I'm not sure if this constitutes as a spoiler so don't condemn me mods,
Spoiler
I'm sure as many know the brotherhood of steel is warring with NCR and I think it can be assumed we cannot join them... what do you all think of this do you think they should be a joinable faction? if not do explain, because I understand they aren't the pansy BOS from the East Coast

Umm... BoS are mostly out of the picture, CL is warring with NCR at the moment.
God. I hate when people say new player(you know what I mean), so [censored] (excuse me) annoying.
And I don't think calling people who have only played Fallout 3 new players(again) will go by well with moderators.

Not to trample on your FO3 hate, OP, but the eastern Brotherhod is functionally a different organization at this point. If anything they're the ones calling the shots in the Brotherhood now, given their possession of LIberty Prime, Vertibirds and massive amounts of Enclave tech.

The real Brotherhood out west would destroy them. The east coast one is a joke with shoddy equipment.

Let's review the facts, shall we?
West Coast Brotherhood is on the ropes after years of war with the NCR. And yes, prior to the events of Broken Steel, the West Coast Brotherhood certainly had the upper hand in terms of strength.

However, post-Broken Steel, the huge quantities of Enclave tech the Eastern BoS possesses (vertibirds, massive amounts of energy weapons and advanced armors, etc) should outstrip anything the West Coast has post-war with the NCR, and that's without factoring in Liberty Prime.

But, I think the West Coast BoS are almost out of power, the NCR are over taking them. Do they even have a role in New Vegas. Also, I could see the East Coast Brotherhood joining ranks with the NCR, then they'd be incredibly powerful.

It has also been confirmed that one of the recruitable NPC companions will be a scribe from the BoS. Her name is Veronica Santangelo (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Veronica_Santangelo).

If the west coast Brotherhood can't even win a war with a bunch of wastelanders, I'm inclined to disagree.

Not to mention the fact that destroying the east coast Brotherhood would require taking their mint-condition plasma rifles out of their original packaging.

Liberty Prime.

You keep on using that name but I'm not sure if you know he's dead.

PS: I will definitely help the BoS destroy the NCR if I can.

I've seen the BoS in New Vegas. They're not to be screwed with. The war with NCR has just made them more dangerous. An animal backed into a corner is nothing to screw with.

Western BoS rules. I wish you could join them this time around.

I don't know about the Legion - their costumes and slaving are a bit iffy to me - but any enemy of the NCR is a friend to me. Effing civilization - the wastes were meant to stay wastes.

Did you play Broken Steel?

The NCR BoS war is indeed over, with the Brotherhood having lost badly. It's been said that the Brotherhood are in hiding from the NCR, having taken up residence in a bunker out it the Mojave wasteland, and that there is a chance that you might not even run into them in your game.

I'm sure that changes when you have Veronica as your companion, but yeah, the brotherhood most likely won't have a tremendous role in the game.

What? The NCR has never been to the Capital Wasteland, and we know that the BoS are out-numbered in the Mojave.

You keep on using that word but I'm not sure if you know he's dead.

I think he was being reconstructed when we left off, but they probably have gotten far with two legs and a head, and a [censored]load of cameras and sensor modules (that I provided :) ). At this point though, I think they could beat what is left of the West Coast Brotherhood, especially if they side with the NCR.

The last of the Maxson bloodline is currently safe and sound out east. If old man Lyons does his job right with the boy, and the CW, the east coast BoS is going to be a force of their own in 20 years.

That depends on what you have it backed into a corner with. As far as I can tell, in this case, the animal is a Yorkshire Terrier and the person forcing it into the corner is carrying a gatling gun.

Sorry dudes, I'm one of those new-ish (but not quite a total FO3 noob), but I thought the reason why the BoS was an inferior fighting force when faced in a numbers vs. numbers situation, was because the strict philosophy of the West Coast BoS was "We only share our technology with those who we think are worthy", and-

-If you take the plotline of Fallout:Tactics (which yes I understand that FO:Tactics was not meant as an official storyline continuation) then you see that the founding BoS members of prototype BoS settlements further east, but still in the Western US, were in fact rebels who rejected that exclusive philosophy: they decided to teach anyone capable of all BoS technology.

-And maybe this is another reason that the BoS-NCR war ended in the Nevada region.

I doubt FO:NV is too involved with any BoS plot, but I would love if the game were large enough to allow an alternative to the House/NCR/CL triad plot. I'd love to take down the NCR by helping to restart the original BoS goals. I mean in general I find the House faction the most boring by far, other than they control the only large-scale power generating facilities in the entire region. The Strip itself, I mean the casino stuff, bores me to tears.
