I'm replaying FFIX right now. I've seen someone streaming FF13, and I'm horribly disappointed at how terrible it plays. It only has one ''main'' sidequest, which is monster hunting from FFX, but back in force. It looks pretty and runs well, but the battle system looks pretty boring to me.

I really enjoyed FFIX. I fondly remember a lot of aspects from that game. I beat the main game without a guide, which was a feat for me back in the day. I remember beating up on the black dragons on that one island.. with Zidane, Steiner, Vivi, and the chef creature thing. Then I'd try to fight the big orb thing and get my butt handed to me very quickly.

Well I'm loking forward to FF XIII it looks like an awsome game! The First Final Fantasy game I've played was FF II (aka IV) then afterwords FFI on the NES. FF IV, VI, VII, X & X-2 and XII are my favorites, I like FFI on the PS1 and PSP. The ones I don't care for where II, V, VIII and IX. I never played III and I don't mean the FF III (aka VI).

Yeah, I realise that. :P

I was surprised at the amount of non-love for FFIX. I was browsing forums, and I've never seen that much praise given out to it. Heck, I think I've seen more people compliment FFVIII than FFIX. I've always loved it, but... people have different opnions.

I love Final Fantasy. My favorites are VIII, IX, and Tactics. I like VII for specific characters :cough: Tifa :cough: but Cloud seriously annoys me as a character. Squall and Zidane are much better main characters if you ask me. I've never understood all the love for Aerith either. She never seemed all that useful to me as a character, unlike Rinoa. Speaking of which, Rinoa is also one of my favorite characters, which has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that her and Tifa look basically identical. :P

VII was fun, don't get me wrong, but I definitely don't think it was the best in the series. I tried to get into X, really I did, but the characters were just so unbearably annoying. Even Selphie from VIII can't compare to Rikku in terms of annoyance. XII was okay, but I lost the will to beat it about halfway through. I dunno, it just got boring, which is a first for Final Fantasy on the first playthrough. Tactics I've beaten twice, but now that I know the story, I can't seem to do it again.

I'm interested in XIII and I'll surely play it, but I don't know if I'll buy it or not. I guess it depends.

Out of curiosity, for all you players of VIII, have any of you beaten the Omega Weapon? Me and one of my friends have been trying to see who can beat it first, but neither of us have succeeded as of yet.

Question: How to beat Omega Weapon?

Answer:
Spoiler
With Holy Wars. Get them by beating the best card players in Balamb Garden, the last of whom carries the Gilgamesh card, which can be converted to 10 Holy Wars. One of these things will turn all your characters invincible for a decent length of time. After that, it's just a process of either entering the fight with everyone nearly dead and ready to use Limit Breaks, or bring in a whole bunch of Aura spells.

There's various influences from previous Final Fantasy games on the newer characters

If you look at Tifa, Rinoa, and Garnet they all have that black haired classic Final Fantasy girl look to them. You can also see the influences of Selphie's face and hairstyle on Eiko in Final Fantasy IX.

The character models for Yuffie and Rikku also look a lot alike and their personalities also seem somewhat similar. I'm sure that you can keep going back and finding more examples but these are just the major ones that I've noticed

the only ones I've played are ff12, ff10 and ff7 crisis core(the prequel on psp). I don't like ff10 anymore, It was good to start but it got bad fast. The story, the random encounters, the linear play. I hate how you can't go where you want until nearly the end of the game. ff12 was much better. It's still my favourite by far, there's too much that's good about it. Crisis core was good as well, I enjoyed the story, especially the ending.

