scouring for a new notebook. Er, well. Doesn't have to be NEW. Right now I'm willing to spend around the 150-250USD range, going up a bit if necessary. The screen size would be nice to be at around 14-15 inches. As for specs, I'd like it to be decent for things such as general use(browsing, im clients, java) and the occasional bit of media. The OS matters not because I'll just wipe the drive and install Xubuntu or something. I'd like enough memory to make things work. I was thinking 1-2GB. HDD space I'm not sure about, really. Can't be picky in the price range i'm looking for. xD Help would be very much appreciated. I'm expecting something used, but I'd like it to be trust-able still. haha.

My monitor has color tint issues with HDMI. The VGA port doesn't have this problem, but I'd rather go digital.

The old monitor didn't have any color problems with VGA or DVI ports.
