Is This Cheating? : Fallout: New Vegas

From level 8 to level 30.

Sounds really boring. svcks to be you.

Actually level 11 to 30. That was a mistake. I was actually bored before I did this. I played Fallout 3 to death during June-August and then moving on to this made me feel like I was playing the same old crap. So I did this to make the game better, some enemies level up with you so they got stronger. I hated that I could not pick any locks or hack terminals because I was used to being able to do that in Fallout 3 and the Grim Reaper's Spirit grown on me so I hated playing the game without it.

Cheat devices and cheat codes arent even cheating per se. They just let you alter the system as we generally know it. I exploit a glitch at The Vikki and Vance casino for more bottlecaps. Am I filthy rich? yes, Am I going around spend crazy? No. It never hurts to have the upper hand when you never know if you'll need it.

Some of the exploits from cheat codes and devices are technically cheating. Infinite health is cheating. I do agree with somewhat, most cheat codes and cheat devices are to obtain things like new player skins, modes, secret characters, etc. which is not cheating.

Exploits are cheats (that make use unintended developer mistakes)

For the last time I AM NOT OVERPOWERED! My max skills are speech, science, lockpick, and guns. I had speech at 90 before I did this glitch. Being level 30 has not made the combat easier for me it stayed the same. Plus, I play the game on Hard-Very Hard most of the time.

Yeah, it's cheating, but it's a single-player game, so you're free to cheat as much or as little as you like. For me, reaching the level cap drastically reduces the motivation to keep playing -- I enjoy the journey, less bothered about the destination -- but if playing this way gives you pleasure then more power to your elbow.

They mocked me first because they "mastered" the game without cheating. They always brag about their Kill/Death ratios in shooters. No they don't have as many acheivements as me but they mock me for cheating and say they are "masters". It sounds arrogant on their part considering they didn't even complete fallout 3. Mastering a Fallout game is getting max level, finding all locations, completeing every quest, find all bobbleheads/snowglobes, etc. I mocked them because they are "masters" who didn't do any of these things and they also never tried hardcoe mode yet. Yes I have more acheivements than them but thats not what this is about. They are "masters" at a game and they didn't 100% complete it, thats what I was mocking. Trophies/Achievements I do not care about because I had a 2 year head start on these guys so they don't have as much as me.

Cheating? That would depend on how one defines cheating in a single player game.

To me, what you've done is change an adventure-based RPG into an adventure-based First Person Shooter. The only problem I see with that is that game was designed as a RPG, so playing it as FPS won't be as rewarding. But it all comes down to personal preference as it is a single player game--I am just glad I don't have to play it as true FPS, because it would be one ugly, clunky Shooter.

Sounds like a personal problem.

Going from level 11 to level 30 unequivocally makes the game easier and you much more powerful. You get a lot more heath for one thing, you can take a bunch of powerful perks increasing your damage, you can open every lock and hack every terminal, etc.

And this isn't an expansion, you're not the same guy from Fallout 3.

There are some people who play these games without fast travel and feel that this really improves the experience. I'm not one of them and considering the back and forth of some quests it sounds pretty miserable to me but to each his own. If you're enjoying the game more as a level thirty super-character I don't see anything wrong with that, it's not like you're affecting other people's experience.

Is it cheating? Yes, exploiting a glitch to get infinite XP is cheating.

I didn't take powerful perks. My build is mainly for exploring. I took 3 useless perks that raise my xp gain and apparently some of the other perks i taken are also crap. Right now I am using a sledge hammer and my melee skill is 22. The terminals and lockpicking is too easy, it was bethesda's fault for making it so easy so they put skill restrictions on it. They should have used Oblivion's lock picking, that was really hard when I first played it. The terminals should use something harder than what it currently uses.

To get responses that exploiting is not cheating that someone else here pointed out and to get reply about the "masters" arrogance. Also I like to get feedback from experienced Fallout players, not just two noobs who only started with Fallout 3.

I've played Fallout New Vegas normall up to level 8. Then I discovered a glitch in Helios 1 where I was given infinite XP. I used this to get to level 30, my friends say this is cheating. I justify it by saying that I've already gotten to level 30 in Fallout 3 and this game feels like it should be a expansion so I wanted my old character back. They are also saying it makes the game too easy to have max stats. I laughed at this since its impossible on a PS3 to have max stats(all 10 SPECIAL, all 100 skills). Also, since I am level 30 some enemies have gotten much stronger and since I play on normal-very hard the game is still really difficult. They think I'm a noob because I cheated my level, they have "mastered the game without cheating". I laughed really hard at that when I saw that they only had 26% trophies. They don't even have the Fallout 3 platinum like I do and they call me a noob. These people were playing the game on very easy until I told them they get more XP on harder difficulties. Apparently you can master New Vegas by beating the story twice without even attempting hardcoe mode. LOL these people make me laugh. I'm a noob because I used something that was in my game to level up faster.

It's been my experience that people who go to such lengths to justify actions (as you are doing) usually feel guilty about it. But whatever. Pointless statement.

It's a single player game. You're exploiting a flaw and nobody else but you is ever going to feel the affects of what you're doing. So... who cares what it is?

Not really going to great lengths to justify it. I honestly am not interested in this game and thought maxing my level would renew my interest in it because I was starting to get bored of it. It did to some extent but now I'm even more bored than ever with this game. Its pretty bad when the forums about the game is more entertaining than the game itself. Apparently some people do care about this "cheating" I started this topic to get your opinions. I was expecting some of these answers but I'm surprised that no one mentioned anything about the Fallout "masters" who mocked me to start all this. I know I was cheating but I only cheated because this game feels like a expansion pack and I figured we should have the ability to import our previous game's character even if they are not the same person. I did not want to go through all that stuff again like I did during the summer for Fallout 3. The game is overall dull in comparison to Fallout 3 and I have nothing to feel guilty about for getting to where I was in the previous installment. I'm going back to playing Oblivion at least that game is not boring.

You do get more XP for playing on very hard. It works on some enemies and completeing quests. I got more experience for completeing a quest on very hard than i did on very easy. I've tested it. How can I "sound" like a noob you can't even hear me.

Its 17+ in North America. I'm 18 years old. I cheat so what? I accidently discovered this, I didn't search on the internet for it. I just to heck with it and got to level 30.

Ya know... you came onto a game forum, after exploiting a glitch to ask about cheating... which sort of makes it appear that it bothered you enough to ask

SAs I said, CCNA, HD and others - it's a single player game. Enjoy it however you want - no need to get defensive about it here.

If you do something that makes the game less enjoyable, then that's on you. But if it entertains you, then have a ball. :twirl:

No you don't. You're wrong. From the wiki:

Fallout: New Vegas, however, does not reward XP increases based on the level of difficulty selected. This somewhat alleviates the stress encountered while playing the game simultaneously on hardcoe, as it is not necessary to play it on Very Hard. No additional trophy/achievement is awarded to those who play the game on Very Hard nor do you gain bonus XP.

Not to mention is says it repeatedly throughout the game as one of the tips during the load screens. You didn't test anything. You don't get a trophy either so I'm surprised you're bothering.
