Ugly Characters do you start over?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:29 pm

Here something that really forced me to take a long break from skyrim. After playing with two different chars for a long time,i felt like i need to make something new.I played around with different ideas/different builds...but very often after i created a char(which sometimes took me up to two hours)i found that it looks different ingame. They often looked totally different depending on the lighting or daytime. Then i found the left eye was kinda distorted or the facial complexion looked bad or i hated the name.I mean if you going to play a char for 50 hours+ it has to look alright and have a okay name.So i found myself deleting the char and start over again. Its a plague it seems.Any expirience with that kind of thing?someone?.anyone?

Without the paper doll in the inventory screen there's basically no point to face creation. I don't even know what my character looks like.

I am very happy that "showracemenu" exists, I feel sorry for people on consoles, redoing Helgen again and again gets very annoying.

I don't understand the question. OP, name creation is all on you, the game has no part in that. If you're not satisfied with the name you created then why did you settle on that name in the first place? Me thinks one doth sound to fickle...

As for the complexion of your character and the lighting issues, you should really keep in mind that that is very realistic. Whether you want to believe it or not YOU (and I and all others) look different in different lighting situations. So, realize that and deal with it. The game will never let you look exactly like you did in the perfect lighting of the character creator view.

I don't know why you characters eye seems distorted. Perhaps that's a display issue or a driver issue or something technical, but it certainly should not be doing that. I've never had that problem. I'm sorry you have that problem. That would get annoying if you spend a lot of time trying to take screen shots. But, if you're not taking screenshots then why would you even be spending so much time looking at your own characters face??

I am well over 200 hours into my game on the same character and I have put on just about every piece of clothing and armor I've come across, but I don't really understand how you can spend 3 hours in character creation and then not be happy with your character after that. Maybe you need a mod that turns off all lighting and atmospherics so you get the stagnant lighting that you used to create your character. Otherwise, I think your boned.

actually most of my characters could be considered ugly but if i notice something too odd i may start over and recreate the face without the displeasing anomaly.

Did you guys notice how ugly most nose shapes and eyes are.Especially on the nords?...I mean they improved the character creation alot since oblivion but they could have done better.okay if youre on PC you could download a few mods but ill wait for the goty edition pc.I did the same thing with oblivion, bought for xbox and than the goty edition for pc later.Argonians and Khajiit look great now...they looked horrible in oblivion...well actually all the mint races looked bad in oblivion. And there were no beards!...how bad is that?

So i think ill wait untill the next patch goes online and then create something.I really hope that the kill cams for magic in archery wil be in.Something for werewolf players would be nice to(the rumored werewolf skill tree hopefully).

Well i dont know what youre trying to point out with your statement but some people care about the looks and the name.If you dont care about those thing, fine.but stop acting like you know it all.Opinions are like a%&holes, everybodys got one.

Yes, definitely. It svcks playing on a console where you can't change your appearance whenever you want to.

Although it's a lot easier with this little trick I learned, just make a save just before you enter the character creation screen. Change the face around until you like it, but DON'T ENTER THE NAME. Just open the menue and load the most recent save for your char.

Bam! Instant plastic surgery.

Back when Oblivion first came out I started making a new character very early on a Saturday morning. I kept tweaking, tweaking, tweaking. I couldn't get what I wanted, it was really frustrating. I was finally satified with my work around 10:00 that night. I felt embarrassed: I had spent a whole day doing nothing but moving a bunch of sliders around.

I've been a lot happier with the appearance of my characters in Skyrim though. My first Skyrim character was practically an unaltered premade. I played that character for about 50 hours. That's really unusual for me.

Thats great!....as i said earlier, character creation has been improved alot since oblivion.I would love to make an argonian some day...but i have no idea what he would be like...a warrior..or mage...what background or motivation he/she would have...i agree,Skyrim Characters look alot better than oblivion ones.

It's usually the eyebrows. Almost always the eyebrows that cause a restart for me.

I am absolutely the same way! I try really hard to get the face just right. I have started many characters only to scrap them when I get outside of the cave at the beginning! Still, these faces are so much better than previous games! If it isn't just right I have no problem starting again.

I don't do this because I'm always really carefull when I create my character. It took me soooooo long the to make the character first time!

Many of us do as well. But in the right shading...

For example. Sometimes my Shephard's eyebrows completely disappear in the right shading in certain spots of Mass Effect 1. They looked like an alien race all their own.
Same thing happens here, albeit to a lesser extent. (There's no fixed spot cutscenes for our characters, which lead to the weird ME1 issue)

On PC: Press '~' type in 'showracemenu'.

And there you can rename, change your characters gender and even the race. Basically ALL of character creation.

However one thing I did notice was when I changed my wood elf to a female it put it to level 17. With 150 150 and 150 on all 3 stats you can level up. My wood elf was actually 16.

SO yea something like that may happen.

I personally did a quicksave before I attempted this and decided to load that up instead of my new character.

It just didn't feel like THE legend that I was trying to create out of my character!

It doesn't help that the CK doesn't have slider options beyond whats in game >_>, when you pick a preselect, your STUCK with the shape of that head, orientation/size of the eyes, and limited on pretty much everything else

Profound Sadness.

Or even change race, but that would be weird

Annoying, yes, but I have found the most efficient way of running through Helgen Keep and can finish the opening tutorial in less than five minutes. That includes the character creation (I have made the same Bosmer about 10 different times).

*guilty* And I'm still not really happy with one of my char's, Like most everything about the face, except the eye's, but I HATE his skin tone. I don't know if it's my tv or what but my char's skin tone is realy dark, which in and of itself is ok, but in some light's he look's like lobster. I may have to start this build over...but I'm gonna try.. L33ty's trick, so I don't loose what he did...if it don't work...oh well, at least I have the save started at "and who are you" don't av to right the wagon...lol
