Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread, #2

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:19 am

Anyone having problems with the same quests completing multiple times in rapid fire?

I had this happen with the Restoration Mastery quest on my main character. I do the quest and the Augur says I'm worthy. I go in the other room to grab a drink without pausing the game . The whole time the Augur keeps saying his line eventually leading to a chorus of Augur dialogues like there are 3 or 4 of him there. The HUD also keeps displaying that I completed the quest. Once I get a certain distance from him the cacophany quits. I go back to Collette and she has 23 spell tomes to buy of the Master Spell.

On another character I decide to do the TG initiation quest. I do the dirty deed and go back to Brynjolf and go through all his dialogues. After listening to all his dialogue I exit out the conversation. One second later he initiates conversation again like I just got done with the act.

Posted this a fair bit now, but it's the only bug I'm currently encountering so I might as well try and get it more well known.

Upon curing yourself of lyncathropy, you will still not be eligible for 'Well Rested' bonus, NPC's will stay make werewolf specific dialog; "You have hair coming out of your ears", "your wolfish grin unnerves me." Additionally the 'Days as a werewolf' counter under your journal continues to increase.

Haven't checked the "days as a werewolf" part but the other stuff is true in my game as well (no well rested bonus, guards making the furry ears comment, etc).

Also, back to my origianl post. On doing the Battle for Windhelm quest, things aren't lagg;y or choppy now, but the game crashed and booted by back out to desktop. Don't know if that'ts a problem with the patch or with steam.

Also when I was doing the quest before, taking over whatever fort it was, my horse showed up as a red dot on my radar (ie was considered hostile), but only my follower Lydia attacked it (shot it with arrows and eventually killed it).

I'm still trying to resolve jittery stuttering, which feels like about 10 FPS, (although everything else is animated at the correct framerate). This is most noticeable in Thaumaturgist's Hut (alchemy store), in Morthal. Anyone with a similar issue please correspond so we might see if there's anything we have in common. Because it seems not everyone has the issue.

This is driving me flipping insane. I have tried just about everything in the world.

I have spent the majority of 2 days trying to resolve this by any means necessary, not including the several days of beta testing I did where I tried to get help with the issue and reported the problem.

There are several things of note here:
  • Earlier versions of Skyrim.exe (like TESV 1.3) also have jittering in the same areas of certain interiors, but not nearly this bad. I'm really irritated that it is much worse, rather than fixed.
  • The issue is present in completely vanilla Skryim, untouched ini files, and verified Steam files
  • My computer easily maintains 60FPS. The problem manifests regardless, when memory and GPU resources are barely used.
  • Playing the game in Windowed mode resolves the issue, however it introduces unacceptable levels of screen tearing.
  • Removing V-sync and using a framelimiter resolves the jittery issue, however it introduces unacceptable levels of screen tearing.
  • Something in these interiors is synced to something other than 60Hz? Perhaps it is the light?
  • Deleting every object in the interior besides a few objects for reference do not resolve the issue. (I don't see a way to delete the actual light, so again, the finger points at this).
  • Looking at certain parts of the interior seem worse than others.
  • Turning off all NPC AI does not resolve the issue
  • Reducing every graphics option to low and disabling every graphic enhancement feature does not resolve the issue.
  • Waiting 40 in game days did not make any difference.
  • Using a new character did not make any difference.
On average, 1 out of 20 times I go in Thaumaturgist's Hut, the issue is not present! I have verified this 3 times.

Here are some of the places I have noted the issue:

Places with the issue seem to share assets (stairs, fireplace, etc.) with other places with the issue, meaning it is something in the assets causing it.
  • Thaumaturgist's Hut (alchemy store), in Morthal -- Everywhere (shares assets with below "Stairs Upstairs, Counter, Fireplace")
  • In Windhelm, at the Temple of Talos -- Standing in front of the Shrine, standing in front of the bed. (REALLY BAD here too), My FPS says 60FPS.
  • College of Winterhold, Hall of Attainment -- Inside, facing the door to Skyrim (issue is not present in Hall of Countenance; perhaps this will help you troubleshoot, by seeing what's different between them)
  • Helgen Keep, the spiral staircase, the fireplace,
  • Dawnstar Barracks -- Stairs and Upstairs
  • The Mortar and Pestle -- Stairs and Upstairs
  • Birna's Oddments -- Stairs and Upstairs, facing the counter.
  • The White Hall - up close to the throne, and upstairs
  • Winterhold -- Jarl's Longhouse - up close to the throne, and upstairs
  • Kraldar's House -- Fireplace
  • Breezehome -- Everywhere, particularly bad at the Cooking Pit, Dinner Table, Front Door, all upstairs cupboards/nightstands
  • The Drunken Huntsman -- Everywhere.
  • All Whiterun stores have it, somewhat, for example looking at the Door in Warmaidens
The game is unplayable for me, unless I use a different EXE, and then, performance is not optimized. Please take a look at this Beth. Hopefully, you can fix it like you did the mouselook synced to framerate, in another patch.

