I'm with you there. Not terrible, but honestly didn't do the book much justice. Alan Moore isn't a stupid man, if he doesn't want his art turned into a movie, people oughta listen. I know he doesn't own any of that old DC stuff anymore, but that shouldn't matter as it's only a sign of how greedy the studios were and that the artists were naive business people. Image Comics exists almost solely because of this kind of manipulation (studios owning creations instead of the artist) and look at all the great product that came out of those offices right after they formed. I'm getting off topic now, but Hollywood regurjitating every comic franchise that ever made money just rubs me the wrong way.
I was actually listening to an interview by a critic or someone in cinema on the radio. basically he goes into how hollywood evolved from an artistic cinema to becoming a more business corporaton. how in cinema its important to take risks and to expand on our art and culture. but the business approach to it has people just wanting to make more money and taking o risks, this means making sequels, prequels, and remakes out the wazoo because they know there going to get a demographic into the movie one way or another and afraid of creating something new.
Also talks about how they want to get all movies to appeal to all audiences so that they can get overall more money. Like how movies multi-task by having many themees like trying to be a comedy, action, romance, and such that it overall destroys the movie by not sticking with a general tone. So the movies go all over the place. I mean it can be done, but rarely.
