Is This Cheating?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:59 pm

Ya know... you came onto a game forum, after exploiting a glitch to ask about cheating... which sort of makes it appear that it bothered you enough to ask :P SAs I said, CCNA, HD and others - it's a single player game. Enjoy it however you want - no need to get defensive about it here. :)

If you do something that makes the game less enjoyable, then that's on you. But if it entertains you, then have a ball. :twirl:

I honestly don't care about this topic anymore. I was just interested in what people would say.

No you don't. You're wrong. From the wiki:

Fallout: New Vegas, however, does not reward XP increases based on the level of difficulty selected. This somewhat alleviates the stress encountered while playing the game simultaneously on hardcoe, as it is not necessary to play it on Very Hard. No additional trophy/achievement is awarded to those who play the game on Very Hard nor do you gain bonus XP.

Not to mention is says it repeatedly throughout the game as one of the tips during the load screens. You didn't test anything. You don't get a trophy either so I'm surprised you're bothering.

Sorry for double posting. You do know that wiki can be edited by anyone? I tested this with the exp glitch, Very Easy XP is was lower than Very Hard XP. I'm going to do another test I know I'm right for Fallout 3. Now I'm going to test Vegas again, I'm sure you get more XP for Very Hard at least for completeing quests. Right now I'm playing very hard because I'm used to it from Fallout 3. Playing very easy with a level 30 is too easy. Also can you post a direct link to that wiki post?

I'm of the belief that if you are playing a single player game the only way to cheat is to cheat yourself. If you enjoy playing one way over another then play differently than how you enjoy it, you are cheating yourself.

And who really cares what someone else thinks? I mean....it's your game to play alone for your own enjoyment.

I'm too old to even fathom the concept of achievements. What do I do with them? What do I get when I achieve them all? Free games? Money? The presidency?

Can you cheat yourself? Kinda depends on your self-conception. If you want to do something (or stop doing it) but your weaker self hinders you, then yes, you are cheating yourself and you might need help. (Unless the thing you want to do isn't socially acceptable, then you actually should listen to that "weaker" self.)

So if you actually feel that you're ruining your fun, then yes, you're cheating and you should strife to stop it. If it is more fun with cheating, then do it. Where's even the point in talking about it?

As for your friend's ridicule, at 18+ one should be mentally stable enough to stand above the opinion of a bunch of nerds that need to prove themselves by playing computer games. (Of course, this includes all of us who philosophize about cheating in a computer game instead of actually playing one, or doing something useful. )

Its up to you how you play a SINGLE player game. however, if you said to me you had beaten New Vegas i would say now go beat it without cheating this time.

But again, play single player however you wish its entirely up to you.

Leveling up to 30 in fallout 3 was a pain in the ass that I never want to do ever again. I was actually level 12 when I started this glitch. Getting to level 12 happened a lot faster than it did in fallout 3. The leveling system seemed to be a bit easier. I didn't bother with it due to the frustration I had when leveling in fallout 3. I beg to differ about it being easier, my level is 30 but I'm not overpowered enemies can take me down if I don't watch myself. Remember enemies level up with you so the enemies in my game are stronger. I cannot go into a building a clear out everything easily. I get owned if I not careful. I play very hard alot, so no challenge is lost. The companions are more of a game ruined than my glitched level will ever be. Boone is immortal and runs ahead of me to slaughter everything. I can barely get a kill with Boone with me. Also I use a sledgehammer and my skill is only 22.

Yes I think it is cheating. But it's your experience so do what you want, no judgement from me. Enemies do not level with you, maybe it's because of yourhigh level you are able to explore into some of the higher level enemy areas, but they do NOT scale with your level. And they removed the increased xp based upon increased difficulty feature. As for your FO3 experience, to each his own. I levelled up insanely fast in that one as well.

*On a side note, I'm not going to insult and ridicule your friends for giving you a hard time. They are your friends and perhaps have the kind of relationship w/ you where you give each other a hard time for things. My friends and I ride each others asses for any little thing we can. So I don't necessarily think they are nerds or wth ever for riding you about it.

Yes, it can be edited by anyone, and the anybodies in question are the most die hard, rabid FO fans that you'll find. So, one last time: FO3? Difficulty effects XP. FNV? Difficulty doesn't effect XP. Test all you want. It actually tells you this IN GAME during load screens. And if you want to see the article just go to the wiki and search Experience Points.

I find it odd that you care this much about the effect of Difficulty on XP when you glitched your way to level cap already anyway.

I can stand their ridicule I actually find it pretty entertaining. Considering they are usually wrong. Funniest thing about it was the guy who was doing it only just got Fallout New Vegas the day before and it was his first ever Fallout game. He was calling me a noob when he was the biggest noob at the game him self. The point of talking about cheating is well there is no point it just fun to read your responses.

So is it maybe also cheating to play without a 300XP per Level mod like I do? I even removed most armor enchantments, but I haye to admit that I made hacking much easier (for me, the player) because that minigame is fun for a while but becomes tedious very soon. So am I a cheater? Or maybe some kind of anti-cheater? Or do I just play the game In a way that makes it worth my while?

Cheating always requires a cheater and someone to be cheated. And here they are one and the same.

While I may consider exploiting this is cheating I didn't go so far as to label someone a cheater. I try not to judge ppl by trivial things like that. It's their experience and affects noone but themselves, really doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks. After reading many many posts by ppl who also think it is cheating, why single me out to ask if I think you are a cheater for what you do?

You seem to be mistaking cheating for swindling. To swindle, you must swindle someone. And, truthfully, swindle is one definition of cheat. It is not all definitions of cheat.

