Unofficial Guild Wars 2 Discussion Thread

Does that mean it is public beta?!

My rig should be able to run it, minimum specs are rather low

3 Legit ways to get into the BETA

1. Pre purchase it get access to all BWEs
2. Get invited to it from the Beta sign up awhile back
3. Use a Beta key that was given out during Pax for each person they were given 4 codes 1 for you 3 for friends.

BWE's will not have a NDA so anything and everything will be out there on the interwebs and youtube. But it is not a "open" beta.

I'll be there kind of, looking forward to it. Finally can decide on what my first character will be. I already have the name, a combination of two names from Guild Wars. I made quite a few friends in GW when I was playing it so I'm hoping they recognize me, the ones I don't talk to anymore that might come back at least.

Lengareth Porlest. Was gonna be a Norn Warrior but I gotta test and see...might not get to participate in some of the world events though.

I am not a big MMO'er but I did have some fond memories of Guild Wars. I am considering Guild Wars 2 but got sick of following it for years and no release date.

Also, there will be a console version apparently:
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/02/17/guild-wars-2-getting-a-console-version.aspx

I feel you with getting sick of the waiting. It was originally supposed to release in 2011. Now finally they have pre orders for June. My wife and I both have the CE versions on pre order now. You get your names put in for all Beta Weekends and get to play 3 days before it goes LIVE to the public. As I have stated to others they seem to have done away with the old stale MMO mechanics if people care to read the FAQ for it on wiki and the official site. My wife and I have been dying to play sonce alot of releases have been mediocre at best this past year............

THERE'S A CONSOLE VERSION...
This just made my day...
I think GI is full of it. They would have to completely rip down the graphics and size of the game entirely to put it on these gen consoles. The map alone is going to be much larger in scope then a game like Skyrim. This is whole country and not just one area / province / state. Plus major expansions planned like adding Elona (Nightfall) back into the game. Which itself is a another country size map. I would like to also ad to anyone who might mention Final Fantasy online was on PS. Well it was made for the consoles first and then ported to PC. GW2 is made for PC and I doubt the CPU memory for 360 or PS3 would handle it.

Since I can't get the page to load again, they released the info about the beta event on their blog.

https://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2

That's a link to their facebook, you can find the blog link there or by going to GW 2's website. I'd link to the blog directly but like I said, I can't get it to load cause thousands of people are trying to read it at once.

I'm about 20x more excited for next weekend than I was 1 hour ago though.

I'm looking forward to it. Haven't preordered since I don't have money to spare at the moment, so no beta weekends for me :( But as great as the game as looking I can't help feel that it isn't "Guild Wars". Oh well, I accepted that a long time ago and I can't wait to get some WvWvW going.

Is this true, Salidin? I haven't been able to find any infomation on Closed Beta players getting into the Open Beta weekends.

I'm pretty sure Anet has already said they're trying to design it so it'll work on older computers. To the point that they've been able to run the game on video cards that are nearly 8 years old.

The Great Destroyer didn't give me nearly the amount of trouble that the Disc of Chaos did.

It also saddens me that the dervish skill Eternal Aura has been nerfed into a completely different skill. Doesn't even do the same thing! Avatar Lyssa was also changed into something completely different! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I hate how they completely redid the Dervish skills. I had a perfect system, but all the buffs changed and I can no longer support them all.

Also as for closed beta players getting into the beta that is rare due to the Q&A

If I am accepted into and participate in one Beta Event, does this mean I will be admitted into all subsequent Beta Events?

No, admission into one Beta Event does not guarantee admission into subsequent Beta Events.

Weekend beta starts tomorrow, the wife and I are excited to see the new game. My 2 main concerns is having a better loot system then GW and having a real market to sell goods instead of wasting hours trying to sell items in cities, instead of playing. The one thing that always bugged me about GW was the loot svcked most of the time. It was usually worthless junk to sell off for 50 silver or picking a few copper off corpses mostly, then they wondered why so many players were buying money.

