The long string of recent hacking attacks.

I find it impressive how many Twitter followers they have now. They gained about 125,000 since I first saw them on there......a little over 10 days ago.

well, I see it as wise: they announce what they are going to go after before they do a lot of times, so if you have an account on site X, you'd have time to change the personal info before they go after it.

When I read about this I created a twitter account so I could follow these idiots; them and Anonymous. I've commented on them, too. Of course they are ignoring me. They probably blocked me after the first thing I said to them. I guess I started off a bit too strong. See my comments at www.twitter.com/steegersrelish

The more I read about these guys, the less I dislike them.

They opened up a phone number to call them, anyone here calling them yet?

Edit- Also, this goes along with the thread nicely. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=13823717 (Though not Lulzsec related)

I would if it wasn't for the fact that I'm expecting it to be something like a six talk line or something along those lines.

Not really much proof, that article even explains that collecting the reward would have been likely to compromise their identities.

Yeah if anything it proves they're not complete idiots.

Apparently it's also too late at night to spell my name properly :P (though at least it is a very fitting misspelling)

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1162786-data-privacy-day/

Sorry . And yes, it was rather appropriate :P.

and yet in the midst of all of this people are using online data backup and storage. does anyone ever stop to think just who is behind all these companies that seemed to spring up out of nowhere to offer to take your data and store it. my how nice of them. <_<

the guys a the NSA and FBI must be laughing their asses off at all those dupes.

Well... if you use strong enough encryption, it should be reasonably safe. But very few people are that security concious/savvy, of course.

Really, though, this needs to all be a wakeup call to the industry: You are NEVER too small to be a target.

Security through obscurity only really works if no-one knows you exist... which doesn't sound like a good business strategy :P.

On the topic of them not using information for profit: The group may not, but does every single member of it share that ethic?

Just goes to show people, the Internet is serious business.

And yet Sony was the only one who had to suspend services for an entire month. Harrumph!

Okay, it didn't actually affect me much, but it could have!

LulzSec didn't hack PSN. Sony was audited by the Payment Card Industry and Japan's gov't wouldn't let the turn on the Asian servers without looking into it either.

I'm just concerned about the effect these strings of hacking could have on alternative news media.

Honestly, best option is for everyone to send a password reset email to their email address. After the attacks, if you find you can't login (or go look around pastebin and sites of the like to see if you can find your login info that may have been publicly posted), just activate the password reset email and you win. They won't be able to get your steam account seeing as your Steam account login info isn't associated with Brink. They're probably only going to be able to get your user name. Your password for Steam is only associated with Valve's Steam servers which Bethesda and ZeniMax do not have access to, and seeing as Valve isn't their target (and they seem like the kinda kids that wouldn't really wanna go too out of their way to leak personal info) I doubt we really have to worry about our steam accounts. This attack is more geared toward the insides of Bethesda and ZeniMax corp.

These guys wanna leak Skyrim badly. I bet money on it.

I know they didn't hack PSN. I was just thinking about the other hacking incidents listed in the OP that weren't perpetrated by Lulzsec. So the Payment Card Industry was responsible for keeping PSN down for a month?

Oh, who knows, it's in the past now. *sigh* I don't even like my free game.

Regarding my earlier post, I forgot that Brink runs off of Steamworks which could quite possibly allow them access to accounts credentials. So yeah, protect everything linked to Brink.

Well, when you are a virgin, get beat up a lot in school, can't play any sports, can't get a real job, and can't move out of your parents' house in your 30's, this is what you do apparently. I'd love to meet one of those geeks in real life. In fact I'd love to meet them all in real life. What a bunch of cowardly losers.

You know that this is the exact kind of response they're looking for right?
