I think I unlocked the ultimate reward in an expert chest

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 4:17 pm

I've been playing this game for 160 hrs now and I have unlocked many expert and master locked chests throughout the game and got some really pointless items inside some chests as well as some good items. But last night I opened a master lock on a chest that took about 8 lock picks to open and inside the chest was....wait for it....4, yes 4 gold coins. Basically an empty chest. If it wasn't for the fact that I have about 140 lock picks I would have been a little annoyed at having used up 8 lock picks on what was basically an empty chest. so has anyone else opened a high skilled chest only to get a jack-in-the-box pop out from it instead of getting some valuable loot inside it.
P.s. I'm at level 47 in the game.

If you were an Imperial, that number would have gone up to 6 gold coins.

Yeah, but it doesn't annoy me. That's what I'm used to get when I play Elder Scrolls games.

That's pretty crappy honestly, just 4 gold coins, pretty unlucky.

I guess it adds the realism right? Maybe they spent all their money on the fancy chest and had not had a chance to get some more valuables to put in it?? Heck if you picked the lock to one of the locked file cabinets (I guess that is like a chest these days) in my house you would get the maintenace records for my truck.

Rather get 4 gold coins than find an Uber Pwnhammer of Dragon One-Shotting inside every other chest as many RPGs like to do.

The loot of a master chest is based on your level not the level of the lock.

Well, here's the thing, why would there be tons of great stuff in there from a logical standpoint?
Just cause a chest has a great lock doesn't mean that the owner of the chest had anything of value to put in it.

What's worse, is when that master locked chest is behind an expert locked door.

Ah been a problem in Oblivion, still is now. way to go random levelled loot scaling to the 5th Degree, I wish they took my suggestion about RS handling powerful unlevelled Artifacts and Loot. it sad because when I break 6 picks and find 7 more in the chest I consider that a reward :teehee:

Yeah, often if I unlock a chest and use 4 lockpicks for example, then I get 4 lockipicks and a few gold coins in the chest :P

I had something like this before. One time I used about 25 of my 32 lockpicks on a chest which has 45 Gold and iron boots in it. I was pleased. But, maybe it's ok the way it is. The best loot is in unlocked chests, so Beth can say to the people who mourn about leveling too fast because of being forced to lockpick: "The best loot is in unlocked chests, you are not forced to lockpick.".

Chests with master locks on them are expensive. Buy one and you have no more gold to put in the chest.

I bet that's what happened, bad planning.

Just cause a chest has a great lock doesn't mean that the owner of the chest had anything of value to put in it.

From a logical standpoint, why can i single handedly take out an entire city of guards, defeat umpteen dragons on my own, shoot lightening bolts from my finger tips, summon creatures, instantly heal a life threatening injury and the best part, why do vendors in a city that's located across an entire continent or land mass know my fork is stolen? In fact, how would a shop keeper in the same city know i stole this from a house in said city?

No point applying logic to the game, otherwise we'd be here all day picking holes.

If I was level 47 and had to pick a lock to get 4 gold pieces I would be annoyed. But to have to pick a door too is just wrong.

Well done, got a chuckle out of me.

Anyways, the 4 gold chests are the gods telling you to give up this adventuring lifestyle and retire already.
