I think I unlocked the ultimate reward in an expert chest

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:57 pm

Got a couple of duds, too. But have gotten plenty of winners. Found a paralyze enchant sword and a 50% frost resist necklace in one expert chest. These don't get mentioned in threads much, but they happen often enough to make openning chests worthwhile. If it happened everytime we would probably see a bunch of threads about how chests broke the game. Cake and eating, etc.

This.

My level 18 character found on a boss chest located at some random camp the following items:
Glass Bow
Dwarven guantlets enchanted with "one-handed weapons deal +30% more damage"
Necklace enchanted with "one-handed weapons deal +20% more damage"

Given that I'm a warrior who uses 1handed weaponry, heavy armor, and has a bow as backup weapon, this chest was f*cking orgismic.

Scaled loot is terrible.

i can agree that scaled loot can, at times, be terrible, but, a master lock on 4gold is the epitome of ridiculousness.

even in a fake, fantasy gameworld it does not work.

Well, here's the thing, why would there be tons of great stuff in there from a logical standpoint?
Just cause a chest has a great lock doesn't mean that the owner of the chest had anything of value to put in it.

Why would you have a large master-locked intricate chest, and put nothing in it?

Here's the real root of the problem: There are too many chests, and too much loot.

Finding a chest means nothing, because Bethesda thought it would be a good idea to literally spam tons of loot everywhere you go and tons of chests to open. Knowing it would be imbalanced if everyone just found actually cool stuff in chests, they made it chests have [censored] loot instead, with a very rare chance of having anything good.

When what they should have done was make chests much more rare, and make loot much less "easy" to get (but still reasonably cool/easy), so when you come across the rare master-lock chest you don't get stupid [censored] inside instead of something worth the implied value.

If you were an Imperial, that number would have gone up to 6 gold coins.

Before I even open this thread, I was guessing 6 gold coins.

I got a Daedric Bow out of a Master Locked Chest once on my Breton Spellsword when she was Lvl 36. Was really nice.

"They were ambushed and dreadfully outnumbered. Had he not survived, I may never have learned what happened. He said she didn't suffer, that it was instantaneous. Then, he gave me the only thing he could find in the ash pile that, seconds ago, had been my precious daughter, my only child. 4 dusty gold coins. I will cherish them forever; they're all I have left..."

I dont usually care for what is in the chest, I'm more interested in the experience you get from unlocking the chest.

Yep; Master chest, 6 lock picks broken, 18 gold (iirc). Wasn't enough to pay for the lock picks in any case.

On the other end of the scale the Dragonplate helm was quite a surprise. Had to open up my inventory and make sure I had read that right.

I agree that finding OP loot in ever chest would become boring, but at the same time I agree finding 4 golds in a master chest at level 47 is just as bad. (actually slightly worse).

The solution is to add a minimal reward inside locked chests, such as [Level of lock] times [player level] divided with 3. [+10]. This way, the amount of gold in that chest would have at minimum have been 10+5*47/3=90. And that's minimal.

Haha I learned to save my game before I pick master and expert chests so if it's crap or I run out of picks I can reload my save
