These forced third-person features... are they here to stay?

I know it's just personal opinion, but...

As someone who consistently plays the game in 1st person (only switching to 3rd to admire my character and do screenshots), I much prefer the 3rd person finishers. The 1st person ones look really awkward, while the 3rd person ones (complete with slow-mo and blur) make my character look all badass and epic. Great stuff. If we had to be stuck with only one type of finishers (1st OR 3rd), I'd vote for just 3rd every single time.

Just goes to show how different opinions can be. :)

edit: can't give feedback on horse riding or werewolf. I don't do either. I do wonder what the die-hard 1st person folks think of all the other 3rd person parts - like crafting, mining, sitting in chairs (which I remember also being like that in Oblivion. Don't remember if sitting down was 3rd person in Morrowind.)
Yet is that to say you applaud the lack of a toggle option for such features?

a mod will fix that :)

The finishing moves, they get old. I wouldn't mind the option to disable them.

The werewolf 3rd person view needs to go. Simply do not care for it.

Horses? Well, i just don't like staring at big, jiggly horse booty when I'm trotting through the woods. Creeps me out.

3rd person all the way! Keep them, they are great.

There is nothing sillier than looking at your sword handle shoved at your face (it's more realistic for kids these days). First person= cooler, you know CoD etc.

I don't mind third person. Honestly, the game starts you out in first person view- and the majority of the game you can play through it as such.
I have no clue why they force it in werewolf form, and I was really depressed to learn I couldn't 1st person view while riding OR that I couldn't
use my bow/magic/sword on one either.

That said, third person views aren't bad, even for TES games, it just hasn't been done RIGHT yet. And I think Skyrim is a step in that direction,
if only but a baby step.

No, just giving a general opinion, and a response to the several times I've seen "I wish it was only 1st person finishers in 1st person".

Toggle? Sure, go ahead. But I wouldn't be in favor of a "finishers match your view" forced system - as I mentioned, I think the 3rd person ones are much better than 1st. Being stuck with just the 1st ones would be disappointing.

You know what finishing moves annoy the hell out of me? Decapitations. With a mace. How exactly does a mace cut someone's head off? I was expecting you to be able to crack their skull open or something instead their heads pop clean off and leave me going lolwut. Very immersion breaking.

Considering that most finishing moves seem to have both first and third-person animations, I should have thought a simple toggle to either allow "all first-person", "all third-person", or "a mix" would have been rather simple to implement. That's my gripe with that issue specifically... that it's forced to be a mix.

It's a load of crap.

TES has always primarily been a first-person series. For me, that's one of the most appealing things about it. It's something that separates the series from the countless mainstream RPGs and open world action-adventure games out there which favour third person.

I can appreciate that they want to improve third-person mode as an option for some players, but it feels as though they've spent so much time doing this that they've completely neglected first-person mode. And unfortunately, I can only see it getting worse with the next game. :(

3rd person finishers look just as horrible and are just as disorienting and annoying to me (a 3rd person gamer) as they are to you. I have my camera angle and distance exactly the way I like it...and then the game yanks the camera away and suddenly I'm in a completely different position relative to my character. It's dizzying and disorienting to a 3rd person gamer like myself. Often it's so close up to the action I can't understand what I'm looking at. In fact, I've been tempted to play in 1st person because I often think the extreme close-up finishing move camera distance was coded for 1st person players. It certainly wasn't coded with 3rd person gamers in mind. I haven't yet used a horse so I can't comment on that.

If Bethesda's goal was to do something for 3rd person gamers - and I sincerely doubt it - they failed miserably.

what...when you become a werewolf it makes you play in third person? WTF! I had zero complaints about this game but WTF! I don't even want to be a werewolf anymore! The entire reason I like this game is because its first person unlike other RPGs. Such a buzzkill

when i first found out that i was going to be a werewolf i had flashbacks to morrowinds awesome werewolf experience......only to find out that i ended up having to play a mature version of a nintendo platform game. now i dont bother ever using the power since its so annoying. i havent used a horse yet since they still have the run speed so high but i used first person horse riding all the time in mount and blade and oblivion had first person horseriding so i dont see why they didnt put that in. the finishers are just odd. ive gone over two hours without seeing a single finisher and ive also had multiple finishers one right after another when im travelling between towns. (i dont use fast travel unless its something waaaaaay on the other side of the map and i use the carraiges for the majority of that). im curious as to what formula they use. personally i dont mind the first person ones and if they are rare they are a nice little treat but having experienced multiple finishers in a matter of minutes i know for certain that if the entire game played like that all the time i would have to literally stop playing skyrim until it was modded out, they bug me that much. i cant wait to mod out the forced third person view, its just as annoying as the slow mo kills in fallout were. at least they were toggleable in that game.

im very confident that its something that can easily be set to zero percent or diabled out right in the GECK. so in the long run im not to worried about it. i really hope somone figures out how to fix the werewolf issue though since that is probably the biggest let down ive had in the game so far.

I get forced into 3rd person for finishing moves almost every time I get it.
Maybe 10% of the time I'm lucky and get to keep 1st person.
I don't get why they implemented this in the first place. They could at least limit the moves to what you prefer. If you play in 1st person you should get 1st person cams all the time.

The only really annoying forced-third person thing for me is horse back riding. Can't stand it.
I agree. It seems odd that Bethesda made a game where you can customise your character, customise how you play the game, hell, you can even customise the control setting to your liking (a rare treat on console) but they force the gamer to go into 3rd person view with the horse and other things.

Its alright for those that choose to play the whole of Skyrim in 3rd person as they can do that if they want but 1st person only fans dont get that choice.I wish Bethesda would at least say something about why they did this and if and when an update or patch will be released that gives the gamer a choice on this issue

I love the 3rd person finishers. The 1st person ones confuse me for a second since I'm not sure what's going on...my char is just flailing around. 3rd person looks awesome. However, I can't stand forced 3rd for werewolves. I can't attack, so whenever I'm in a fight as a wolf, the enemy always strafes behind me and I'm swinging at empty air. Every. Single. Time. 3rd is tough to control for me, so I'd like it to not be forced there.

Finishing moves only last a second. Forcing 3rd person the whole time you're on horseback was unfair. In Oblivion the first person horseback view was fine. If it ain't broke...

Exactly, I really don't understand the reasoning behind forcing us to go into third person during these.

maybe because it got like.... 10 times more detail? maybe that is something a programmer does think about?

i seriously don't understand how some CAN'T understand why there is a 3rd person view for finishers

When in third person the finishing moves are always in third person.
When in first person the finishing moves are random (1st or 3rd).

And as I said before, most third person animations also exist in first person.

I don't understand Bethesda, honestly.

Wrong. Lately i've been finding out that when you execute a finisher in third person there is also a chance that the finisher will happen in first person too. Kinda svcks realy.
