Trees. Your going to love this.

Nice textures. Maybe a little more variation in hue of individual leaves would be a nice alteration though.
yes, that was also my first critical impression. maybe I can do something there on the colors.

The oak leaves detail is wonderful! Don't worry about collision for now. It will probably be figured out soon, and if it doesn't you can always reuse collision branch from some vanilla static for tree trunk at least. The canopy don't even have to have collision.

yup, I have thought of using some tricks with the existing collisions to at least make a collision for the base trunk.

Moar screens of different tree models, after adjusting the textures (I am now on imagebanana.com I hope that works better for showcasing the WIP. Bad thing is that it`s "ad-ridden" but also has higher resolutions): http://www.imagebanana.com/view/3h12jipd/3.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/em9ikqeo/5.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/xiw1134a/6.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/dpxsa6ql/7.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/o3xt2dlb/1.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/odrnrer9/2.jpg --- http://www.imagebanana.com/view/bolme5tz/4.jpg

Uh, I get some hideous pop-ups which cover the pics and open new window when I try to close them. I suggest Photobucket.com where you can create your own albums (both public and private) and others like me can follow your albums. I use it for years without any problems.

I definitely like this image sharing option more than imageshack or whatever you were using. The ads are annoying, but a quick right click will let me view the image at it's full, unobscured resolution, and it loads quickly. This is how I normally like to view images like this, and imageshack (and many other sites) make that hell, because to get full size you have to click on them after it has loaded slowly and then it slowly loads another page while also opening popup windows I have to close. Some image sites won't even let me right click normally and open their own menu. Anyway, on the subject of the trees themselves, they look magnificent. It's really cool seeing them all together in a forest as well. http://img7.imagebanana.com/img/o3xt2dlb/1.jpg This picture is my favourite. It looks so natural, I can't wait to see what can be done with these models once the bugs are worked out and they can be used as resources.

Yeah, I can`t use my imageshack account now anymore because I have reached the 500 pic limit for the free account and I am certainly not going to pay for an account there (plus they are ad ridden, too).

Btw, I think if anyone wants to make forests with these models, they also should try to retexture the grass and ground textures to fit to the new trees. Or just retexture the trees themselves to fit better to the environment. In the example pic above I only placed the models on the vanilla landscape and didn`t adjust any landscape textures (I think they would need to be more green, maybe dark green, as opposed to brown tundra right now).

That looks great! My fav is http://img6.imagebanana.com/img/3h12jipd/3.jpg

I prefer photobucket over imageshack as well, but only downside is (for some reason) the images are much smaller. Compare this photobucket image to the same one on imageschack above for instance: http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj624/ztree1/3.jpg

I've had the same issue with photobucket, and I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of their official image dimensions restrictions. Also, on a pedantic note, the image above is imageban. I think Imageshack has similar restrictions to photobucket, though I'm not sure.

I don't know for sure, but I reckon the pine forest (or failing that, try the Reach) ground textures (excluding maybe the grassless one which has pine needles) would look pretty good with those trees.

Just wait a bit until we have finished our Isengard and Firien Wood regions in MERP. Those trees are especially intended for these regions and I'm absolutely sure that they will make awesome forests!

Exactly. These newest trees will be called the "Firien-wood" package. See: http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Firien_wood but will be also used at Isengard amongst others. Noridesir will be generating the forests.

Also, let me use this opportunity to make a little call for my fellow 3d modelers out there, who may be reading this--> Please consider joining the Merp-team at http://merp.straygenius.com/forum/index.php , because we still need your strenght and talent and 3d abilitys. So that`s basically a recruiting effort from my side - please join our cause - :violin: :foodndrink: and of course everyone else is also totally welcome to join the team.

I'm working on new woodland ground textures right now, including different leaf covers, moss and grasses that are more green. I'm missing photos of more green grasses, which can't be found here for another month or soo, but I'm going to Ireland for a week, and after that I hopfully have all the green photos I need to finish :)

No pressure.... But so far they are looking really good.
It will take some time to finish them all, have a loong list of photos I taken this week just waitning to be made in to ground textures, and I didn't bring a computer on this trip. I have at least ten different sands, and at least as many rocks just to start with

Edit: 29 sand ground textures and counting...

Ztree, I was just informed that there seems to be a way to fix the collision problem with meshes.
I'm not sure if you know about it already, but I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it.

http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3562

Edit: Apparently, it creates high-poly meshes that are kind of messy :/. You can try it though.

Looking great! I mean wow! Skyrim really lacks diversity in trees and a couple of groves wouldn't hurt.
These are from Sweden:

But I guess everyone knows what a grove looks like. Wouldn't mind a small patches of woodlands here and there, maybe in the Reach or Whiterun Hold.

In my mind this is exactly how I want woods to look in game, great picutres :)
We need green undergrowth. Not sure if it will do with ground textures only or if new "grasses" needs to be made as well. I'm thinking variation of ferns, ground covering ivy, and lots of other plants I don't know the name of.

I agree, more undergrowth is absolutely necessary for the realistic feel. Most games with forests in them, underestimate this fact. Unfortunately, I did also underestimate it when I made the Firienwood trees for Merp.
The question is how many vanilla models can be used for the undergrowth (with retextures).
