The Thieves Guild svcks

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:06 pm

The other stupid thing is the one guy nearest the ratway keeps saying that he doesn't care if you are friends with the guild leader you better not make trouble after you are already guild leader.

This is actually game-wide, faction-wide, guild-wide. As much fun as I have with this game, this one thing SERIOUSLY annoys me.

...except, perhaps, for the fragrant Aela...
Hunter? Ancient Nord Armor? Probably "not" fragrant. I'll give you "musky", but not "fragrant". Speaking of the Companions: I had no f-ing idea that they sent you to beat up chicks until I read a recent thread. :o ...on both of my playthroughs (one dude and one chick) I was sent to beat up the male 'inn keeper' at the Sleeping Giant Inn.

Yeah, all the guilds are weird with their lack of respect/recognition, but I was just addressing the TG. :P I try not to be too critical of the questlines because I know how difficult it is to code multiple interwoven paths that we might take. I just think that a simple if dragonborn==leader; then respect==1 could be implemented.

And, FWIW, I run the DB. Have they been insulting you? I won't tolerate that...unless someone paid them to insult then that's just business.

You basically have to keep turning down missions just to get the ones you need. It's pretty dumb the way it's laid out and it comes after you are already supposed to be guild leader. It was also boring because all the missions were the same. They should have had more unique, fun missions there.
Yeah, I wish they would tell us what jobs they have to offer so we could select for two reasons:
1) the reason you mention so you can get the Small Jobs done for the Special Jobs
2) I don't like to victimize marks that I happen to like

This is actually game-wide, faction-wide, guild-wide. As much fun as I have with this game, this one thing SERIOUSLY annoys me.
For now I'm chalking this up to maintaining a reasonable (I'm trying to be nice. :P) stability before Bethesda cements our actions in expansion questlines.

I like having the Skeleton Key. One day I'll give it up .... but not today.

Yes ... the Thief questline is great just to carry around the Skeleton Key on all other quests.

I was going to say I agreed W/Zydrate, then it occurred to me something else. There are two types of thieves in the world, the thief that does so out of necessity, to feed/care for his family, because he has no other way of surviving. But here in the US, we don't see many of these. We more often see thieves that do so because they don't want to work hard for their stuff, they want to cheat and get it the easy way - that's greedy - they usually don't stop when they have only what they need, they want it all. My two cents about this debate.

You forgot the 3rd Type. The Thief that steals from the rich and give to the poor!

If I'm not accused of hating Skyrim, I'd definitely say the TG is lacking in all aspects.

Especially when you're leader... does Sapphire ever tell you her real name, or does she continue to treat you like a day 1 noob?

I'm telling Nocturnal.

Let me talk to you for a few minutes...we can make that two cents into four cents for a small investment. :deal:

Isn't that the IRS? :P

She gets a little nicer and more respectful, but I have yet to learn her real name.

I suspect Bethesda has something planned in expansions for the TG.

I don't get why you care about her real name, personally. Who cares? If she does her job, that's ALL you need to know.

It's all about principle, I apologize if my desires affect your gameplay.
Being the leader should pretty much force everyone to like & respect you, dontcha think? The guild's like a brotherhood. Hopefully everyone can operate together, sing songs, hold hands, etc. There's no need to suddenly hate the proven hero-leader, and never warm up to him/her.
Plus, it only makes sense that she should be romanceable.

I accidentally Killed Sapphire when I first enter Riften. It was when I accidentally shouted instead of run... Yeah. She was mad and I killed her by instinct of defending myself.

Clearly, you don't really have any idea how criminals work.
Specifically, thieves.

....And you....do?
Tf does that say about you? xD

Anyways on topic....
I thought the Thieves guild was disappointing too. I mean, in Oblivion, you're basically following in the footsteps of a long line of thieves that started with a man who gave Nocturnal the middle finger and stole her cowl right from the top of her head. THAT? That takes balls. That's cunning, that's daring, that's dramatic and that's impressive.
In Skyrim? It's the other way around. You're serving Nocturnal. You're trying to STOP the thief who has the most balls by being some sub-servant pawn to a god. It's really kind of disappointing, for anyone coming from the past Elder Scrolls titles, where the top thieves in Morrowind and Oblivion were impressively skilled and honored.

Just my opinion. If I'm gonna be a thief, I seek glory. Instead, from the looks of it I was forced to hunt down the guy that had similar goals to me...

*rolls eyes* Um. No. I don't "romance" underlings. That's just a REALLY bad idea. And again, how is knowing her real name going to make her more desirable? Regardless, of course your oddities don't affect my gameplay, what a SILLY thing to say about a SPMR game.... but then again, if you post on a public forum you're going to have to deal with the way others see those oddities, aren't you....?

And you just named off one of the many reasons why I kept the Skeleton Key.

Not knowing her real name is kinda a good way to bring romance into it. It'll make you wonder more about her then having to talk to her about her past and learn about her. Eventually, you guys will fall in love and then, at your wedding, she tells you her name.. Would make a good movie, if used correctly!

I try, I try. I was thinking about chillin' in one of those support groups.
If it doesn't work out, maybe I can get "da hookup."

ummmmm anyway, it's all about options. More romance options, or quests, or conversation branches (like my name is...), is always a good thing.
To quote Mel Gibson, it's all about "freedom." Except he screamed it.

I don't need "romance" type of things. NOT my thing at all. I don't do followers (human or otherwise), or spouses. Eww. I really REALLY dislike that sort of stuff in games. Fortunately in this game it can be simply ignored.

I was just playing devil's advocate to the other poster.

Hmm. I personally like romance in games. Makes it more interesting. To each its own mind.

I've had a few accidents like that. ...but I reload a previous save.

Why not? You can make underlings do 'stuff' or fire them if they don't. :nono: I'd like to know her real name - it conveys a sense of trust I guess.

I didn't care much for her so I didn't bother. But her body doesn't disappear... Good thing is there is a good dumping spot in Riften!

Since she softens a bit after you do the TG stuff I'll cut her a break on my chick, but not on my dude. I treat people how they treat me and she starts off nasty so...

She's on my list of "Alts" that I'll kill after Bethesda is done releasing expansions.

I just drop the generic "Thief"s into the canol. Is there a better "dumping spot" about which I don't know?

I use the canol, specially for those generic Thieves.

I use to like Fable but not anymore. I hate having to worry about getting corrupted and all that stuff. I also HATE how they added guns in Fable II..... Guns and Magic shouldn't mix, if you ask me.
