The lack of an "Oh Crap!" enemy is a bit disappointi

But General you're optimal example is exactly whats going on in Skyrim, some are static, some are leveled, but what is and what isn't is jumbled and don't really make a whole lot of sense.

Dragons the big bad bosses of terror are scaled to fit you no matter what, and yet the Bumbling troll at one of the highest remote sections of Skyrim that is High Hrothgar is static and can beat tail. so whats going on here, why does everything else as well as the main attraction that is Dragons so constrewed?
But it isn't what's going on in Skyrim, although it is close. there are no opponents that are remotely challenging for a high-level character in top-end gear, which is one of the provisos of my statement.

By the way, if you think that Dragons are the big baddies, then you haven't fought their Priests yet.

As the miner said "You should go another way!" i was like "Haha no way i go this way!" I was really well equipped with a 9mm Pistol  saw a Deathclaw - fired and O.o didn't i hit it?? fired again....recognized OMG....i can't hurt it!! Ruuunnn but it was faster then me -.-

Yeah the Cazadores were ridiculous too.

As an extension of the OP; while I am really enjoying Skyrim and don't have any real complaints, nothing in this game "scares" me like some things in FO3 and FO:NV did. Maybe it is just the setting, Fantasy vs Post Apocalyptic, that makes the FO stuff seem scarier.

I really enjoy both FO3 and Skyrim.

The atmosphere of FO3 ( haven't played NV, but may when the Ultimate Edition comes out 2-17-12) was a very dark, bleak and dire one. I was jumpy traveling through the metro tunnels even though I'd travelled them many, many times and had cleared them out.

Skyrim by comparison is much more beautiful and uplifting. It still has its dark areas, but overall the sense of doom and gloom is not there the way it is in FO3.

Atmosphere is very important to me in a game. My favorite games all did an excellent job of creating good atmosphere. I think the "Oh Sh*t" moments owe alot to the environment in which they occur.

I wish they made dragons the "deathclaw" of Skyrim. They were at low levels, but once you reach past 40, like you mentioned, it gets pretty easy. They quickly turned from awesome to disappointing. I love the game for many reasons, just not this one...

Remember the first time you ran into a Deathclaw in Fallout 3...or the more vicious Deathclaws of New Vegas? You always had that [snip ]reaction. Aside from early level run-ins with sabre tooth cats, you don't really get much of that in Skyrim. Once you hit level 40, you can pretty much annihilate everything in your path. In Fallout, you were never really strong enough, aside from using major explosives, to just totally destroy Deathclaws without a sweat. I guess the fact that you can make your character extremely overpowered via enchanting and smithing plays a big role in that. It's a bit disappointing.
Really now. One shot to the head with my alien blaster killed deathclaws in both games.

A Master Vampire was a real pain to kill just earlier today for me at level 39, Frost Dragons still hold a bit of kick to them but Elder Dragons if I'm not wearing my best gear are a reasonable challenge.

Doesn't matter which level I am, spiders always give me the same feeling the deathclaws gave me.

This is true. I'll list the Alien Blaster in my "major explosives" category. Stealth was also a good way to kill them.

If you have Spellbreaker on top of that. Dragons basically do zero damage.

I guess I'm lucky I'm not as skillful a gamer as you guys becuase I get that feeling all the time. Now I don't have any characters 40 plus level ( most in 20s a few low 30s) yet but you know by that point you should feel pretty confident.

40 seems to be the magic number for me for my mage mistress and melee warrior. I'm really not all that skilled either to be honest with you, but it got waaaaaaay easier after 40. Had to bring the difficulty up to expert. It also depends on your perk distribution and if you focused primarily on combat oriented perks. Once you start unlocking upper level perks from the perk trees like shield runner, power attack bonuses, and expert level magic, you can really lay a hurt on enemies.

Dragons, especially named ones should have been way harder, and presented more challenges than just a larger hit box and flying. They should have been the premier enemy, that turns shouts against us by using many of them, including some players may never get access to.

They really needed to be tough enough with their shouts, to hit home the fact that only we could stand a real chance against them. Alduin in particular should have been the dragon equivalent of our character power and ability wise.

This is off-topic, but I have to say that's a cool avatar pic, re123. I used that spell many times over the years. Especially back before they made the A.I. actually react to it.

I don't understand what you are saying. I have that feeling many times in skyrim. The giants and mammoth was scary and i can never fight them unless I'm high enough level. I'm level 28 and I still fear them cause they are still hard to kill. Again.. This is not fallout. Both games are completely different. Ones in mid ages and the other in the future..... Fallout 3 and fallout new vegas is easier than skyrim because I can just plant 100 mines and I can kill almost anyone...

I have the "oh ****" feeling just as much in Skyrim, and felt just as godlike toward the end of a Fallout game. Not sure what the OP is talking about.

I guess I was just never has overpowered in Fallout as others have been, but with enchanting and smithing maxed you can make yourself nearly invincible, but I'm not complaining about that. I just don't feel that the game has a Legendary Deathclaw type monster that can come out of nowhere and swipe you two times and have your dead body flying away to smack against a rock.

None of my characters ever reach a 'high' level. Of the many characters I have made and played I think the highest I ever achieved was lvl 35. Most only make it to the high teens.

I use a mod that slashes skill advancement in half making levelling MUCH slower and my characters only usually complete one quest line each.

I will probably make a final character here soon that might try to be a jack of all trades and do and find everything, but honestly the game is so much more fun at low levels. When I become overpowered, I become bored and usually look to restart.

Dwarven centurions definitely gave me that moment the first time I met one. The master versions are still giving me a run for my money.

Dwarven Sphere Masters. *shudder* That thing killed my poor mage so many times.

Opening doors with Chaurus Reapers standing directly behind them tends to be short lived too.

When you kill a dragon, and then a previously unseen giant leaps out of the glowing fog to play baseball with you is a bit of one too.

I killed the Legendary Deathclaw before it even knew Iwas there, either by sniping or Annabelle rockets, so it was never a big dread thing. Cazadors were more trouble.

I agree with you. I made a Breton battlemage type character and got her to level 32 or so, with max enchanting and smithing and made an awesome mace for her to use, and then basically stopped playing her.

Beats the hell out of Oblivion, where some of the same enemies are STILL beating your ass 10 levels after your first encountered them. I especially hated how ogres scaled to your level indefinitely.

Magic/Elemental resists makes all dragons ez.
And since fallout only had "physical damage", a fully power armored guy with 85% resistance could take on anything as well.

And it was very easy to get a maxed out character in fallout 3, 100 in every skill and 10 in every SPECIAL-stat. On top of that, 85% damage resistance and a huge HP pool.