As i've stated in another thread. Whenever i look up into the sky i get black textures and it does the swimming animations when moving and it moves my character up into the air. I've tried everything, i also get the physics problem which causes objects to fly around a room when entering. I've tried using v-sync it solves my physics problem and i don't get above 60 fps but i get very slow mouse input. I've also tried a fps limiter but get very bad screen tearing. I'm at my wits end here, all i seem to get now when playing skyrim is bug after bug. Also this is an example of what i get, it flickers black textures and when it happens and i look up towards the sky it causes a water sound and the swimming animation to occur and my character swims upwards in the sky.

http://i.imgur.com/a7MKf.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zA8Xh.jpg

This doesn't happen in any other game. It also flickers on and off, it doesn't happen for more than 1 second.

Thanks.

My Courier Letters and Treasure Notes no longer list the locations. Instead, they cut off exactly where the locations should be stated:

Courier Letters read "To our respected investor, it seems our expedition to" and Treasure Notes read "I have almost found the " respectively. (The first should list a location, the second an enchanted object).

Maddening, but I'm more concerned that it'll cause more bugs since the map doesn't update either.

I reverted back to 1.3.10 just to make sure my save wasn't corrupted (and disabled all my mods, of course), and it wasn't the save. This only occurred on 1.4.

Funnily enough, the miscellaneous quest journal still has all the records (i.e. Explore Blizzards Rest and find the Axe of Respite). It's just all my collected Treasure Notes and stuff in my inventory that doesn't.

I've tried spawning new treasure notes and courier letters, and they all have the same problem. I only noticed it because I pickpocketed a Courier Letter from a passing courier and discovered it was almost entirely blank (so getting one ones in the "official" way is also broken; my map didn't update).

EDIT: CCNA, you said in the first thread that your Lydia had some problems, likely due to scripting. I'm thinking my error's likely scripting related too.

I'm noticed some other problems. After completing the Battle for Windhelm quest and traveling back to Whiterun, I now get Hadvar (the Imperial guy you met in Helgen and took you to Riverwood) coming through the front gate with sword drawn, runs up to me and talks like he's still in the battle. Keeps happening whenever I go back to Whiterun. Can't initiate conversation with him, he just makes more comments regarding Stormcloaks, etc.
Also, a minor one, grindstones now always have the sound of someone grinding something even if there's no one working on them.

Hey guys ever since the new patch I cant start a new game. After I design my characters and shes brought to the chopping block the dragon just flies around and refuses to land, so the event never progresses. I tried doing it a few times but no dice.

I'm not loading up my save game since I only have the main quest left and the Cornered Rat quest doesn't work for me either, it never worked not even with the latest patch.

/edit

I've never used any mods or tweaked any .ini settings.

I fixed my jittering microstuttering

I used Nvidia Inspector: select the Skyrim profile and set framelimit to 60; keep Vsync enabled in Skyrim ini.

No screentearing, no jitters! Smooth as glass.

No idea why Skyrim's V-Sync doesn't work on it's own, considering it's 60FPS. They should fix this. It would have saved me 5 days of troubleshooting and frustration.

Now I can play the game again.

I decided that maybe I should download the latest AMD Radeon graphics drivers (I run a HD Radeon 6970 1 gb card) and maybe it would help with the graphics problems. After installing them, had a problem with the screen going black when I tried to load a saved game (could still hear the sound, the Dragonborn song). Had to Ctl Alt Delete to get out of it. When I was able to reload the game I experienced the game freezing and crashing when using spells. After relaoding and playing for awhile, hasn't happened again (yet).
BTW, I just use the game (with any updates), no mods of any kind.

In addition to the things I mentioned in the previous version of this thread (infinite loading screens, game freezing), I'm now also getting an increased amount of random CTDs without error message (ie like before the 4gb patch). I tried deleting my ini files and letting the game remake them but that didn't help, and I've validated my files with Steam...

Yeah i'm getting similar bugs. I had little issues with the 1.3.10 patch(?) only the occasional crash which i could live with. With this patch however i am getting the bugs that i thought gone
eg. CTD's often following disappearing textures (buildings etc losing walls/floor textures, enemies with the purple rubber texture on their equipment that hadn't been an issue in 1.3.10).

I just noticed yesterday that the shadows in Windhelm are worse that ever, even worse than in Breezehome... I was so disgusted that I didn't even bother taking screencaps, sorry.

Hey guys anyone having problems with the quest ( A Cornered Rat ) that is located in ( The Ratway Warrens ) ?

