50% of this game is you watching the loading screen

Do you have the PS3 version? Apparently that seems to be quite common with the PS3 version but doesn't affect every PS3 for whatever reason

I got those new xboxs a week ago i opened my old one up and swap it with the new and then returned it got my money back

I understand that Xbox users have this problem (I'm on PC and my loading screens average 1 to 2 seconds), but I also understand that you can cut loading time a lot by installing the game on your hard drive rather than playing it off the disk. :)

I did this and it is slower than old people screw. lololol

I have a laptop with dedicated graphics card and I don't have a loading screen more than 3 maybe 4 seconds. Tis a shame if the loading screens are that long on console because I was going to buy it for Xbox, but maybe I'll just get a different game.

You kids today..Nah it ain't just you guys.

The loading screens are minimal and at the most,on the 360,take 30 seconds.

It just seems like a long load time.

I know "OMG half a minute of loading..it's wasting my time!"

For every 6 hours you play you may have to "endure" 3 minutes of loading.

So if your blaming the game for wasting 3 minutes of your life..who's to blame for the other 357 minutes a week you "waste" on the game?

Same here. :foodndrink:

Seriously though, folks: It doesn't take a $2000 investment in a good PC to run games like New Vegas fantastically. You can build a decent PC for like $1000, which I realize is $700 more than an XBOX but them's the breaks.

And if you take into consideration how often the average consumer buys a new computer anyway and how much they spend on them,(roughly every 2.5 - 3 years and $700 - $800) building a decent gaming rig doesn't really end up costing more.

Heh, Try playing the game when it's installed on a SSD sometime. You learn to speed read in a hurry.

This.

Just turning it off and back on again, helps a lot too.

It's the game's way of making you take a break.

If the load screen starts taking longer than 20 or 30 seconds its time for a switch off. I have never had to clear the cache yet, just a simple power down and alls well.

i have it installed on my drive already. I have notice that if i play more then an hour it starts loading for a least 2 mins

And other Xbox users have already suggested "clear your cache" as the solution to that ;)

And this not aimed at GNUT, but just a general response to the thread:
The truth, however much it hurts, is that people who have the cash to spend $1-2K on a PC gaming rig are going to get better performance than someone with a $200 console based on aging hardware - that's the way of the world, and yes in some ways it's not fair, but it's also a case of you get what you pay for. I've seen the in-game graphics comparisons between PC and Xbox, and tbh it ain't pretty. That's why people still play games on PCs, why people still pay good money for PC hardware, and if I run out of space for installing games I can easily bung in a new 2Tb HDD as my 3rd or 4th or 5th HDD and just carry on going.. people use PCs for a reason, yes they are more expensive and require maintenance, but there is a payoff which is why people do it...

I wouldn't say 50% (unless you were being a little drastic or sarcastic about it) is the loading, I would say 50% is walking around those rocky mountains in the beginning. When you get to an higher level you might be able to fight you're way through the deathclaws or simply fast travel. 50%....I vote on travel....

Yeah you can get way better performance out of a PC. The cost is the only reason i dont have a decent PC.

I'm guessing it has to do with how old the console is, harddrive space, and cache.

Though I have an Xbox I bought in April, 120 Gb HD, downloaded the game to my HD, and only play for a few hours at a time (I have other games I'm playing as well). I just don't get why my load times are horrendous.

That is such a myth with all of the games. I tried this with halo Reach and both Fallout games and others. Each time I deleted them off of my hard drive because load times were just as unbearable. I could not tell any difference with New Vegas on my Hard Drive after I installed it, and haven't felt like it was any slower now that i have taken it off. Even if it is true, it is so immeasurably minuscule that it isn't worth the hard drive space to be honest.

I do not concur completely. Having Reach installed to my HD has made load times of maps much better.

But I'm thinking I might uninstall NV. It doesn't seem worth the HD space since it isn't multiplayer, so only I am loading, and not 7 other players.

PC user here with instant load screens... but, i understand 360 users pain... i was at my mates house the other day he has NV on the 360 and the load screens were terrible... i could of walked back home (over 40 minutes away) completed new vegas had a cup of tea returned to his house only to find he has only just that second gotten through a door.

Still, I'm sure they will try and fix this issue in a patch.

For PC users wanting to cut down on loading times, switch vsynch off. A lot of games suffer slow load thanks to it trying to throttle back a 2000FPS+ loading screen to whatever your monitor refresh rate is..
I kid you not, GTAIV for example would show over 8000FPS in the loading screens and would load in around 5 seconds, with vsynch on it took an absolute bloody age to load. Fallout NV deos the exact same.

Unfortunately the consoles can't do this but are probably suffering from the same thing.

If you got long loading screens as a PC user, your best bet is to get a faster harddrive, defragging helps abit aswell.

On consoles, it's not something that you can just patch out. It's a matter of the size of the loaded cluster compared to your console's harddrive speed. The only solution would be to somehow make F:NV load in bigger clusters at a time, but that might hurt performance.

loading times are fine when i first load the game up (on 360 here)
but after a few hours loading times increase
i have sat for over 3 minutes waiting for one load!!
shutting down the game/console and re-loading it resolves this issue, but seems a little extreme!!

not tried installing on my HD, but my friend who has reckons he still has same issue
fingers crossed this is one of the many fixes on the cards
