!!!I FOUND FF 7 FOR ONLY $45 BUT I'M TOO YOUNG FOR A PAYPAL ACCOUNT!!!!!!! :flame: :banghead: :swear:

Used or new? There's a used copy down the street from me at a play and trade store. Case and instruction booklet and all. Luckily, my brother and I saw the FF7 shortage coming, and bought three copies. That adds onto the copy I got for Christmas right after it came out. It wasn't greatest hits or anything just the original with the white CD's.
Damn... I have four copies of FF7 just sitting here at my house... Just wanted to rub it in people's faces.

Been playing FFV quite a bit. Fairly major spoilers follow - if you've gotten to the Earth Crystal, read ahead
Spoiler
So all the crystals in the First World is now destroyed. Gotta go to Galuf's world, and save their crystals. I loved Galuf's world, with people like Zexat and Gilgamesh. Been training jobs, but it's very difficult to do so, now that I have all but the Mime Job (When's the earliest I can get it?) so I have a long journey ahead of me.

I actually really like that card game. At first, I hated it, because I didn't really understand it and hadn't taken the time to do so. Later though, I got the hang of it and would go around looking for anybody to challenge. I started getting annoyed at how easy most of the players are. :P

If you have a PS3 or a PSP you can download it from Playstation Store for only $9.99 but you're going to need a 2GB or over Memory Stick DUO if you plan to put it on the PSP. I think you can download it from the computer to PSP in case you don't own a PS3, I have it on both the PS3 and PSP.

Played in this order: 4, 5, 6, 8, T, 7, 1, T (the PSP version) 9
Completed: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9

My favourites are: 9 > 8 > 5 > 6

Tried 7 twice, just can't get the hang of it, don't like the system, and I find the characters over-rated.

Favorites ones are IX and X. I even really enjoyed X-2. All the pop themes aside, that game had an amazing combat system and a ton of things to do. XII may yet become one of the ones I like, but that's to be decided later. I still hate having to handicap myself in order to find enjoyment in a game, but the License Grid really is the most game breaking thing I've ever seen in an RPG.

Everyone knows I hate VIII, too. That's funny, because VIII used to be one of my all-time favorite games during my childhood. But as soon as I played IX, I started seeing all of the things VIII did wrong. If anything, VIII remains nostalgic, and I would even play it again just for the sake of going back.

As far as VII is concerned, I really enjoyed it, even when I first played it just a few years ago. My only problem with that game was that the plot made absolutely no sense. And yes, it made even less sense than VIII's story. I got genuinely lost by the end of Disc 2, and I understood Chrono Cross for pete's sake.

VI was pretty good. The only thing I hated about that was Kefka, and only because of his lines. Some people compare him to the Joker, but I compare him to a deranged idiot. In all honesty, I would have preferred Ultros as the game's main villain. At least he was actually funny. Don't ever attempt a humorous villain again, Square.

XIII does interest me, but I'm starting to hate Square Enix more and more as they release games, so it would be a stretch if I end up liking their newest release. I do plan on getting a PS3, though, so it may be in my future. And yes, I know there's a 360 port, but I refuse to buy a console (again) with such a short lifespan.

I restarted my FFIX game

I had gotten to Burmecia but then I hadn't played in a while. I had started up FFVIII then I started playing FO3 again but now I'm back to FFIX

I think I'll stick with it for a while

the game holds a lot of memories for me and was the first Final Fantasy game I had played

There has been no rest for Motomu Toriyama lately with all the interviews he's been doing for various magazines and webzines along with the rising buzz for his latest game, FF XIII, which he directed.

Well, he is the first major official Square Enix persona to respond to some bad western reviews the game got. According to a recent interview he had done with Xbox World 360, the reason for the low scores is that "We think many reviewers are looking at Final Fantasy XIII from a western point of view," adding that "When you look at most Western RPGs, they just dump you in a big open world, and let you do whatever you like..." and as a result it "becomes very difficult to tell a compelling story when you're given that much freedom".

Basically, he cites extreme linearity coupled with what WRPG-spoilt reviewers (just look at this gen's WRPG's) expect from the game as the reason for some shabby reviews the game got. Many cited linearity as the reason why they dislike the game, so the statement has fact backing it up. An example for a "bad" score is from PSM3's review where it got a 70/100, a score seen as bad and low for a title of such caliber and expectations.

Looking aside from the content of his statement, it's pretty surprising that the fact that the game was getting bad reviews actually provoked him into a response, though - hardly anybody does that, and it just goes on to show how powerful reviews have become these days!

I'd like to see some of these bad reviews, nearly all of the ones that I've seen have been very good, and even the ones that weren't weren't bad.

Well, I haven't seen any of these reviews, but he's got a point.

Just because a game is linear doesn't make it bad, just as being open-ended doesn't make it good.

Eh. I don't trust most reviews in general, don't trust reviewers to look past common sense comparisons (does the game suffer for linearity, or do *I* just dislike linearity?), and don't trust readers to understand reviews (such as people who think 7/10 is "terrible").

Erm...in claiming people in the West judge games from the East from a Western perspective, he just judged games in the West from an Eastern perspective....sounds a bit hypocritical to me, but maybe im getting the wrong message.

Also, when did freedom have a bearing on storytelling? Plenty of Western open-ended RPG's have perfectly good plots. Linearity just tends to constrict immersion in my experience.

The "grade-by-hype-and-previous-success-of-developers"-syndrome is big enough in the industry without these sorts of comments >.<

Just because a game has had a lot of development time, cost, hype, and the developers are known to make great games, a game pretty much gains auto-high score. If a game wasn't good, it should get a bad score, no matter how much money got pumped into it, or the amount of hype.

Most of those bad "reviews" were often from...misinformed Japanophiles...who misunderstood what were essentially some casual conversations between Japanese players on their message boards, about a particular section of the game.

Here's a couple of [mostly] spoiler-free reviews in English by someone who's apparently played the whole thing in Japanese:

★ http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2010/02/04/final-fantasy-xiii-linear/

and this is a gameplay video which I think shows a bit of those linear parts: http://zoome.jp/violet/diary/184 - Watch and become wet.

Apparently a long overdrawn siege or something. Makes sense it should be "linear."

That's really ridiculous. Japanese gamers have been complaining about FFXIII right since it was released, and he says it's about a too Western point of view when previous titles of the series were judged from the very same position and were rated good? I call cow manure. ^_^

Which is exactly what that may be unless you can link to an actual transcript in Japanese decrying the game.

yeah, go on. <_<

Gotta love all these pretend-opinions based on hearsay before you've even actually tried the product, before it's been released in your own language. In any case, just watch one of the gameplay videos on zoome.jp, and decide for yourself.

I was under the impression that developers should make a game that's fun to play, rather than compromise the game itself in favor of telling a story. The way FF is heading it's going to become little more than glorified "choose your own adventure" books.

I hear the game has sold terribly in Japan, the price has dropped like a rock and many have returned their copies to the retailers.
