The start bit is fun. I can't remember how I beat the

spider that chases you, but I think it's optional. Man, you're making me want to go and play it now... Pfft, I might as well, FFIV is pretty much done now, except for inane grinding.

Spoiler
Technically I don't think you can draw them but rather refine them from items....but yes I got them

In any case I got the elemental attack junction for Shiva and used it on Ifrit and X-ATM092 (very useful)

And got the mid level magic refining skill so I already have cura, fira, blizzara, and thundara

Yeah, sorry. I meant
Spoiler
refine them out of the fish scales.

Yeah, that'll help a lot. The game's a cake walk if you know how to junction well. In fact, that's about it's biggest flaw in my opinion - being too easy.

Just like FF1. Once the bridge is repaired and you make it to the next town, you can train on that 2x2 penninsula to the east. I leveled up so fast there once I learned about it. The rest of the game was kinda too easy. Once your white Mage leans Dia2 and someone learns Fir2 at the very least, you'll have no trouble powering through those things. I always hated running into those stupid packs of(were?)wolves there though

Canceled my FFXIII order due to it being like FFX

It's like FFX?

...I'll be in my bunk. Don't intrude.

Well in FFVIII I got Diablos
Spoiler

I had to turn the battle speed to half and Wait on the ATB to beat him

I didn't even draw Demi

I tend to turn up the battle speed and make the ATB active just to make things go faster

It also makes bosses a [censored] to fight

I feel like it's cheating though

Edit: In FFIX I just got out of gizamaluke's grotto to go to Burmecia

Spoiler
After that and after I get the coral rings I'll power train on the grand dragons till I get to a good level

http://kotaku.com/5028961/of-course-final-fantasy-xiii-is-pc-bound-%5Bupdated%5D

So to recap, it's being created with PC-based dev tools, but with plans only for PS3/Xbox 360 console release.

No love for FFIX? :( That subtitle was a quote from the end of FFIX, if I remember correctly. My favourite FF is both FFIX and FFIV, with FFV and FFVI right behind. Sure, FFVII is really good too, but I played the rest mentioned here before FFVII, so I never had that much love for it.

FFX kinda annoyed me. The only characters I liked were both Jecht and Auron. Everyone else, bleh...

Spoiler
Porom and Palom were cured by the elder, but how did he do that? Did he journey to Treno to get the Super-soft? Last time I played it, when Tellah cast Eunsa, it didn't work because the twins cast Stone of their own free will.

Am I the only one who thought "Meteo" sounded much better than Meteor? Translation error in FFIV apparently.

FFIX is my second fav. After IV. Besides those first two being switched, I agree with you on their order. Did you manage to kill Ozma?(I did) Killed Hades too. Steiner/Freya/Amarant/Zidane work well together. Each able to do 9999 with their best skills.(Though it was Amarant's return magic that killed Ozma)

Spoiler
Speaking of the Elder. He seems to have some sort of crazy prayer ability that fixes everything and makes giant moon ships rise out of the ocean. Two stoned kids should be no problem.

Also yeah, I prefered Meteo(I also found the SFX spell in IX "Medeo" hilarious in that it did nothing.) Playing through FFIV again on the DS, second run now. Managed to snag a pink and green tail before I finished the first run(Got adamant armor and onion helm) Plan to go after Proto-Babil eventually.(And Geddyon too of course)

So, after reading an article in Game Informer about FF13, I'm pretty excited about it. The combat system sounds really interesting and much more action packed than previous ones (I didn't play FF12, btw). Also, it's really silly that your summons can turn into "mounts", but I think it'll fit into the "token black guy with an afro with a chocobo in it" hilarity.

I'm gonna watch some gameplay footage after work. Anybody have any good links to some?

And I'm still really, really excited for FF14. After wasting (I mean that in the best way possible) countless hours on FF11, I can only imagine how much of my life an improved version of that will consume.

There is some gameplay footage of battles on the official site listed in the OP though it is kinda sparse (the videos focus more on the characters and the story line but there is quite a bit of battle footage in one of the videos IIRC)

I myself am starting to have some mixed feelings about FFXIII but it still looks like it'll be good

-------------------------

Last night I spent about oh....an hour or so on FFVIII killing
Spoiler
president Deling (or his body double anyway)

I had to, absolutely had to, draw out zombie and berserk

Plus for two of the characters I had to draw out doubles and esuna sets because I wanted all my characters to have those two spells (I gave the ones Squall and Selphie had to Rinoa and Quistis so I could get more)

It was an awful hour spent curing berserk and silence (Selphie had 100% guard against silence but Zell and Squall were completely vulnerable)

But I finally got all the magic I wanted and now I'm going to Galbadia Garden to get Irvine

And now I have a whole host of new monsters to get more spells *sigh*

Oh, I know that feeling. Just when you've drawn out every spell available and are all set, you go to the next area in the game and have to start drawing and stocking all the new spells..

