I understand that Xbox users have this problem (I'm on PC and my loading screens average 1 to 2 seconds), but I also understand that you can cut loading time a lot by installing the game on your hard drive rather than playing it off the disk. :)

Gotta agree with you there. All the map markers are outside the towns, so if you want to go to the Strip or Freeside, you have to fast-travel to the gates, then go through another load screen. And then two other load screens to get to the Strip, and possibly 2 more, depending on where in the Strip you want to go.

Kind of annoying.

It was the same way with me until I download the game to my harddrive, now I never have a load over 10 seconds.

I see your point with the amount of loading screens, but as far as I'm aware it's because a console couldn't handle a city the size of New Vegas as a whole. As an Xbox 360 player, I cannot complain, as I'd rather the loading screens than not have it at all :)

I'm sure it will be fixed in the patch, if it's possible.....maybe the 360's older hardware makes it an issue

It eats up the amount of available space still left. If you have other games or DLCs for other games already installed, this isn't an option.

The only time I dislike the amount of loading screens is when I have to constantly go back and forth between areas for short dialogues, or going through the Strip. I do not understand why the NCR Embassy wasn't an actual location. I have to go through 3 "checkpoints" that are placed in the Strip (I do not understand why though, seeing as how there is very little going on in each "checkpoint" in the Strip).

This becomes even worse during the King's Gambit quest.

I hate the load screens too. I'm a PS3 user and 99% of lock ups to my PS3 are on load screens. :(

No it doesn't. My loading times are generally around 30 seconds to a full minute, and I installed the game to my harddrive before I even played it.

well, I guess it depends on your system. My load screen rarely goes over 3 seconds. Most are .5-1 sec.

Do you have the PS3 version? Apparently that seems to be quite common with the PS3 version but doesn't affect every PS3 for whatever reason

It's a memory leak, clear your cache and it will be fine again.

PC user, with a monster machine and a RAID array for a hard drive.

I have a problem with loading screens too- they disappear so fast I can't read the little tips and story bits on them. :D

Same here. :foodndrink:

Seriously though, folks: It doesn't take a $2000 investment in a good PC to run games like New Vegas fantastically. You can build a decent PC for like $1000, which I realize is $700 more than an XBOX but them's the breaks.

Well that is always going to be an issue of having a small hard drive, and there's not a lot I can suggest to remedy that, can you not get a bigger HDD for it? I remember back in the day 15 years ago or thereabouts when I first bought Baldurs Gate it came on 5 CDs and there was interminable CD swapping and long load times unless you had the internal disk space to do a full installation (and that was on PC when a 250Mb HDD was but a futuristic sci-fi dream), it's just one of those hardware limitations - loading off a hard drive will ALWAYS be faster than loading off CD/DVD. You have the same options I had back then, either put up with long load times or clear off space on your HDD.

Mate, as much as I appreciate your enthusiasm and like a lot of your opinions, there's no need to rub salt in the wounds of those having difficulties.... I too have a great rig that cost me over $1k (bought components for £850 GBP and built it myself, not sure of the exact exchange rate), but a lot of people don't have that luxury.

That's the memory leak mentioned above just clear your cache every now and then but be careful because it corrupts any autosave.

I'm on a decent PC and my loading times are only 1-2 seconds, just reporting. However I do have weird indoor fps drops but that's bout it.

This.

Just turning it off and back on again, helps a lot too.

It's the game's way of making you take a break.
