I think this Bandit cheated….

Are you on PC?

Coz I don't think the original Nightingale brings out the chest. (and the false cape looks crappy as hell)

My... "new" nightingale armor (with killer keos' mod) looks infinitely better than vanilla. some because it looks like standard fantasy female armor (human skin = impenetrable armor) but also because it is capeless

No, I am not on the PC. I was speaking in regards of the skin tight leather, like a cat suit.

Nooo, the bandit didn't cheat. Bethesda only listened to all the D&D fans who raged because there was no "gotcha, you're dead" moments in 4th edition :P

Ok seriously it was either a very strong bandit who got a critical hit or a glitch.

So here I am playing a thief/assassin and my companion and I decided to take on this fort with bandits.
To make a long story short, this regular bandit, equipped with a long bow and eleven arrows, somehow managed to one shot my character.

So that bandit 1 shot youre character, how did you know he had 11 arrows?

Ain't gonna say you're missing a lot, but I wish you happy with that false cape. I couldn't stand it

Anyway, pretty much on topic, I did get one-shot by a giant. I have around 700 HP with crappy armor rating (only around... what? 100?) and it launched me to stratosphere

So I guess HP alone does not decide the battle

Well 5th edition will be out in a few years, maybe it will happen then. OR you could simply walk into a dungeon and die, not knowing what happen or the need to roll...good times a wait!

... and since we are talking about bugs and stuff, i seem to remember, that block is not checked, if that shot would kill you anyway, so thats why blocking him is useless.

The "Block doesn't work bug" is only with enemy insta-kill animations where they impale you with a sword or chop your head off. Block works against arrows... sorta. The bug with the Arrow deflect perk is that you are supposed to take ZERO damage, but you still take a little bit with each arrow anyway.

Bandit damage scales differently and it seems it uses a different formula than the one employed for player characters. A bandit marauder with elven arrows and maybe something better than the usual hunting bow can easily cause 300+ HP of damage.

I get one-shotted by archers now and then, I think it's awesome, do you guys like to go through the game without ever dying or something?. I could understand it being annoying if it happened every ten minutes but come on how often does it actually occur.

For me I can one shot loads of enemies so fairs fair when they do it to you, I just think to myself whoa that bandit dude must have been smithing like mad to get his bow so powerful.

Maybe these bandits get random loot, and they happen to get some amazing stuff, if you kill them you get amazing stuff :P Never gotten anything amazing from a bandit, so this is just a theory.

Bandits with dual enchanted bows n poisons n such ?!?!?!

I've had bandits kill me with four arrows before, and that was jaw-dropping enough as it was. One would be incredible.

Yeah. When playing yesterday I ran across a bandit fort just east of Riften and those guys were bad-ass. I only around 250 health with this current character but three arrow strikes and I was dead. I even had Lydia with me and was conjuring atronauchs left and right but I couldn't take 'em. After getting killed four times I finally decided to bypass the place and come back later when I'm like 10 levels stronger. That's never happened to me in this game before. I've always been able to think my way through a battle but not this time.

One-shot arrows are one thing...

How about mages that http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NoSell multiple power-strikes in a row?

I could see some towering hulk of a melee fighter shrugging off power hits... but squishy wizards? WTH?

I was power-stiking them too in order to interrupt their concentration spells they were using too, making it doubly irritating.

After enough of that, I decided "F this, I'll out-cheat you!" And then I fired off a Killall console command and emptied the dungeon.

I do use a shield.

Oh lord, I'll have to explain what happened.

I was in sneak and so was my companion. She alerted the guards (like a moron), well they did not see me, I was doing sneak shots. Then for some reason one of the other bandits spotted me. I stood up, took my sword and sheild out and the next thing I knew I was dead. From full health to dead.

No time to heal, no time to cast a spell, no time to protect myself...DEAD as a door nail. And when I came back to kill the bandits again, the same a-hole archer one-shot me dead with one hit.
Sounds to me like a case where your shield arm was stuck in neutral.

Haven't had it with an archer.

Regular old Ice Mage managed to drop a Greater ward with one ice spike, then take out my 360 health with a second one though. (On Adept, not even Master). Given that that'd require a 1600% damage boost, I'm assuming some sort of AI cheat.

I have never heard anyone but my own family use that word before. Well met, brother!

Back to the topic at hand, I have only been one-shotted once before, but it was certainly a jaw-dropping moment.

I think the arrow used overly inflates enemy damage sometimes. I have been one shot numerous times by enemy archers. A normal Draugr will pelt me with ancient arrows and take away 1/8 of my life each, and then another normal draugr will come out and one shot me with an orcish arrow, both draugr’s use the same type of bow. I have also come across bandits that will use an Elven bow and Elven arrows that do hardly any damage, but then their buddy with a hunting bow and ebony arrows will one shot me.

I also see the same weird inconsistent damage with Lydia. I give her an enchanted ebony bow to use, as long as I don’t give her any arrows she will use the bow and do ok damage with dual damage enchants on the bow. However, if I give her ebony arrows she will instead use the hunting bow, with the ebony arrows, and do more damage.

I can one-shoot severaly types of enemies with bow and sword. I can one-shot giants with a dual-wield sneak attack.

So IMHO it's fair that playes can be one-shotted as well.

This.

And it never happened to me before, but it would be fair, every of my characters has one shot dozens of men/ creatures.

To make a long story short, this regular bandit, equipped with a long bow and Elven arrows, somehow managed to one shot my character.

Being level 50 with 340 health points, my jaw dropped at the screen, followed by some colorful swearing. I thought, OK, maybe it was a critical, but still to me that doesn’t make sense. I reloaded the game and the same jerk did it again. He finally died after a third time.

Has anyone run into this issue or an issue similar?

I have had it happen several times with bandit outlaws and one of those "soldiers" who is really a bandit in disguise. My character was over 40th level, with a 422 armor rating and full health (350) and he got one shotted by a bandit wielding a regular steel weapon like a battle axe or a warhammer.

Please don't tell me enemy archers match the damage I do, cause that would svck, LOL!

There is evidence that opponents can have access to your perks. I'll chalk your entire thread up as more evidence.

My biggest one-shot enemy early in the game was always those beefy shirtless Forsworn leaders, usually dual-wielding those laughable toothy swords.

I got [censored] by Tarzan several times. And then I discovered 0-cost destruction magic with the impact perk :{D~
