This is ridiculous...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:31 pm

I just bought New Vegas a couple of days ago and have to say that this every hour and a half restarted my PS3 crap is getting old.... I can't do the Boone quest because as soon as I walk into the town of Bitter Springs to kill the Legion slavers it freezes. I go into the Crimson Caravan and 75% of the time it freezes. I go into Freeside 50% of the time it freezes. I go into Westside and 80% of the time it freezes. Boone has bugged out and when I sent him away was NOT waiting at Novac he was inside the Allied Technologies building for god knows what. Fast traveling causes the game to freeze on occasion, about 30% of the time. I've tried restoring my PS3 like I read on the forums, I've reset my HUD color to something besides the Amber color, I've turned off the Auto-save feature except for when I sleep, I've turned off both the radio and the music. I can SOMETIMES get the V.A.T.S to work... sometimes...

Why Bethesda? Why the hell would you release a game THIS glitchy? I've just today finally made it to the New Vegas Strip (After having to give up doing most side missions because of the game freezing) and when I go into the Chairman Casino IT EFFING FREEZES!! And I know about the whole "Play for 5 hours then reset the PS3" crap but I have only been playing for MAYBE a hour and a half at MOST. I was thinking of buying your Oblivion game as well but if New Vegas is ANY reflection of your games then I am unsure as to whether or not I want to waste my money on it. And to top it all off instead of fixing the broken craptastic excuse for a game that is New Vegas you release a DLC WHICH DOES NOTHING TO HELP! Yay I get to sit through 10 more hours of resetting my PS3 because it's crashing every other hour of gameplay!! The game is fun, the story is fantastic, and I love exploring and unlocking every little thing. But a person can only handle so much of playing through the same mission all because halfway through the mission the game decides it's done playing and takes a nap forcing you to restart.

perhaps it's hopeless?
They either don't care anymore, they made their money and now they're gone.

The worst thing is, this game is actually very great (well awesome)

Yeah and the freezing has only gotten worse once I reached the New Vegas Strip, now instead of every hour and a half it freezes almost ever 30 minutes or so. I almost want to say that having restored my system made it worse but I don't know. If I hadn't found the game for 30$ brand new at gamestop I'd be VERY angry at Bethesda.

My current main actually has like 60 and more hours, and I can say it barely had any problems before I finished Dead money, it was when I got back to the Mojave where it started to gradually have these awful freezing and frame rate drop problems

I played through the game (made all the quests, except one unmarked with a failed script, possible with Yes Man/Independent-ending) and visited all locations. It took me 150+ hours effective playing (but it was my 3rd play through after 1st making a save-fail (relying on auto-save and having one "real" save too far back), then an attempt ending in botched quest that locked the game. Use a wiki (I know it sort of ruins it) but then you can "optimize" your play and get through it. I might have spent 200+ hours (much more if you count the time I had to replay stuff because of frozen sessions and lost progress) but I wanted to finish it. No [censored] chance I'll ever try to get a platinum on this one until they get their act together and actually deliver what they were paid for in the first place. And don't believe the people saying they have no or small problems with the game - my guess is that the publishers rather spend money on paying people to say good things rather than actually fixing a broken product. This is the worst game I have ever played in like 30 years. No kidding. Sadly.

And it froze again. Then I started over and did the entire Boomers quest with other side missions and went into the Omerta Casino they took my weapons, I ended up being caught somewhere I'm not supposed to be, I click to go out to the courtyard where Joana is, and my companions are going batcrap crazy. They are attacking anything that moves gamblers, prostitues, thug's, anything. And I can not get them to stop attacking stuff!! So I say "Whatever they're not really important anyways" I go back inside decide to go get my gear out of their bank... and it's gone... all the freaking named guns I had collected all of my ammo... gone... I searched the entire casino upside down. My only guess is that it's glitched so if they are hostile towards you and you leave (Even if it's to go to another part of the casino) you lose your weapons... such bull... So now I get to play through the Boomer quests again! YAY!! (<----sarcasm -.- ) /sigh If i weren't so interested in how this all ends I would put the game down... seems Bethesda is capable of creating a very good background and story... just not turning it into a reliable video game /angry

The game IS great the story is awesome and the gameplay is good. I love how you can go anywhere do anything. It feels like a FPS, there are all sorts of hidden secrets and the background is just awesome. But yes the game itself is not "Great" because you can not play the game for an hour without it freezing up. And it's ridiculous we have to save every 3 minutes out of fear the game is going to freeze and we'll have to redo everything we've done so far.

