Uhhh... The Nirnroots?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 1:19 am

You use quicksave, but do you use quickload?

I never do (caused too much trouble in previous games), and haven't yet seen any supernova-Nirnroots either.

I never use quickload and am experiencing the issue.

This is how I've fixed it:

Super-ultra-glowing-nirnroot, pick it up, glow stays, open console, click the glow, type "disable", hit enter. (Repeat until all glow is gone!)

No big deal?

I've been doing that too, but it's annoying to have to do it with every single nirnroot, even if it's just the ones in areas that I visit often. I never actually visted the (a?) nirnroot farm, for example—I never had the map marker show up, or anything—but I passed by often enough that I started to get noticeable lag when I was anywhere near it. Took about 15 minutes to get rid of all of the glows, and I'm pretty sure those ones respawn too :sadvaultboy: (unless respawning nirnroot was a bug that's been fixed by one of the patches).

It's a bug that definitely affects playability, and contributes to savegame bloat which is a problem in itself. It should be fixed on those grounds alone—nevermind the fact that none of the console players who are also experiencing this issue can just open up a console and delete everything.

I think people don't get this problem because people pick the root. I know if I see one, I pick it. And they don't re-spawn, so there is a limited amount in the game world.

Even if your not making potions, there are some quests that want them, so getting them is a good idea anyway. XD

Maybe other shaders/light sources/whatever is reapplying itself we just don't see it, but surely our system does by decreasing performance? Just an idea of why many reporting decreased framerates /giant save game files etc..

I just laughed......i noticed the ever incressing Brightness also and this was my thought....

in Oblivion we all complained because you could pass right bye a nin root and not HEAR it....now the sound is loud, but Beth must have heard all us complaining and thought...

Ohh YA, well how about we make them BRIGHT also then you can see the mini suns from 10 miles away....hahahhaha

To get rid of the persistent glows, you can use the console for this while you are in the game.

Select the glow (it will come up as an FF prefixed number where the selected object is displayed), then use the following commands:

Disable (check that the glow disappears and not something else)
MarkForDelete

Repeat as necessary until the duped glows are gone. That will stop them from rendering and the game will destroy and recycle the references when the cell is unloaded.

Maybe it's like Jet Li's "The One" movie. The fewer of them there are, the more powerful the rest become.

Nope, i haven't picked any yet and mine are still really bright.

I've noticed the super-glow, but I've never heard of it crashing anything. Has anyone actually had the game crash, or lost a save due to this effect? Sounds like bogus data taken for granted to me. The minisuns are funny though... and yes, I've had them in my game.

I never actually visted the (a?) nirnroot farm, for example—I never had the map marker show up, or anything—

I visited after 300+ hours with 1 character, having passed along the nearby road countless times, and the glow from that patch of Nirnroot was so bright I was concerned it might do some permanent damage to my display screen, I didn't dare turn my character round and look at it!

I don't pick every nirnroot that I see (don't need them most of the time) and some of them have a vast glow radius now, disabling the glow with the console is not a very practical fix when some of them require multiple glow effects disabled before it's all gone. I do hope Bethesda has taken note of this issue as well as the never-resetting ash piles (and whatever other unneeded references may be cluttering up save games) because I'm now at the point where I can no longer continue with that character due to lag, CTDs, and textures and objects failing to load - all started once my save game exceeded 20 Mb, so I can't help feeling that this sort of thing is causing my save files to be unnecessarily large and interfering with smooth running of the game that was perfectly OK until a few hours of play ago!

Oh, Don't get me wrong!

I also have CTD when trying to leave some areas, or to enter Understone Keep, purple textures and then a ship-load of CTD!! And glowing nirnroots :/

You mean aside from the sort of ring they make when you get close?

If not, that noise is normal.

I've just been using disable, will it still stay in the save file if you don't use markfordelete ?

ya no clue looked at the pics you guys posted nothing like that for me and i spam harvested my first character until he corrupted save at around level 35 plenty of nirnroots never saw anything like that....this was all pre patch 1.3. Since I have been playing with my sound up a bit louder and a new character post 1.3 and the only thing that struck me as stange about them was a strange hum/ring sound whenever I was near one. I turned my speakers off to ensure it wasn't my display wining and it def was coming from my speakers. Guess if thats normal cool but its def annoying. Nirnroots seem like a troll imo

Same here: at the start they were nicely smooth glowing. Now they look like freaking mini nuclear explosions! I even can not visit the Nirnroot farm. Well, I can but I can not see 1 thing because it is just one big bright light bubble

Yeah, happened to me as well. I was creeping around in the dark when i saw a light in the distance and thought to myself 'maybe there's loot to be had' and swiftly headed towards it. As i got closer to the source of the light, i drew out my bow and started to walk slower, hoping to catch my prey unprepared. However a strange sound started to distract my senses, getting stronger and stronger as i was nearing my target. Preparing for a confrontation while slowly advancing towards the now strange glow in the dark, i could feel my heart beat faster and stronger as if telling me a mighty opponent was lying in wait. I charged from behind the rocks to make sure i had their backs in front of me and perhaps finish it quickly with a shot in the neck or at least weaken them enough to allow me wield my daggers with deadly efficiency, but then...I stopped. Sweating and breathing heavily, I was stunned by what i had seen. It just could not seem possible at the time...That which had managed to rile me so wildly, something that has not happened since a deadly clash with a master necromancer a while back in a dank, dark cave far away from here... was a nirnroot. That's right, a nirnroot! ... What the hell, man?

Surelly, but being a new game, previous games rules could not apply. Just to be sure, select an object and disable it, go to another cell and return, then enable the object again. If the object reappears you do need to type markfordelete.
