Uhhh... The Nirnroots?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 1:41 pm

I laughed when I first read this thread. Frankly, It looked hilarious. And, I was glad it wasn't happening to me.

Alas, around 60 hours in I am starting to see the same problem.

It is clearly related to visiting a spot more than once.

I removed the root, and the glow remains. Forever.

We're all going to start seeing these nirnroots from hell.
It's clearly an issue related to playtime.

I just started receiving this problem after 80 hours of gameplay. It does seem to be effecting Nirnroots that have been passed but not picked, I noticed it with the nirnroot by whiterun, which is essentially my base camp so I go there quite often. Picking the nirnroot does not remove previous glow rings, and they must be removed via console.

I have no mods or .ini tweaks - this is an issue that definitely needs to be resolved soon and could potentially corrupt files after extended play.

I thought this was a funny glitch and that I was fortunate not to have it.

But around 80 hours of gameplay, voila and my nirnroots became bright little suns!

I used this mod to remove the glare (which used to persist there even after I harvest the nirnroot!)

Removes the glow.

That removes the glow but doesn't address the issue. Eventually it will clog up save files still.

I'm having the same issue, I do not know what triggered it, but the nirnroots are getting pretty shiny near Whiterun >_<

I'm on pc, should I post my dxdiag?

The Crimson Nirnroot in Blackreach do this as well.

I walk everywhere in game, and the exterior world is getting pretty horrible at night with all these giant gradiated white light balls everywhere, now Blackreach is getting the same way.

I hope ps3 users are enjoying having their lag [censored] by nirnroots :disco:

our PC's can handle it, even if it gets ridiculous. They can't.

This has just started happening to me, I believe that as more hours are put in the game by players, more and more of us will end up with this problem

I've been using markfordelete on the glow, this stops them being saved, but it is ridiculous, they obviously did not mark the glow for delete after the nirnroot is picked, I stay away from the nirnroot farm because it's blinding!

Edit, forgot to add, this effect also seems to apply to a certain NPC you steal a horse for, when he gets to whiterun stables he just stands in the same spot and begins to multiply after each load of a save, been upto 3 of him in my game all jostling for the same position marker.

Oh THAT'S JUST GREAT. Once again Bethesda, bravo.

I posted about this as well http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1272271-nirnroot/ and it includes a screenshot so people can see what it looks like.

EDIT: BTW picking them in my case hasn't helped, as the plant and sound is removed but the shader remains.

had that issue with 50% of my nirnroots lol.. its classic.. its like hey... nirnroot.. oh already picked that one :-( FAIL

You shouldn't be trying to fix a problem that isn't actually a problem at all.

The increasing glow you are seeing is a pre-planned time-scaled game event, as the nirnroots slowly start to take over Skyrim, in preparation for the your first DLC...

The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim: The Chronicles of Nirnia.

I noticed this issue on the very first nirnroot I found. It wasn't near as bright as in some of the screenshots, but still enough for me to notice from far away. And I haven't played more than 6 hours due to the bsod hard crash problem. :-(

I love this bug! My nirnroots are practically supernova's :shocking: now. I use them as guide posts for waterways in the wild. Just imagine if Skyrim was real life! With these nirns no one would ever fail to find water in the wild. Heck, even in the daylight it is like having mini suns flare up from the ground.

If Bethesda played their own game for any length of time at all they would have easily caught this bug.

Unfortunately, to Bethesdas shame, this bug does prove they do not. All one has to do is rack up a (not too unreasonable) bunch of hours by casually playing and the effect starts to become quite noticeable.

So I've noticed this for a while, but the nirnroots in my game are getting steadily brighter.

ATM the aura a few of them are giving off isn't too far off the suns brightness, and it looks whack. The glow is also observable from very far away, I can see 3 "minisuns" from the boat in dawnstar.

Any fixes?

I was wondering what the heck was going on there....walked over to one a few days ago observing the changes in brightness as a walked through this suspicious white glowing ball.

I'm on 90+ hours of gameplay on one character and have NOT experienced this issue with the Nirnroot. They glow, but not to the point that it looks like a mini-sun. I saved approximately 50 savegames, and have since started to reuse them starting at save 1. I use quicksave often as well.

You use quicksave, but do you use quickload?

I never do (caused too much trouble in previous games), and haven't yet seen any supernova-Nirnroots either.

I always pick each Nirnroot as soon as I see 'em so I've never seen these "suns" you people talk about

(I think I've noticed the glow getting consistently brighter on my Xbox version, but I'll have to pay more attention now to be sure)

I also had a case of the nirnroots on my first and second playthroughs. Those saves corrupted. My last character's saves also corrupted, but no sign of the nirnroots this time around.

...Patrolling Skyrim almost makes you wish there hadn't been a nuclear winter?

I pick every nirnroot, so I never really noticed it before. It does explain the few times where I'd pick one and the glow didn't go away, though. So be wary, even if you don't see it now, it could happen to you!

Seriously though, all save game bloat svcks. :(

This is how I've fixed it:

Super-ultra-glowing-nirnroot, pick it up, glow stays, open console, click the glow, type "disable", hit enter. (Repeat until all glow is gone!)

No big deal?
