It is strange. Fingers crossed for Thief 4 eh. I'm not too sure about what they've done with Deus Ex though.
I'm worried more about Thief 4 than I am about Deus Ex 3, to be frank. IMO, Thief benefited heavily from its simplistic approach to stealth. These days, though, I fear it would try to cater to Splinter Cell fans, as well as fans of generally "modern day stealth". I'm talking things like extremely conveniently placed guards for context-sensitive stealth actions, lots of high tension chase sequences, turning Garret into an unrealistically superhuman badass, and using a fullscreen filter to indicate the player is hidden, rather than using a light gem.
That's not even counting the horror aspect, something I really, really like in the Thief series. What if they go for a strictly human cast of opponents or, even worse, try to mix in a rivalry drama between Garret and some other thief (Oh dear god, don't do this)? I don't know about some people, but I'd much prefer him deal with the undead, demons that seem to come straight out of hell itself, etc., but not overdoing it. In past games, these types of foes were only encountered in places it would make sense to, so a full-out "monsters invade the city" plot would svck as well.
But eh, it's a bit too soon to start worrying all that much about it. That went a bit off-topic anyway.