Gameplay/Story/Background - Awesome
Game itself - Horrible

I am, paid almost 5 times that for the CE game & CE guide. Preordered. I've never spent so much on something so worthless. There isn't much you can do about it though, except sell it.

...and I can say it barely had any problems before I finished Dead money, it was when I got back to the Mojave where it started to gradually have these awful freezing and frame rate drop problems.

I'm getting flashbacks of Fallout 3's DLC & GOTY. Anyone else seeing a pattern?

That's... a little paranoid... there are people who can play without issues. The game(well, the engine, Gamebryo) just doesn't run all that great on the PS3 & 360, although there are people who experience only minor problems with both titles, some how....

The game should be strictly PC. The community has managed to fix the game while Obsidian play's with DLC and Bethesda screws around with Skyrim.

Yah dont get ahead of yourself there cowboy.

The game is, indeed, great, if you choose to ignore the technical issues and other little things. But unfortunately the technical issues are kinda preventing people from enjoying the game as it should be. So I can understand why a lot of people think its better used as a coaster or frisbee then anything else.

I had Fallout 3 with almost all the DLC's (Except for Mothership Zeta or whatever it's called) and I didn't have half the problems I have with New Vegas. If it had just been a few freezes every now and then I wouldn't have any problems with it whatsoever, but New Vegas is just bad.

Thats not what im talking about. I can get over the issues its just that its a static game and gets boring very quickly.

I actually haven't gotten bored even once. Just annoyed to the point of not wanting to even pick it up again. If the game didn't crash every hour and a half I'd never put it down.

This is how someone at amazon describes the game and the bugs:

A piece of delicious cake sitting on a table not to far away from you, you can smell it, and almost taste it... but as you make your way to the table a man jumps in front of you and punches you in the face, laughing uncontrollably as he runs off into the distance.

 (I suppose the man also takes the cake with him as he runs away.)

And it froze again.... and I forgot to save so now I have to go back and re-explore 3 different zones. And my system is fine, I play DCUO, Mass Effect 2, and COD: Black Op's without ever having had a single problem once.

Oh and I also played Dead Space 2 without a single hiccup. If I didn't have problems with games like those which have large open maps (DCUO) and really good quality cutscenes (Mass Effect 2) and fast paced action (Dead Spance, COD) I don't see why it wouldn't be able to handle Fallout.

And now to top it off Logan in Camp Searchlight doesn't give me a key to the stupid freaking Firestation. Did the quest to go to the guy in Nipton but the guy there told me to go away and then Logan when I killed him didn't have the freakin key. New Vegas is freakin busted to crap.

it isn't your system, but it is a possibility that the consoles RAM isn't sufficient enough to support the game. Computer specs request a minimum RAM that's barely comparable to the ones that consoles use.

So Bethesda and Obsidian don't give a [censored] that this game doesn't work, I have the same issues as you. I will never buy another of their games again.

To make the game play nicer, try these steps.
-Turn off autosave
-disable your network connection
-boot the ps3 in safe mode and run the system restore utility, it will clean up any corrupted data

And last but not least, before you start an important section, save, exit the game, turn off the ps3, then go back and start fresh.

I gave up on the game a while ago, and am frankly amazed that Sony allowed these companies to sell us a game that doesn't work. I cannot return an opened game, so where is the accountability? Someone owes me $59.99, Bethesda, Obsidian, or Sony. For some reason when I call, it's never any of their faults, and I'm the only one with the problem, but when I ask the retail store clerks, everyone they know has the EXACT same issue... That is how you lose customers.

