If I wouldn′t like the appearance of my character, even if it′s only a detail, I would scrap him immediately and without regret.

Bah, orcs are meant to be ugly. I've never had this problem, or yes I have it's often the eye shape. I just change it using the console or start over it's not a big deal as I often discover this at the start.

My Orc warrior is super ugly, but as I'm so good looking in real life it's nice to RP an ugly character!!

Can so relate to this now as a level 45 Khajiit, no longer a kitten ;o)
In Fallout (vegas I think) you could change the character at a certain point, but hey, that's the future for ya.
Maybe a DLC will have the option but not sure how they'd write it into the storyline if at all possible.

"...and the Nord bashes your face so hard ....you become an Orc!"

"showracemenu" is bugged if you change six or race. It works ok if you just change hair or other appearance.

This. I want to change the character's hairstyle at least, but it would be really awesome to change the face, eyes, etc. too.

I've restarted 5 or 6 times in the past couple of days trying to get a character to look right.
Heh yeah... I soo want the ability to change Your appereance. At least like in fallout 3 and NV. :)
Hope something like that will be added in some sort of DLC... Many people want that and wish for that, have asked for that for a long time.

Perhaps "ugly" is not the right word. Because ugly can be preferable or cool, if done right (like someone said about Orcs). Most of my characters are like that.. the problem is simply getting it right. I'd restart if it doesn't turn out correctly.

Not caring at all is a completely different thing. Some people don't think about design or have any preconception about things. Which is cool too.. I wish I could be like that sometimes. But when I make a rpg character, I get a concept and sort of have an image in mind to "cast" in the role, as I would in a movie. I've been this way forever. Even when playing pen and paper dnd as a kid, I would have drawn the character at least once. And in pen and paper, it doesn't matter at all. You don't see anything. It's merely for my own satisifaction.

I kind of agree with the op. Except, on the ps3 my character didn't look that great texture wise to begin with. There is an awful grid pattern on the skin at character creation, and I chose green eyes for a character, but in game she had the dark blue eyes. They eyes that appear green in the creation screen don't seem to reflect that color in game. Sometimes the shadows and lighting look really blocky in a character's face. I did have a moment inside a building that was lit by candlelight or a fireplace where my character's appearance rivaled some of the amazing pc screenshots I've seen here. I wish it was more consistent.
