This game rated M?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:03 pm

As far as nudity, run to the mods, lol. Seriously, in addition to the areas mentioned above (gore, mutilation, etc.) I think another reason for the M is the advlt situations and conclusions in the game. I mean consider the tradtional children's game: the hero has adventures, kills the bad guys, saves the princess, and everyone lives happily ever after. Here we have Stormcloaks v. Empire: they're both equally corrupt and neither represent a morally "good" choice (for you Americans, this should sound familiar, lol). The Companions have you beating up people; the Thieves guild has you framing them and the Dark Brotherhood has you killing them! You would never see this in Zelda, lol, hence the M rating.

They should bring back the knights of the nine now that was a straight shooting bunch.

I use to be against nudity. This thread changed my mind.

Anyways, mods if you're on the PC. There are plenty of them already bogging down the Nexus site.

If you want accurate ratings (at least more so) go by PEGI if not go by ESRB they slide everything under one carpet because their rating system isn't very efficent for starters and between E10 and T there is only 3 years (5 ratings altogether C,E,E10+,T,M,AO) AO being the one that is not allowed to be sold on a open market.

But again as I said previously it doesn't need to be nudity to be rated M it does need sixual themes however which are subtle but still are present in the game.

Edit: nevermind my complaining.

Just because a game has content that rates it "M" does not mean that there's some obligation to go overboard and pack it full of additional M-rated content.

The start of the dark brotherhood warrants an advlt rating.

But it's a family friendly mature rating......!

And yeah, things changed when Todd took the helm.

Quite the statement about a society's warped priorities, if simple nudity is so bad but a public beaheading or 2 is nothing noteworthy.

If only nudity were so "simple"

Beth doesn't set the game's rating...the rating is set by each and every nation's government, where the game is released.

Game companies will vary the content of games on a range of factors, whether that is target audience, national sensitivities, etc. Some places get some content, others don't.

What should be of concern to all gamers is that if the mods push the boundaries, then it is entirely possible that games will be banned in some places purely on the basis of what the mods create. Believe me, it is highly possible...already in Australia Skyrim has been in the media due to the nudity mods that are available, and there has been talk by the government of either increasing the game's rating, or banning it. If that sort of action actually comes about, then I can see a time when game companies will introduce protections to prevent modification, or will take modders to court for breach of copyright, loss of income etc.
