If I had a dollar for every bunghead who spouted off about how his XBOX360 "runs every game at 1080p"... Wasn't halo 3 like 640p native?
Yep, early in the 360's life, 2xMSAA was practically a standard yet could only be "free" (with that 10 mbs of embedded eDRAM in the 360's GPU) if the resolution was sub-HD, or so I understand. Subsequently, many early 360 games were sub-HD with 2xMSAA.

At least Bungie targets a framerate and does their best to lock-it.

Skyrim tanks in SD.

Now, the saved data file correlation is perfectly real and my thread is not concerning that, but contrary to what people are claiming, this game doesn't just have issues with larger saved data file sizes. No matter how far you are into the game, this game has fps issues on the PS3 and the saved data file correlation simply exacerbates and spreads the issue. It has been proven by both lensoftruth's and DigitalFoundry's digital anolyses that the PS3 version inherently suffers from a fluctuating fps whereas the 360 version does not.

This is a clear and ominous indication that the game engine is, from the very onset, not as well optimized for the PS3 as it should be. Now, in the less demanding areas, where it fluctuates between 25 and 30, it is still not really stable or a smooth 30 fps as some falsely claim, but it is relatively smooth, if not a bit choppy or sluggish, occasionally, but then in more demanding areas such as the fog-covered marshes near solitude, the fall forest, the area surrounding Morthal, inside cities, and inside many interiors (usually dungeons with any shred of size, lighting effects, and/or mist effects), the framerate never reaches 30 at all and seems to fluctuate somewhere between 15-25 because the game engine was already scraping the bottom of the barrel and struggling even in less-demanding areas.

This game is not as well-optimized for the PS3 as the 360 regardless of any saved data file issues and it has lag regardless of those, as well. Longer play-times and larger saved data files are only further proof of Bethesda's negligence and they only serve to take the issue to an unplayable level, for many, but then I wonder why people don't seem to recognize this. Perhaps they misdiagnose this inherent lagging as being a part of the saved data file issue, but it isn't and if it isn't brought up, specifically, as being inherent, we're pretty much stuck with it.

There is not a single person here who has a stable framerate on their PS3 version of Skyrim regardless of saved data file size and that is a fact. Whether they choose to dismiss the very noticeable impact this lack of optimization has in the areas mentioned or not is beyond me, but I've conducted tests and video anolysis sites and groups have conducted tests. "Lag" is inherent to the PS3 version and if someone isn't having these issues in the areas I mentioned, I'd very much appreciate video proof because as of now, there is none. Please comment on what you think of this or if you've noticed it or not.

I agree with most of what you say as well, however I can't see why this kind of thread is in the Tech Supp Sub forum. Why not post conjecture in the General sub forum? Generalizations, conjecture, speculation thats not directly attached to a thread thats moved past its original point. Just kinda means pages and pages of the same. Tech Supp should be an A-B process.

First, that's what most tech support threads are... reports of complaints with Skyrim followed by pages of the same... of comments on complaints and agreeing/disagreeing with the complaints. Second, this is not speculation, it's a complaint of my own. In a nutshell, the fps of this game is crap. I'd appreciate it if this was known not only to forum-goers, but any random Bethesda employee who may be of some significance. Third, what general sub-forum, the completely unrelated to PS3 technical issues place where threads constantly get buried if not torn apart by jackasses on other platforms, perhaps even our own, telling me to simply "stop whining"? I've been around on these forums for a long time, I know where things belong and this PS3-specific technical failure of Skyrim would count as belonging to the PS3 section of the Skyrim hardware and software issues on the Bethesda forums.

Hi everybody, new guy here.

Yeah the save file on my PS3 is at 15mb and the frame rate has dropped so much the game is now pretty much unplayable. Ever try fighting an elder dragon at 0.5 fps? It's NOT easy lol.

Just out of curiosity, why don't dead things disappear? I'm running around seeing things I killed back in November when I first got the game... I mean things like seeing an ash pile in the middle of a blizzard... uh, is it some kind of magic ash that has the molecular density of a black hole? Wouldn't you think that ash would blow away after a bit? Fading dead things off the map after a few day's game time would certainly help with the choppiness problem.

Hope it gets fixed, I really enjoy this game.

Not to be rude to anyone here, but I couldn't give two $%&#$ about WHY we have a problem here, I just want to know WHY they left it there to begin with and WHEN it will be fixed. I just want to be able to play my game. It's not our job to figure out whats wrong with the game, it's Betheseda's.

You know, my brother just decided to start up a new character, a Khajiit, on the PS3 version and got bored rather quickly, so I decided to mess around with the new character. Nothing infuriates me more, but yeah, it was pretty evident that the framerate is inherently pretty poor. Running around in the forest area near Riverwood had me at an fps roughly at 25, entering a really cool, submerged fort I found for the first time had the framerate down to 15-20 near any water effects and 20-25 for the rest. I just... can't take it anymore. This will never be "fixed" (fixing a crappy port that doesn't make much use of the PS3's strength at a very basic level isn't possible nor something Bethesda, who evidently didn't care enough in the first place to do more than hastily port the game, will ever put the time and money into addressing) and I simply can't take it anymore. It's sad... although I heavily criticize the game's severe lack of RPG "depth", it's still a fun game and a somewhat pretty game that would be good for blowing off some steam... if it wasn't the thing simultaneously giving me need to blow off steam. I just... I'm not giving my money to this company again. I'm heartbroken, truly, I am.

I've been on these forums since August of 2009 for a reason and I'm not new to this series or Bethesda by any means. I've played the TES games from Arena to Skyrim, even giving a rather large hiatus to Fallout 3, and I'm just crushed. I saw these signs coming all up until release, but part of me really wanted to believe they meant what they said. In the end, I got a game whose mechanics I'm disappointed in to a certain degree (though I still really like the game), but more importantly, I got a game I simply can't stand to move around in and play as the sequel to a long-time favorite series of mine and I'm just crushed. They put so little effort into getting this game on the PS3 and the results are very clear... now I'm stuck with it and its problems all because Bethesda didn't give a rat's ass about my platform other than seeing dollar signs on it for minimal effort.