Wow... that's ridiculous. Yeah I've only played it for about 4 hours max without it freezing up. I've also noticed SOOOOOOOO many glitches in the game. Example: Clanden when you discover the "Dead" prosttute in the torture room for me she was up walking around, Zombie maybe? She wasn't dead but it still let me examine her to determine she was tortured to death. And the NPC's will be sitting in chairs awkwardly, like half their body hanging out. Then there's the Boomer Museum kid, he was possessed I think cuz his head was going crazy all over the place.
But on a lighter note, I thought the drunk women NCR Troopers dancing half naked in the water fountain was hilarious.

Oh and a few of the NPC's when spoken to the subtitle part where you can read what they say will be totally different from what they are saying. Way to test your game Bethesda lol.

i feel your pain. codbo was terrible for me, so i'm quite surprised you've not had problems with that one.

NV is a great game. it's just horribly marred by tech issues. QA, where are you? there is no way they did not know about this stuff. this is a disturbing trend with ps3 releases lately. dev's push the game out the door with the intention of patching fixes. not a good strategy. some recent games i've played where tech issues were overwhelming: NV, MAG, codbo, kz3. Major releases whose forums are flooded with freezing (primarily) and assorted tech complaints. can anyone tell me why the first four years of ps3 games i've played had minimal (if any) freezing issues?

there has been a lot of specualtion about ps3 firmware being the culprit. version 3.56 actually has two versions. try going to the system update and searching via internet. i was able to update 3.56 to 3.56. crazy i know, but it doesn't prompt you to DL the "right" version of 3.56. this has helped (but not eliminated) some problems for me.

there's many things that might help, but the culprit is the awful game engine and that is something we can't fix. i bought my copy for $25 and i think that was a very fair price for what i was sold (tech wise, content wise i would have very happily paid full price).

dead money has increased the problems around forlorn hope and the abandoned bos bunker area. massive frame rate crashes with high probability for freezing. freeside is awful. doing freeside quests is a guaranteed four to five freezes in two hours. old mormon fort area is the worst. westside frame rate crashes but i don't spend any time there so i don't know how bad it really is. end of game save files and end game quests like to hang on loading screens. the list goes on....

i don't have the frequency of issues OP seems to have, i consider my issues hovering on the tolerable but unacceptable level.

as long as dlc is still coming out, they still have people working on these issues. i don't know how big the team is or how much they'll get accomplished, but they are still working on these issues. it's a shame they let it out the door like this.

I might be mistaken but I think the title of this section of the forum was something like "PlayStation 3 Issues". So I'm discussing PS3 here.

Are you suggesting that the PS3 is a totally botched platform where the ability to play games are totally random? How come I can play ALL other games perfectly except this one?

Or might you suggest the the BluRay media is so inferior to every other media that data is read from it in random ways on different machines?

Are you really suggesting that buying a game that is "certified" for Playstation 3 generally is a risk-taking? The game works "ohh so great" on some individual machines but can't hardly start on others? To remind you, I'm discussing PS3 here. Are you really serious in suggesting that the experience of a published game on the PS3 platform should be a function of luck? Especially when ALL other titles bought for my machine works.

Let's apply Occam's Razor here. PS3's works randomly? Nah. BluRay can't be reliably read? Nah. All games ever played on my bad machine read by my bad BluRay player plays without freezing because two bad factors (random execution of code paired with random data read from disc results in correctly executing code)? Nah. People in the PS3 problem section stating having no problems what so ever tells the truth?. Nah again. The PS3 version of Fallout: New Vegas is a piece of crap published by incompetent money hungry low-life scums incapable of managing the situation? Closing in.

One reason to buy a GAMING CONSOLE is to KNOW that if I BUY a game and put the disc into the console IT WILL WORK. What part of that did the publishers and developers of this tile not understand? What part did you not understand?

Are you still implying I'm paranoid? In that case I'll state you're being paid.
