I will not argue that Battletoads NES is probably the most brutal game out there along with Megaman 1. With Megaman 1 it was SO unforgiving and there were NO saves so you had to sit down playing it all the way through.

Would have to say though my "hardest" game is a toss up between Bayonetta and DMC3 on Dante Must Die mode *original not special edition*. Bayonetta was brutal but I still remember dieing so many times in DMC3 until I finally got the hang of it. Even then it was beyond brutal as you cranked up the difficult to DMD mode. Facing Virgil for the first time on DMD was a blast as the guy used his phantom sword attack in tandem with his other attacks.

Dealing with Bayonetta it was challenging due to the necessity to his those action quick time events as fast as possible. Even dodging which was a core element to the game became tricky but was still fun.

1. Devil May Cry 3 - Hardest setting Dante Must Die Mode (Leaving out the 1 hit = death thing cause that was just stupid imho)
2. Bayonetta
3. Megaman 1
4. Battletoads NES

YES! The King of Kong is the best video game documentary in existence. Billy Mitchell is probably one of my favorite people.

Also, agreed on your second point. Agreed hard.

Billy Mitchel the stuck up wanna-be celebrity? Isn't he the bad guy? :P

FINALLY! Glad to see I'm not the only person here who found Golden Axe hard. :cryvaultboy:

Oh, no. Golden Axe was damn hard. In fact, only players using the dwarf dude had any chance of completing it.

2. Fallout 2

wat

Only thing really difficult about FO2 were the occasional random encounters which butchered poor Ms/Mr. Level One, and those could be avoided with a decent Outdoorsman skill.

For me, in no particular order:
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Nocturne (and just about every other Atlus game)
  • Old Nintendo http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneHitPointWonder games, such as Contra/Probotector, Rush 'n' Attack, Gradius/Lifeforce, etc, etc. There's a reason it's called "Nintendo Hard".
  • The Witcher 2 in the early game if you don't use the Quen sign
  • Dragon Age: Origins, unless you play on Easy Modo (and http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w141/orlmente/602942feb4fae12a3edd824ee3a0e0cb.png), or if you break the game by making an all-mage party

Shadow of the Beast 1 on the Amiga was hard as hell, I don't even know how I've managed to finish the game without cheats.

What video games in your opinion are the hardest ever made:

1. Demon souls
2. The Lion King for NES
3. Dark Souls
4. Ninja Gaiden
5. Battletoads for NES

Now that is the first time I've ever seen anyone else mention that game. It's the same as the SNES version, right? I played that one... never beat it.

The one that stands out for me was Wargasm. It was absolutely ridiculous.

He's just portrayed as the bad guy in the movie. Both Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell have said that they were and still are on much friendlier terms then what was shown.

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl People's Soup mod on Master difficulty.

I actually broke down and cried several times while playing it. I almost picked up cutting myself as a way of feeling something other than depression and stress.

I play video games for FUN , not to get pissed and throw my controller at the wall...

Doesn't really surprise me, although the director said that Billy Mitchell is worse than he was portrayed.

I never played Wargasm or that Lion King game people have mentioned in here and I have no idea WTF a QWOP is.

Blade Of Darkness was pretty damned hard in some places depending on what character you were playing. Fun game tho.
Aliens vs. Predator. It was damned easy to run out of ammo and it was dark as hell.
Swordquest on the Atari 2600 because it made no frackin sense and had annoying parts.. :P
Drakan: Order of the Flame. I don't remember much. Maybe it wasn't that hard but I hated those damned cave crickets that always seemed to kick my asss.