FFX was my favorite of the series IMO

mainly because of the sphere grid system

Funnily enough, they're all the protagonist's lover. (Or a wanna-be until very late. :P)

I've been doing some reading on XIV, and I like what I'm seeing. The Armoury System in particular I'm interested in.

mainly because of the sphere grid system

That's one of the reasons I didn't like it

I thought it was too simplistic and dumbed down from the previous systems (the most complicated being FFVIII's)

For me I liked the Aeon system and thought it actually had one of the best summon system of the whole series

FFXII's system was also interesting but I don't think it was implemented in the right way and you couldn't make specific character classes until the end (I made Penelo be a ninja  )

No love for FFIX? :( That subtitle was a quote from the end of FFIX, if I remember correctly. My favourite FF is both FFIX and FFIV, with FFV and FFVI right behind. Sure, FFVII is really good too, but I played the rest mentioned here before FFVII, so I never had that much love for it.

FFX kinda annoyed me. The only characters I liked were both Jecht and Auron. Everyone else, bleh...

Spoiler
Porom and Palom were cured by the elder, but how did he do that? Did he journey to Treno to get the Super-soft? Last time I played it, when Tellah cast Eunsa, it didn't work because the twins cast Stone of their own free will.

Am I the only one who thought "Meteo" sounded much better than Meteor? Translation error in FFIV apparently.

FFIX is by far my favorite. I loved every aspect of it really, from battle system, to summons and the card game(Tetra I think it's called...?).
I also very much enjoyed FFVI, VII and XII. I really, really did not like VIII... I can't really say why but I just could not get into it or enjoy it at all no matter how many times I tried to. I thought FFX was very good to( I see a lot of hate for it here for one reason or another) I thought the world was memorable, as were the characters. It had a good summon system, good battle system and great music. It will never compare to IX for me but it was still a good experience.
One of my very favorite things about FF games has to be the music. They have some of the most memorable music of any video games imo. You can here songs like Cosmo Canyon, To Zanarkand or Aeris'(Aerith..w/e) theme and instantly remember where you were in the game when you first heard it and what was happening.

Final Fantasy Tactics is by far my favorite, but I like a number of the numbered ones too. I've actually played the MMO, Final Fantasy XI quite a bit too. My favorite "normal" numbered game is probably VIII.

Since were talking about Final Fantasy, could someone confirm that there WAS a crashed F-14 fighter jet in Bone Village in FFVII? That really bothered me when i was a lot younger :D

For me best game ever was Duke Nukem 3D for its level of interaction and open level designs, then FF8 again big world, freedom, detail, now it is Morrowind. I need a big world full of details with day-night cycles, lot's of interaction, less linearism. (Check my sig)

And I love Rinoa.(It is interesting, I hated her at first. :))

Spoiler
There is a crashed airplane but I don't know if it was an F-14....

Any case I just got done with the SeeD exam in FFVIII but I'm thinking of going back and drawing out all of the protect magic spells from X-ATM092 (the giant spider thing that chases you during the SeeD test)

On second thought I'm not gonna bother....I'll get protect later anyway and it won't make a huge difference anyway (not like the double I got from Elvoret)

I would. But then again, the only thing I dislike about FFVIII is that it triggers my OCD tendencies like crazy. I absolutely must draw and stock at least 100 (or is the limit 99?) of every spell when I first see it. It's horrible. And then I'm too OCD to actually use any of the spells I've stocked up and ruin my perfect stack of 100 so I just have a team that's junctioned like crazy.

Spoiler
Be sure to draw and stock up on tons of Waters down by Balamb on the shore. It's a very powerful spell to junction to strength, especially in the early game. If you didn't already know that, that is.

Yeah, that's definitely an F-14. It's hard to tell with the wing ripped off like that but you can plainly see the vertical stabilizers are situated directly above the afterburners. There's also that odd piece of metal sticking out between the afterburners. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8340/bonevillageov5.png, http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircraft/AirShows/Nellis2004/Highlights/F14BankingAgainstMountains.jpg.

Technically I don't think you can draw them but rather refine them from items....but yes I got them

In any case I got the elemental attack junction for Shiva and used it on Ifrit and X-ATM092 (very useful)

And got the mid level magic refining skill so I already have cura, fira, blizzara, and thundara
