They really need to nerf enchanting and alchemy

Post » Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:25 pm

I'll admit I grinded. But I don't consider it an exploit. I payed a pretty penny for the mats to grind.

Most mages do nothing. The only ones who can really get me are the ones who spam Ice Storm.

I wanted weapons that were more powerful, but not two-shot powerful.
Then don't make them that strong. I've never had that problem unless I used the alchemy enchanting loop. If that is truly your problem then maybe you have some fortify gear on.

Take that off and they won't be as strong. The point still stands that you made them that strong and now your complaining that they are too strong.

Oh, but I never smith Daedric up to Legendary. Then it just becomes ridiculous. I never improve Daedric stuff, nor Ebony. I never use Dwarven or Orcish because they look ugly, IMO.

Orcish weapons are actually worse than Steel almost. Dwarven are pretty gross looking IMO unless you're using daggers.

My preferred armor is Nightingale. >.>

You make a fair point. It still irks me, but I concede.

Nerf yourself if it bothers you. I never grind, never use fortify loops, and my game is balanced just fine.

There should be caps on how much something can be fortified. like smithing cap at 50%, same for alchemy and enchanting,
So lets say i have 3 pieces of armor, all of them fortify smithing by 25% each. it would be capped at 50. same goes for alchemy and for potions of fortify enchanting.
Also clothing should be able to hold stronger enchantments. such as an enchantment can be stonger than normal if it is put on clothing or circlets ( something with a 0 armor rating)
umm.. not to be rude but please GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY ENCHANTING TABLE!!!

sheesh.. bad enough enchanting and alchemy got gutted already, ya want them to nerf it more? If you don't want to jack your smithing to godlike levels then don't. easy peasy lemon squeasy. If some one has reached the end game (50+ and already done most of the non-repeatable quests) and they want to make some all powerful toys, let them. they've put in the time and effort to earn it anyway. Ask for something useful like more recepies for the Atronach Forge so we can make our own spell books, staves and scrolls.

On that subject I think that would be a wonderful way to implement spell making. Not that i think it will happen, I started with skyrim and I just started playing oblivion and haven't gotten to make spells yet. But I think it would be cool.

Anyone got a loc on where the smithing changes can be checked out?

I just looked at the patch history and I can't find anything on it, therefore I have no idea what you guys keep saying about "smithing was nerfed already". I never bothered with it till recently so I'm clueless :(

Yes I agree that clothing should be able to have the strongest enchantments. I also thing that the fortify weapon damage enchants are a bit too strong. I only have two of them on my character who is level 50 and she's destroying things left and right on Expert.

Have you tried not using the enchants, then? Because other people seem to like them just fine, and this would seem to be a matter of individual taste. Myself, I just use them, and crank up the difficulty.

I quit playing my level 50 dual swords warrior because I could 2 shot dragons and I never used any fortifying. I think you should get stronger as you level and gear yourself but in Skyrim you make yourself untouchable by everything. You should have to choose being great against mages or melee or being okay against both. But that's just me...

Used to be smithing increased at a fair clip. You could grind your way to 100 on iron daggers if you really wanted. I never did. I just killed bandits, some dear, improved the armor and sold it. Maxed out my smithing and all related perks by level 30 and things were still kicking my butt on a fair enough basis to make the game a challenge.
Now crafting skills level based on item value. You want to see a faster increase you have to make more valuable items like jewelry, glass, ebony and the like. Technicaly you could just spam gold rings, but gathering the materials even with the trasmute spell is time consuming, so not really a cheat as far as I'm concerned. Maxing out any of the crafting skills takes deliberate effort. A lot of it.

-edit- the changes were introduced in the 1.6 patch

I think it should be this way. It should take time to master.

Spellmaking was fun and let you tailor spells to your mana pool, though the 1 shot distruction killers every one keeps crying for required serious abuse of the system to get your magicka pool high enough to cast them without relying heavily on weakness spells. But yeah, the Forge would be an easy way for them to implement making your own staves and such. but it's as likely to happen as a Netch getting sighted in the Blue Palace.