Apparently when you talk to NPC "Esbern" dose't have voice audio, and the door doesn't open after fishing the conversation.

I don't know if someone can help me on this one either a member or a moderator.

Thanks

Is anyone else having dialog skips when NPC's speak to you. It does not happen all the time and it is always in the middle of their sentence when it happens. When it does happen they usually only will skip for a fraction of a second and miss maybe one word at most.

I have been looking to see if anyone else posted something on this but if they did, I missed it. 1.4 has been playing great for me and has allowed me to continue with my 70's level character that I had previously abandoned due to the save file size CTD's. This periodic dialog skip seems to be the only issue I have experienced so far. Anyone else getting this?

EDIT: Carried over from single post.

I found a game breaker with the newest update. I went to the Throat of the World, read the Elder Scroll and started to watch the video. Evertyhing worked ok till the heroes ended their discussion saying "Alduin approaches". After that nothing happens - the Nord heroes just stand there and half a dozen dragons keep flying circles above and making noice. Reloaded the game a couple of times but still the same result.

EDIT: Managed to get it working. Loading without SKSE worked ok, so it seems to be a SKSE problem.

EDIT2: Managed to pinpoint the problem. It was the old version of SkyUI that somehow caused this. Updated to the latest version and now it's ok.

yes, i have.

the one i'm getting seems to be an audio hiccup like you described, repeatable with any sound effects or footsteps while any npc is talking.

you can test this by standing still -> starting convo with someone who doesn't bring up dialogue -> walking around. the first footstep will interrupt them.

I have had the audi hiccup and sometimes now the game lags usually when im turning even though my rig is more than enough to run everything in ultra which is what it auto detects to. Don't remember this problem before the patch also sometimes the ai seems even less intelligent now .

I also killed some thallmor escorting a prisoner with no witnesses but the guy I freed and ended up with a bounty back in whiterun gave the guards the 40 gold and they as far as I can tell didnt even take the armor or weapons i looted but how they knew makes no sense. Started to notice graphics glitches on whiteruns walls now too like those u can see in the mountains outside of it

6970 lightning, 12 gigs of ram waiting on 1 stick to be shipped back its corsair 1300 speed, windows 7 basic 64 bit, board is a crosshair iv formula but im useing one card,
onboard sound and a headset. 24 inch widescreen oh yeah and an 1100t processor

I've notice several NPCs don't have their weapons/torches or w/e visibly in hand. (the attacks still feel and sound appropriately)
Can't say for sure that this is patch related, but I've played this game since launch and haven't seen this before, and now I've seen it 3 times in 1 day.

I'm having a problem with the Purity quest after updating to 1.4. I completed killing Vilkas's wolf spirit and it asks you to talk to Vilkas, but there is only the dialogue option for "can you train me to use two handed weapons better" and he does'nt say anything relating to the quest. I am now stuck with him as a follower and i wont be able to go any further with the companions quests until this is fixed ;(

I've had something of the kind too. In Candlehearth in Windhelm, the writer, I don't remember his name, was holding in his right hand both a tankard and a quill and he was writing on an invisible piece of paper on the table. Seen quite a lot of npcs holding invisible tankards too.

I've got a half dozen screenshots of people holding invisible things, or having a tankard and broom, or bread and tankard in the same hand. If it will help to identify a problem I'll gladly find them. I just figure it's an oversight in the main scripts.

The underkeep door guard in Markarth always holds an invisible torch at night, as long as I have played the game, I think. What about the guy out in the woods, training with a magic staff - it's invisible. So there are similar bugs in individual people as well.

Viarmo, from the Bard's College says "You know, you and I are the only people here, that aren't complete idiots." -- he says, with torch in hand, sitting down in the tavern. OH, god, I lol'd

Reference my previous post, # 18.

I just had the same happen again - was given a bounty, but it was not removed.

I was just a few feet south of the Forsaken Cave when I was attacked by a bear. My conjuration mage didn't have a follower out, so I used destruction's Ice Storm to kill the bear. I didn't realize that for some reason, a nearby farmer decided to kill the bear, and he was caught in the blast of the ice storm which turned him an enemy towards me. The second blast of the ice storm killed the bear and the farmer.

In short order, I saw a warning on the screen giving me a 40 gold bounty, then as the farmer died, it said the bounty was removed since the last witness died.

I immediately hit ESC to bring up the Crime Screen, and the 40 gold bounty is still there. This character, like the other two, did not have a bounty against her.

One thing I've noticed:

Various miscellaneous quests have reset for me after 1.4 patch, such as the Kolskeggr mine one. Enemies respawned at the mine, and the two friendly NPC's are back to sitting around Left Hand Mine outside Markarth as if nothing happened.

I'm not running any mods, verified my game cache...don't know what's going on here.