Isn't that just an inherent problem with MMO economies? The people that spend their game time grinding for money (farming, trading, running people, etc.) will always have a lot more than those that don't. Since value in an economy is relative the people that spend time going out and "farming" loot are constantly flooding the market and driving prices down. The people that just take their drops from regular questing and such aren't going to have the income that farmers do, but if they start making rare drops more common then the farmers will have a ton of them to sell, which will make them less valuable. I think one of GW's economy problems was that there aren't enough money sinks outside of rare armor designs and such.

Anyway, that's a tough problem to solve. I barely have the time to get into an MMO much less put that kind of time into the wealth metagame.

There was no need for money in GW though, as you could easily get max gear.

So I was excited for the beta weekend as I got some tax money back. Went to pre-order from GW2's site and they are "sold out"...

go to a gamestop and they have them to physically pre order. DONT use their site because they never send you the confirmation email and you end up getting canceled.

Not all MMos have crappy economies. My wife and I both made about 10 miliion on just looting from quests and exploring in a month on AION. Another NCsoft game. Same with Shaiya also. In GW I could go out for hours and do quests and barely make 2 gold if you were lucky. As for the other poster saying you didnt need money, yes you did. For the best armor in one place in Nightfall. You had to pay a good 100K to 200K plus resources you had to buy to make it, per armor piece and not total. Also cost money to infuse if you had ascended. Must of not played that much.

Ok, but the value of the money in an MMO (or anywhere) is related to how difficult it is to get, no? Doesn't that 10 million of easy-to-acquire cash was less valuable than the equivalent in GW money? My take on it was that since they had a low level cap and max-gear that was not hard to get they needed to give people some incentive to keep playing, thus the expensive "elite" items like obsidian armor and such.

No all Beta Weekend Events (not closed tests or unofficial beta's) in the future are not under NDA so film away, say your in, voice your concerns and recall your actions all you want with it on public forums.

AION is much tougher then GW, the fact is you are hunted and ganked by enemy players daily while trying to just quest. Good game, but became annoying after so long. Unlike GW and others, AION has really no PvP boundries or specific places for that only. I think all games have their flaws. But if you can not make a decent amount of cash in game to enjoy experimenting with weapons, armor, crafting, etc. Then the game becomes tedious and boring.

To get armor with the max AR in nightfall it was 1K per piece (+ mats) at the consulate docks. You must be thinking about the prestige armors. They offer no AR bonus, the only thing that changes is the looks.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armorer

Ranger for example http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ranger_Sunspear_armor vs the "end game" prestige armor http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ranger_Primeval_armor. They both have the same stats, so you don't need tons of money.

As for infusion as far as I know you don't have to pay. Just run the mission with the seer and bring him the Eidolon essence.

I am not talking about that cheap stuff. If you had gotten about 2/3 of the way into Nightfall, there are much higher and better armor sets to buy. The stuff in the docks was nothing more then a bit better then your good Prophecies armor. I solo'd with my Fire Elementalist almost all the way through Nightfall on my own.

In Guild Wars there is a max armor value you can get. The stuff at the consulate is maxed, the stuff you find later is maxed, just with different skins. Armor I get at the end of prophecies at Droknar's is the same as the max armor from Kaeining, which is the same as at Consulate Docks, Vabbi, or the Bone Palace.

Any of the very expensive armors that take Rubies/Sapphires/and 15K a piece have no better stats.

Armor has a cap at certain protection for each class (Elementalist is 60). You can get a basic set of max armor for (about) 5k plus materials. Prestige/Elite armor, like Primeval, Vabbian, and Ancient, was just there for aesthetics and too show you're a rich bastard.

For example, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_Elite_Luxon_armorarmor has the same protection as the regular http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_Luxon_armor, despite being the Elite version and costing 70k more.

And http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Vatundothe Consulate Docks armorer, who sells max armor.