Anybody been following the new FF MMORPG in developement? Its rumoured for release later this year and looks simply astonishing. It breaks most traditions of the standard MMORPG system aswell, and it being developed by a team made up of the origional devs of FFXI and the devs of FFXII. PS3 and PC confirmed, 360 rumoured (possibly confirmed, I just havent seen yet).

Take it easy, man. Most spells are worthless and/or can just be refined via GF abilities.

Yeah, I'm signed up for the beta. Really hoping I get in. I was blown away from the theatrical trailer. Also, the leveling up system and traits (I think that's what it is) system is a great way of doing it. Gonna go get refreshed on my information tonight thanks to this thread haha.

Yay. Managed to hit the max gil cap in FFIV in about 34 and a half hours of gameplay. All characters are above lv 70. Think that's enough for the final boss? :P

True but it makes the game easier later on

I try to give all my characters the same spells at the beginning but later on then I try to make character classes like white mages and black mages

The article is a little out of date (by a few months) and I couldn't find anything more recent so I'm assuming this is the most up to date info on it. If anyone else could find something that would be great

Square is setting out to put Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox 360, but is hitting snags with the Xbox Live policy, reports VG247. Producer Hiromichi Tanaka credited the discussions with Microsoft for delaying an official announcement of the game. "For FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet

Well considering they also had similar issues with the FFXI release I'm hoping that they will have a release for FFXIV as well

I haven't checked into FFXIV at all in terms of footage but it sounds like it'll be good

I was also never able to try out FFXI so hopefully this time around I'll be able to experience an MMO for once (and a seemingly good one at that)

That is as soon as I figure out how to use my Mac as a bridge rather than having to buy M$' doohickey

Mid 60's seems to be a good place to start, so you should be fine. I killed him without him using an offensive attack even once at around lvl 80.

Huh. I had a quick go today, at all above 80 except Rydia who's 78. He still owned me with Big Bang. Which version are we talking about?

YES YES OHGOD YES.

I don't actually have it, but I do have the PS version. How can the DS version possibly be any worse than the PS version?

But other than that, yes, it is a very good version of the game.

Ah I'm using the DS version right now.(Which I do recommend since you don't have it) It's a lot more strategic(Someone used to the US Final Fantasy 2 version would have a much tougher time of this one) You can get augments which grant abilities though. Rosa has dualcast(Cast two spells a turn) and omnicasting(Can use any spell as a multi target). What it came down to was, before the crystal, Rosa Shelled/Hasted everyone, I started Rydia's stardust rod spell(Using the rod as an item casts comet), used the crystal, had Kain use cry(lowers defense), Edge tossed the (spoon)knife, and then fuma shurikens afterwards. Rosa cast slow on the boss, then rehasted everyone(Black hole had nullified everything). Cecil and Kain attacked constantly. Rydia kept up the comets and he went down without ever getting big bang off. (Rose reshelled everyone at some point too)

It's pretty good. I do miss some aspects of the advance remake though(lunar dungeon and regettable party members), but the augments are a nice touch(Watching Kain use Porom's cry move in battle is amusing).

You will probably never use whyt so don't worry about him. He's a summon that takes rydia's spot in battle, but rydia is pretty much better than him anyways so its not worth it.

Huh. I need to get the DS and Advance remake now. The Lunar Ruins sounds fun. Whyt looks annoying as hell. At the moment, I'm on the Eurpoean PSX version of FFIV. Mainly because I've played it before, I know where to go.

And what? Before the crystal? In the PSX version,
Spoiler
FuSoYa and Golbez cast W.Meteo on him, killing his body. When his soul revives, they charge him with Golbez using the Crystal only for it to be ineffective. Darkness and all of that. Then there's the frankly stupid prayers being received bit, and you battle Zeromus.

And yes, the game isn't that strategic. I keep the X button pressed, and I always win every battle (Until the Lunar Core though, R.Dragons and Behemoths require some forward thinking, but not much.

I can think of a few other battles that were a pain in the ass. That chick with all the frogs in that underworld cave comes to mind. But you're right. Usually you're not so much worried about dying as you are that a battle will take forever and you'll have to dig into your potions afterward.