Definition 5. Violate rules. Of course, this forces us to establish what the "rules" are. But I don't think that would be too hard given some level of intellectual honesty.

Very true, Tale. I can only speak for myself as it is a single player game. I would feel like I cheated (myself) if I did not work for every level gain. I also consider it cheating if you operate outside of the game designers' intentions (what I define as the rules). It was intended for one to work their way up to level 30 rather than take advantage of an exploit that gives you infinite xp. That's just me though.

"Leveling up to 30 in fallout 3 was a pain in the ass that I never want to do ever again."

Did you ever think that maybe these games aren't for you? There are plenty of other games out there that you don't need to level up in. This whole game is based around getting XP and gaining levels.

Is it cheating? Yes of course it is. As a lot of other people said though, it's a single player game and the only person you are cheating is yourself. The toughest parts of the game are at the beginning when you have no perks and no skills. It's like in fallout 3 when I found the Chinese stealth suit. Was that cheating? I don't know but it sure felt like it. The only difference is I used the game as it was intended and you used a glitch.

Ask all these people that use Boone if that is cheating and I am sure they will say no. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere though that the Boone script is glitched and it is making him way too overpowered. Would they say they were cheating when they knew something had to be wrong?

Just play the game how you want to and have fun.

Nothing personal, at that point you were the last one to post "yes it's cheating", that's all..

Cheating is what a cheater does, you can't do the one without being the other. But whether it's said directly or indirectly, calling someone a cheater is a statement, not a judgement, unless you already decided that cheating is unfair or simply bad (or maybe even smart?).

I am a cheater in this game because I cheat at the hacking minigame, It's in my nature to bend the rules when they inconvenience me too much, when there is an easier way, or one I'm more apt at, then I take it. Yes, also in real life, though there it's usually called pragmatism, not cheating. I may refrain from it when it means inconveniencing or even hurting others, (or the possible consequences for myself are too harsh) but as I said, in a single player game the only person I actually can cheat is myself, and I pride myself of not being fooled very easily.

I avoid them like the plaque, but should I ever be forced to play a multiplayer game, I would "cheat" in a blink If I could and desired to. What's exactly the problem in my char owning that nice castle and all that godly gear? If you don't have them, maybe you didn't make use of all your abilities while playing the game? Or is it because the poor asian char-farmers would be unemployed when everyone would get their power-chars by cheating instead of buying them?

Since you missed it the first time someone pointed it out to you...

Level scaling is all but removed from New Vegas, most enemies do not level to match you.

Now, with that said:

1: Yes, exploiting a glitch is cheating.

2: Since it's a single-player game you're not cheating anyone else, so who cares?

3: But, since you keep insisting (incorrectly) that everything scales with you, the answer to 2 is you obviously care, since you're trying to justify yourself by claiming that the entire game has adjusted and become harder (again, it hasn't due to the lack of level scaling) to match your glitch-created uber-character.

So...yes, you're cheating by exploiting a glitch and going outside the rules intended by the games designers, but it doesn't really matter since it's a single-player game- although it is hysterically amusing watching you insist that you don't care while frantically trying to justify yourself with bogus claims about level scaling. :D

Actually, very few enemies level with you. This isn't FO3.

And no, you don't get more XP on FNV for playing on harder difficulty. That was just in F3.And no, enemies don't scale to your level. At least not in the Oblivion kinda way which you seem to imply. And yes, you did make the game easier with this.

Again, very few enemies in this game level with you. This is not FO3.

Also... enemies don't scale with your level, so you being level 30 has no bearing on enemy difficulty.

Enemies do not level with you, maybe it's because of yourhigh level you are able to explore into some of the higher level enemy areas, but they do NOT scale with your level. And they removed the increased xp based upon increased difficulty feature.

Any questions? :D

Nope I never bragged about it. They just started this because I wasn't playing the game for a week. I disagree about taking out the challenge. The combat it much harder now because all the enemies leveled up with me.

Um you do know that most of the enemies in Fallout NV don't lvl up with you right?

It is cheating if you are using the leaderboards and gaining trophies, but then I don't care about this achievment bunk, so go ahead and enjoy yourself.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/rule

1 and 2 apply here, and the question is why to follow them. In a board game, in sports, etc. you follow the rules because you want to compete with another player to decide who can win while following the rules, in a society you follow the rules because you want to belong, lest you'd be disposed of in one way or the other.

With neither a desire to compete with other players, nor a desire to join the order of righteous Fallout finishers, there is no one to be cheated but oneself. And none of us can decide whether someone else actually cheats himself or not. We only can apply our standards, our set of rules, which simply may not apply.

I've played Fallout New Vegas normall up to level 8. Then I discovered a glitch in Helios 1 where I was given infinite XP. I used this to get to level 30, my friends say this is cheating. I justify it by saying that I've already gotten to level 30 in Fallout 3 and this game feels like it should be a expansion so I wanted my old character back. They are also saying it makes the game too easy to have max stats. I laughed at this since its impossible on a PS3 to have max stats(all 10 SPECIAL, all 100 skills). Also, since I am level 30 some enemies have gotten much stronger and since I play on normal-very hard the game is still really difficult. They think I'm a noob because I cheated my level, they have "mastered the game without cheating". I laughed really hard at that when I saw that they only had 26% trophies. They don't even have the Fallout 3 platinum like I do and they call me a noob. These people were playing the game on very easy until I told them they get more XP on harder difficulties. Apparently you can master New Vegas by beating the story twice without even attempting hardcoe mode. LOL these people make me laugh. I'm a noob because I used something that was in my game to level up faster.

Depends on you as a person, if you can still enjoy the game fully doing this, then there is nothing wrong with it as your only cheating yourself in theory.
