This game has no sense of being a explorertreasure hunter

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:02 am

There really is no reason to be a treasure hunter/explorer, they really dropped the ball on hunting for great loot/items or even artifacts to put in my home as deeds of my accomplishments.

It's a whole lot better than it was in Oblivion, in my opinion.

In Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Fallout 3 I used to collect unique weapons and put them on display in my home. I can't do this in Skyrim because every time I walk into the house I find them in the middle of the floor. Could be Lydia I suppose, jealous of all my collectibles.

How? More detail please.

I for one have come across Gold statue of one of the Gods, cant remember the name but begins with a D - Sits nicely by my bed in the College of Winterhelm.

Hunting for the Daedra ruins is another exploration task you can do. Dwemer ruins, Dragon sites (cant remember their official name.)

All of these do not appear on your map until you find them. All have excellent items and loot. For me anyway

I played with no smithing or enchanting and treated magical items as disposable (don't recharge them). That pretty much kept every chest and encounter interesting as I constantly found useful short term items and upgrades throughout the game. It felt a lot more natural somehow than just making the best armor in the game and having a stash of 1314 magical weapons.

Weapon racks and bookshelves are an excellent addition though.

I know what you mean. There should be a lot more hand placed loot in the game. Wasnt that a big point of criticism in Oblivion? I dont know why they changed the scaling system for NPCs but not for the loot.

Wait, are you complaining about Skyrim? There are more Uniques in this game than any other previous TES Title.

There are also more books to collect. Dragon Priest Masks, Bugs in Jars, Daedric Items......

However, I think this guy went a bit too far:

Ugh.

I hate to encourage complainers, but I sort of agree here. What I'd really love is to feel like a researcher/archaeologist/Indiana Jones character - sort of like the author of the in-game book The Ruins of Kemel-Ze. It's sort of hard to pull that off, though, because most of the game requires you to be a badass stone-cold killer. I guess you could take a more hands-off approach to combat, invest in a hired follower, and explore that way, though. The way I'd do it is roll into some town, set up a temporary office at the local inn, and explore the local areas of interest (ruins) from there.

And come to think of it, there are several instances where you find a book in-game and it points you to a questline. I think there are 2 or 3 of these. And some of the Daedric quests, though icky, certainly have you questing after legendary items.

So it looks like I've talked myself out of being a complainer after all. Maybe it has more to do with the player's perspective & approach to the game - and their character build.

So the real question then is, what sort of build would work for this kind of approach?

The only problem I have is the weapons you get for becoming Thane could have been unique, instead you get random crap. I'll get you something from my collection, is it? if your collection is so large, how come I get a low level sword with a low level enchantment, regardless of my level, then?

I've found that repositioning them twice usually does the trick. They seem to eventually stay-in-place in my game.

Dibella, the goddess of wonderful hedonism.

Also, while there is a distinct absence of rolling boulders, we do have nazi's (the Thalmor, or the Stormcloaks, depends on your outlook on life... we tend to be divided here, it's the closest thing the forum has to political parties: Who is MORE evil, the stormcloaks of the Thalmor), we have exotic locals, we have tombs, we have evil (Some of it... somewhere... there was that one quest with the floating brooms), and we have idiotic governments to deal with... that's pretty Tresure hunting.

Personally, I'm waiting for the quest where you find a treasure ship, and then get stopped at the border of Skyrim by a group of nords, saying you didn't have salvage rights... at which point you get tied up in years of litigation and other crap, until finally you win the rights to part of the treasure, after you have given the tax cut to the government. Because THEN you'll be roleplaying a treasure hunter.

Unfortunatly i bellive there is not one dungeon in this game not related to a quest of some kind so there arn't many dungeons created just for exploring

I think there are some rocking unique loot. I don't know how much detail to get into since this is general discussion - But Red Eagle, Galdur, and Pale Blade all leap to mind - I'll let you figure out what they are.

I've been playing my Tomb-Raider Arogonian Scholar into level 40 or so, and I've mostly been hitting the ruins pretty hard - in addition to those mentioned above, she's also been collecting Dwemer items (working on a full set of armor for display purposes), seeing how many ornamental Dragon Claws she can collect, as well as putting together a full set of ancient Nordic armor. Good times, if you ask me.

Do I wish there was more flashy stealable loot? Yes, sometimes I do. Gold chalices, etc. But I'm working on filling baskets and bowls with gemstones, and that's doing it for me. But I'm a little weird like that.

I don't know about that, a lot of areas are explorable, and about everywhere there CAN be quests linked to it, due to Radiant. But, I don't think every dungeon has some kind of quest hardwired to it.

God, if they had fleshed out quests for every everything, that would have been awesome. Inconsistent, since Mage's guild needed work, but still awesome.
