Tips for new players!

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:01 pm

We all know that The Elder Scrolls games are not like your regular RPG, they have complex game mechanics which can sometimes be intimidating for new rpg players.
I wanted to make this thread where all you experienced players can give us a tip that would made you really happy if someone told you that when you was still new. :)
Maybe we can all learn something that we didn't knew here.. :)

I will go first,

You can pickpocket and steal the gold you just gave to a skill trainer - which means you can get training for free :) Just make sure your pickpocket skill is high enough.

You can manually mine ore veins by equipping a pickaxe as a weapon and swinging at the vein.

You can attack enemies by equipping a weapon (or spell) in your right hand and pulling the trigger button.

Hmmm, this is a rather good thread if one wants quick tips rather than reading a guide!

Lets see...

Holding down both mouse buttons at the same time creates a new power attack that is stronger and longer, but costs more stamina.

To recharge enchanted items, select them in the 'weapons' section of the inventory and press the corresponding 'recharge button' (its R2 on PS3, but there should be icons on the bottom of the screen telling you which button it is).

The higher the price of the potion your making in Alchemy, the more experience you'll get.

To fill a soul gem, you need either the Soul Trap spell, or a weapon with this enchantment. After you cast it on your intended target, you must kill them in a specific time to fill the soul gem. The stronger the creature, the better the soul, which allows you to enchant equipment with more powerful effect or more charges and lets you recharge soul gems faster.

Human souls can only be put in Black Soul gems.

Take your time and really look at the environment. Walk when you can. There is a lot to see along the way.

You can sprint on horseback.

Make a save right before Hadvar asks "who are You"

You don't have to join any guild, their is a way around them if you do some research.
Spoiler
When you HAVE to go to the mages guild, shout instead of use magic! It will still say you are a member but you don't have to do any of the quests. ( it will make sense when you get there )

Money can literally be found everywhere. Urns usually have quiet a bit of gold and the odd potion tucked in them.

Even 360 users can hot key 2 items. Add items to favorite list, for example a bow and a sword. Next open the favorites menu by pushing up on D-pad. Highlight the bow and push left on D-pad. Highlight the sword and push right on D-pad.

You’re welcome. Now you can quickly switch between ranged/melee or favorite defensive then offensive spell without pausing the action.

nMaybe not toilets, but when you run across a small stool next to a bucket in a confined room, that is a bathroom......

*facepalm*

Really? Damn, it would have been nice to know that 400 game hours ago.

You wouldn't lie to me, would you? I'll feel even worse if this is printed in the manual or the in-game Help section. XP
